Romney Attacks Clinton in New Ad

November 02, 2007 11:21 AM

ABC News' Kate Snow and Matt Stuart Report: Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney has a new ad in New Hampshire attacking Democratic rival Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., suggesting she doesn't have the experience to be President.

"She has never run anything," Romney says of Sen. Clinton in the ad titled "Experience Matters." "And the idea that she could learn to be President as an internship just doesn't make any sense."

"I've spent my life running things," Romney says in the ad, arguing that his own experiences in business and the Olympics are relevant to his White House run. "I've learned how to run a business."

Clinton spokesman Howard Wolfson responded, calling Romney an "experienced flip-flopper" and saying that Clinton is a "two-term senator who has represented the United States in 82 countries around the world."

The ad, which draws largely on Romney's stump speech, begins airing Friday in New Hampshire.

So, if we are to read between the lines, if Romney becomes president (God forbid) he will run the U.S. government like a private "business"? Does that mean we would have another Repub in the WH saying to hell with the American people, its my decision and what I want that counts. Oh no, my man, oh no. We have had enough of that going on 8 years now. We need someone in there who understands how a government operates and how a country is governed, not your private business experience, Mr. Romney. We need a diplomat, not another braggard. We need someone in the WH for the people as our govenment was before GWB stole office. I definitely do not like this man's mind set. Too Bushy for me.

Great add by Romney! His competence, experience, management skills, ethical standards, innovation, and leadership are what America needs right now. He is a turnaround artist with exceptional capability. He has been successful at every thing he has been involved in. He is not a lifelong politician and he is a Washington outsider. The skills and experience he has would be a valuable asset to America at a time like this.

I think its telling that every time any campaign responds to Romney all they can do it try to make it look like He is a flip flopper. Romney may have flipped on Abortion but he never flopped back. He has never flipped or flopped on anything else. If this is the only way that other camps have to attack Romney or to defend themselves they are not going to get vary far.

Romney is an "experienced flip-flopper" that is the funniest and most truthful thing I have heard in awhile. Bashing Hil will not doubt boost his numbers in Republican pol's but in the end he'll be back in his gay marriage, abortion on demand, ultra-liberal position in MA. Best of luck when he has to return to his "liberal" republican ideology to re-run for governor!!!! Mitt you Rock!!!!

Great comment Clark! The only thing people can criticize Mitt for is "flip flopping." He may have flipped towards being more anti-abortion than he used to be, but he has NEVER flopped back. If these are the only criticisms of Mitt that can be made then I think Mitt stands a good chance of becoming the Republican nominee for President.

A true business man has a mindset that assures proper communication and can gain consensus between all involved parties and business functions. Bush is NOT that kind of business man. Bush has failed to win consensus with the American people and their elected representatives; something he claimed he could do when running for office. Another point about Bush is that he relied on a select few for guidance when making decisions. To put Romney in the same category as Bush is misleading and incorrect. As for Hillary, she has been good at passing the buck and has yet to be original.

What concerns me are the real issues. OUTSOURCING of jobs along with our sensitive information, ILLEGAL immagration draining our resources and making demands on our government instead of their own government back home. Our Republican White House not listening to our Intelligence warning about the Iranian informant information on Iraq WMD not to be trusted in the first place and now we are stuck tied up in Iraq with Iran being the country that has the REAL DESTRUCTIVE WMD. These are real issues, and I want to know which candidates are against giving DRIVERS LICENSES to Illegals. I want to know which candidates are willing to take the information from our INTELLIGENCE seriously and over anything a foreign government informant says. Especially from an Informant who is from a government that declared they wanted death to our country. We NEED to stop being iffy and whishy-washy about what to do. Pull up your sleeves, and do for the U.S.A. by bringing jobs back home along with our sensitive information that went overseas with our HIGH TECH JOBS in the Out Sourcing scheeme of this republican administration. Give the construction jobs back to our U.S.A. citizens. Put the money into rebuilding our INDUSTRY and stop making U.S.A. products overseas where there is no control. Stop using the excuse that American workers cost more when raise the cost of the products according to what is happening overseas anyway. Stop being controlled by other nations and take a stance on making our country independently strong again. Yes we can be this, but we have to be this together, all U.S.A. citizens irregardless of Race, Color or Creed. That is why people came to this country in the first place in the past. WAKE UP U.S.A. CITIZENS before it is too late!

For hillary to call Romney the experienced flip-flopper is too funny. Romney is right on when it comes to hillary, she would be the worst thing to ever happen to our country. Socialism vs. free market

All the Republican and Democratic candidates running have strengths and weaknesses, that is a given. In saying that, Romney makes a valid point about Hillary Clinton's experience, when you drill down, not much in-depth as a manager. Hillary Clinton's role as First Lady puts her on par with Nancy Reagan, Barbara Bush and Laura Bush in terms of White House experience but does not make her accomplished policy maker. Hillary Clinton's experience as a two term Senator gives her more credibility than as First Lady. Senator Clinton's has been an average Senator for New York, she has sponsored some good legislation but also sponsored some mediocre legislation as well. The economic conditions of her Upstate New York district has not faired so well under her tenure. The economic exodus of New Yorker to other parts of the country is still pretty strong and evident of poor economic development relative to the population.

