Edwards: 'If People Just Hear Me'
December 28, 2007 6:45 PM
ABC News' Raelyn Johnson reports: Former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards has long struggled to have his voice heard that the fight for the Democratic nomination is between more than two people — Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, and Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill.
Today during a campaign event in Dubuque, Iowa, a voter stood up and told Edwards she was trying to make a decision about who she was going to caucus for — Sen. Clinton or Sen. Obama.
“I’m trying to make a decision between Hillary who’s coming tomorrow night and Barack,” said the voter. “I came thinking I was for Obama because I think Hillary polarizes people and I think we have to get along with other countries, we have to get along with each other…I read Barack’s book and he seems to be able to get people together. Now I hear you and I’m thinking I really like this guy,” she added, after hearing Edwards speak moments before.
Edwards interrupted, “You just described my whole problem. If people just hear me, that’s all that has to happen.”
Edwards then pleaded his case for why he deserved a shot at her vote saying, “My view is it’s the job of the president of the United States to unify and galvanize the American people,” adding, “I do believe however that there is a fight in front of us. The fight’s not with politicians and it’s certainly not with the American people. The fight is with these entrenched monied interests that stand between us and change.”

John Edwards is the only candidate that will represent the middle class working Americans in this country. We are going to put him over the top in Iowa. I hope the rest of the country will do the same. If we nominate Hillary we will hand the white house back to the Repubs!

You use to be a nice guy, what happened to you. Your arrogant, and i don't like your $400 haircut. I still believe that you used your wife's condition for pity!and votes!

During the time Hillary Clinton was in public service, working on behalf of the poor, Edwards was busy chasing ambulances - taking a 50% cut or more from the settlements of the victims he represented. Now all of a sudden he has compassion and wants to represent the poor.
A political campaign takes a toll on a healthy person, let alone a woman with cancer. The fact that he is running for president when he should be spending time with his wife – shows his priorities. America has no need for a phony, $300 haircut & smiling, self-serving, one-term-in-the-Senate lawyer/Ken doll as president, when there are other, more qualified candidates.
Ken doll- Edwards is a convincing speaker, like a good, pragmatic, self-serving, prosecutor, but he will never be a statesman. Not in this incarnation or the next.
