Ron Paul's Army Plots More Bombs

November 07, 2007 5:53 PM

ABC's Z. Byron Wolf Reports: Fresh from the success of their Gunpowder Plot themed fundraising bomb, Ron Paul supporters are doing some brainstorming.

Trolling around the Ron Paul online universe yields word of more bombs in the making. There are plenty of symbolic days and they can create fundraising bombs from here through the Iowa caucuses.

On the website http://thisnovember11th.com/ is a pitch to "patriots" to give Paul $100 on Monday, Veterans day. Paul and Illinois Democrat Sen. Barack Obama, who from a policy standpoint are alike only in their opposition to the Iraq war, lead their counterparts in contributions from people who identify themselves in fundraising documents as members of the media, according to a study conducted last quarter by the Center for Responsive Politics.

The goal is for 10,000 "patriots" to give to Paul and raise another million dollars. Of course, there would be no way to determine immediately if the people giving money were veterans or not. Although fundraising documents for Paul make for interesting reading.

It does not specifically ask for donations from the military, but the CRP study is mentioned on the site. From the people who brought you http://thisnovember5th.com, comes http://teaparty07. The plan is to bundle up the anniversary of the Boston Tea Party on December 16th and Constitution Day on December 15h for a double whammy online fundraising weekend.

Constitution Day is symbolic because Ron Paul fashions himself as a principled anti-big-government Constitutionalist. Building on that theme, the Boston Tea Party works because as the colonists threw their tea in Boston Harbor to protest the taxes on it, Paul supporters would be throwing their money, which they say is devalued by inflation, which is caused by the government printing more money. And on from there.

Just goes to show that Paul will definitely have the cash to mount a serious campaign, and should be taken seriously.

I expect him to beat all other Republicans in fund raising this quater

"[Paul and Obama] lead their counterparts in contributions from people who identify themselves in fundraising documents as members of the media, according to a study conducted last quarter by the Center for Responsive Politics."

That should read be members of the *military*, NOT the media -- I'm pretty sure Hillary has that constituency locked up.

Great article! This is turning into my favorite mainstream media blog.

Instead of sending out those awful HS "Ierror Alerts" we should issue RP "Freedom Alerts" when we send our contributions in! I am so glad to know that I am not being called "crabgrass" and worse by the media any longer! Thanks for the nice article!

Thanks for this informative article, on a true, 'Man of his word', statesman, running for President.

With all the news streams and articles about Julie Anna, Billary, and Osama, this article is like a 'Breath of Fresh Air'.

I was getting the feeling, that all media is voicing government propoganda! Odd.

I will be very surprised if Ron Paul is 'not' elected.

Don't forget Ron Paul Christmas which isn't as much a bomb as a firehose to bring in a steady stream of donations and reach $20 million.

The real story here is that the grassroots have seized control of fundraising and are surpassing everyone's predictions.

Wow, this actually resembles real journalism. You went out, had a look around, and reported on what you noticed. Amazing!!! o.O

Don't think we didn't notice the thinly veiled mockery: putting "patriots" in quotation marks, referencing an article that makes fun of his donors, and the suggestion in the last paragraph that the causes and effects of inflation are just our opinion.

Nevertheless, good job. The circus clowns at the helm of the media just might not be total buffoons. They might, just might, notice the front runner this year.

Thank you very much to ABC for the balanced blog and reporting on forth coming events. This network is going to develope one hell of a following if it continues to be balanced with the good Dr's campaign news.

thank you for not treating paul and his supporters as lunatics.

i am a democrat who will vote for kucinich, edwards or dodd, but will NEVER vote for hillary or obama (one is a neocon and the other a game show host- enough about jesus!)

if hillary or obama win the democratic nomination i will totally support paul.

in the meantime, i am contributing liberally to paul. it makes the wingnuts crazy and that is reason enough!

Sorry to be a fact checker but Constitution day is September 17, December 15 is Bill of Rights Day. Other than that it is a great article.

Wow and actual article that isn't slanted or spun. ABC and CNN are waking up. Fox is still in denial trying to cover themselves. They will pay when the revelution is over.

I'll gladly contribute to the Boston Tea Party!!

Those who realize that Hemp could save the planet and stop our dependence on foreing oil are also donating Dec 5,

The day prohibition was repealed!

Better find a dictionary in that basement before you fire up that doob!
RuPaul's "revelution" is over.
The credit card scam has been discovered...better scurry back to the basement to celebrate the Hemp that could save the planet and stop our dependence on "foreing" oil...LOLs.

Thanks Mr. Wolf for good coverage of an important story. Thousands of American citizens, fed up with what has happened to their republic, are going back to the history books for political inspiration. I think only Ron Paul supporters could have come up with that. The other campaigns could, I suppose, draw motivation from fond memories of past $2000/plate fundraising dinners.

Wake up & smell the coffee! Ron Paul has as much chance being elected president as you do. He can raise a million$$ a day until next Nov 4 & he will still be at 1%. Keep emptying your meager savings into his campaign coffers, though, at least it'll keep it out of a real GOP contender's hands! HAHAHAHAHA

The best thing this country could do this election cycle is have a choice between Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich. If it isn't those two, we are looking at such a small degree of difference we won't ever talk about where we really want the country to go.

fruitcake detector,

How could ANYONE "raise a million$$ a day," and not have the support to win the election?
