Bush 41: Thanks But No Thanks
December 18, 2007 6:32 PM
ABC News' Kate Snow Reports: President George H.W. Bush has no plans to join his buddy Bill on some kind of global road trip -- if that's indeed what President Clinton was trying to suggest.
Campaigning on Monday in South Carolina, Clinton went a little further with a line he often uses while stumping for his wife.
Instead of simply suggesting that Senator Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., would try to restore America's image around the world -- a standard refrain from both Bill and Hillary -- this time Bill named names.
According to CNN, Clinton said the following in response to a question from a supporter about what his wife's "number one priority" would be as president: "Well, the first thing she intends to do -- because you can do this without passing a bill -- the first thing she intends to do is to send me and former President Bush and a number of other people around the world to tell them that America is open for business and cooperation again."
In a written statement provided to ABC News, President Bush's chief of staff, Jean Becker said President George H.W. Bush "wholeheartedly supports the President of the United States, including his foreign policy." (That would be his son, Bush 43).
"He has never discussed an 'around-the-world mission' with either former President Bill Clinton or Senator Clinton, nor does he think such a mission is warranted since he is proud of the role America continues to play around the world as the beacon of hope for freedom and democracy," the statement continues.
"President Bush is excited about several of the excellent Republican candidates running for president, and looks forward to supporting their candidacy once the Republican nominee is determined."
A spokesman for the Clinton campaign downplayed Bill Clinton's comment as not much different from what has been said in the past.
"President Clinton was referencing what Senator Clinton has frequently said she would do as president: send prominent American of both parties around world to engage in goodwill diplomacy," the spokesman said.
Indeed, Senator Clinton hinted back in October that she might call on the services of the elder President Bush if she were in the White House.
Referring to the tsunami relief mission conducted by Presidents Clinton and Bush in southeast Asia, Hillary Clinton said in Kansas City: "I strongly believe that it is important to utilize distinguished Americans of both parties."

Yea, right, while Bush and company trash the Constitution and the Bill of Rights at home, do you really think sending poppa Bush and Clinton is going restore America's image around the world?
Let see now, under Bush we now torture, violate the rule of law, conduct pre-emptive war, want to nuke Iran, and continue to occupy IRAQ and build 14 bases so we can have our troops in IRAQ for 50 years, like Korea.
That's just great.

Once again "Experiance and Change" seems a little shallow with these two.
Hillary to Bill "You stick to being the bash Obama man so I can act all soft and sweet"
Bill's on the couch tonight.

NO to Bush/Clinton/Bush/Clinton.
I hear Kay Bailey Hutchison is retiring from the Senate. Maybe Laura Bush should run . . . 2016 might be a good year for her to run for President.
Then Chelsea could run and then Jeb and then . . .

A Clinton and looking for a Bush. I'm sure there's a joke in there.

Lance: Right...this from the party that time and time again votes in wealthy white married men and actors? You repub's are so full of bull you don't know where it ends. You don't know when to put your foot in your mouth and say "ok, I'll shut up now". If you really feel so much for putting someone in besides the usual (Mitt Romney has $200 million plus), then put in hillary or obama, otherwise foot...mouth.

Mixing Bush and Clinton is like mixing oil and water. Bush is truely a supporter of Americanism and the Clinton's are truely supporters of socialism. They don't mix. What kind of message would that send to the world?

Once again, Billy Jeff lies like a rug. Good grief, when are we ever going to be rid of those people?

Apparenly from day one Hillary will be prepared-for politics as usual. With her we not only get a twofer that send chills down our spines, but the same corporate lobbyists that demand their ounce of flesh before Congress can pass laws for the benefit of the American people. Isn`t the former President Bush the one that supported Saddam in his war against Iran when Iraq used biological weapons? No thanks to this twofer.

I don't blame Poppa Bush. Why do good things now? It's too late for his son to redeem himself, so to hell with everyone else. That's the Bush motto anyway isn't it? Don't do good for America, just do what's good for the Bush Boys, right? And that is war, war, war - it sells oil, oil, oil. It will be a good day when the word bush means just another piece of yard ornament again and not the destruction of America, American values, and the middle class.

Let's see, Clinton says "open for business", guess that means he wants to transfer more of our jobs out of country like he did with NAFTA. Then you whiny libs wonder why the jobless rate was so high.
Ron - Destroy American Values? Bringing Democracy to millions of people who were under a murderous dictator destroys american values? I guess you would have felt better if Saddam was vote Time's man of the year.
Bush made mistakes, but at least he didn't sell out the country.

The only thing that will restore the U.S's image abroad is if they have a complete turn-around in foreign policy.
Believe me, that is NOT going to happen under Hillary Clinton.
It's hard to affect change when you are in the pockets of wealthy donors who have a different agenda.

You really think Repubs are rich and DEms are working class...You might check the Clinton net worth, and how Hillary worked on the Wallmart board. Gore? Check it out...a zinc mine, tobacco farm land, and millions in Occidental Oil shares. Keryy? Kennedy ( who just successfully fought a wind farm 200 miles from his home. Yeah..check Wikopedia for the term 'limosene liberal.' I used to believe the same crap--then I grew up.