Now for Mitt Romney, he does have proven experience as a manager but lacks experience Foreign Affairs and in the legislative branch of the Federal government, which would place him in the entry-level experience category in the Washington DC environment. Not having the Foreign Affairs experience and not having first hand knowledge of how the legislative branch operates are critical weakness and could be fatal for any presidency.

I am of the mind that you can tell a man/woman where they are going in the future by what they have achieved in the past. So experience and trust are the two important qualities to me; must have a record of both successes and failures (seasoned experience) and can I trust them to put politics aside and do the right thing regardless of special interests, public opinion and the media. So far I have not been impressed by the top tier candidates based on polls, because on the key issues of the day, I find their proposed policies mediocre in thinking and shallow along party politics. They are what I call Neisen Rating candidates. Now they have gone into a phase where they are attacking one another in order to obfuscate.

Romney is so good at running things he has to finance his own campaign.

LOL! Yeah, Mitt's sooooo ethical! Do you right wingers out there happen to remember a certain quote like this, altered to suit the changing times, by chance: "Actually, I voted for the right to an abortion before I voted against it." Youse guys were all kinds of up in arms over what a flip-flopper John Kerry was when he said, "Actually, I voted for the $87 billion before I voted against it," but it's safe to assume you lot will give Mitt a free pass on HIS flip-flopping, no? Par for the hypocritical course with America's Dittohead minority!

Roomney is Right!! Hillary has no experience or accomplishments (except discrediting Bill's women). If her last name wasn't Clinton she would never be heard from. Shame this is the best that the Democratics have to offer.

I think Romney has it all wrong. Hilliary Clinton was very instrumental in helping her husband run this country for 8 years. Therefore, she's the only "qualified" candidate currently running for U.S. president.

To say Hillary helped Bill run the Presidency is true. She helped him...disgrace the office...destroy family values...tear down our military...make a mockery of the White House by turning it into a condo for their wacko friends...deceiving the public trust, whore mongering etc.. You get the idea. The last thing this country is a sequel of the Clinton's destroying the fabric of this nation. I can't even believe the Democrats would consider her for any office. She needs to take her socialist agenda and get in office with Chavez.

Clinton is CORRUPT, & Romney MAY or MAY NOT be, but he has YET to ELABORATE on his so-called healthplan that's SUPPOSED TO take care of EVERYONE, AFFORDABLY...as for the North American Union, they're BOTH FOR IT! To sum up...THEY BOTH SU#K!!!

Being from Arkansas I can tell you that alot of Arkansan believe that Hillary was behind alot of the decisions that the incompetent and lying Bill made. Unfortunatly for us they were bad ones. While not impressed with Mitt I am however very impressed with Huckabee. He was a good governor and seems to be an honest man. Oh and the bonus is he has run a state unlike the other two mentioned.

Ole Mitt would certainly be a President who considers every side to every issue -- especially since he has held every one of those positions at one time or another. Obviously he has a real tough time with women who aren't subservient in the manner mandated by the Moron Church (misspelling intentional). Bottom line is that Romney is tracking at about 10% nationally and Clinton is over %50. She really doesn't need to respond to this political pipsqueak. You don't see a great dane looking concerned when confronted by a barking chihuaha.

The political history of this country will never change despite Hilliarys wildest dream. This is the only nation under Heaven that will never elect a woman. It is beyond this worlds imagination of the real reason.

Mitt Romney is correct!

Hillary Rotten-Clinton is simply not even qualified to be president.

Yet America's corrupt liberal MSM wolfpack press continues to prop her up along with her pals in our Do Nothing Democrat Congress

Really sad........

Only fools kept wanting Hilliary Clintons to be President.Every nation and countries around the world including development countries elect experience leaders with leadership skills and managerial expertise to lead their countries. They knew that putting someone that didn't run a thing only make matters worst for their economic growth and result in mass unemployment.I'm sure most Americans don't want to feel manipulated by her candidacy.

Romney has a history of being dismissive of women who are politicians. His dismissive behavior towards former MA Governer Jane Swift and his Lt. Governor and recent Gubernatorial candidate Kerry Healy and his attacks on Democrats Shannon O'Brien
and now Hillary Clinton were sexists and demeaning. The reason for attacking a specific Democrat party candidate when the final candidates for president have yet to be decided is unclear. The ad confirms for me that Mitt Romney's views on women have not made it past the 1950's.
