Giuliani Hospitalized With Flu Like Symptoms

ABC News' Jan Simmonds Reports: Rudy Giuliani checked himself into and stayed overnight at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis Wednesday evening with flu-like symptoms.

"After precautionary tests the doctors found nothing of concern at this time and Rudy will be going back to New York later today. He is in high spirits and is grateful to the doctors and nurses who checked him out," Giuliani Campaign communications director Katie Levinson told ABC News.

The former New York City mayor appeared a little worn out at his final event of the day on Wednesday in Chesterfield, Missouri, but he made no mention about feeling under the weather at the time.

The Associated Press reports that Giuliani had felt the symptoms while campaigning throughout the day in Missouri but only decided to go to a hospital when they worsened during the evening.

"The symptoms worsened as the day wore on and shortly after taking off from Chesterfield, Missouri, for New York the mayor became uncomfortable enough that our plane returned to the airport in Chesterfield," Levinson told the AP. "To be on the safe side, the mayor consulted with his personal physician in New York and made the decision to go to the Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis for routine tests."

The Republican presidential candidate had a long day of campaigning on Wednesday, made only longer when his charter plane was grounded by mechanical problems after his first events of the day in Kansas City. As a result, Giuliani along with Senator Kitt Bond, R-Mo., traveled across the state via car for a Town Hall meeting in Columbia and then to a fundraiser in Chesterfield.

Giuliani has no scheduled public appearances on Thursday and is next expected to be on the campaign trail on Friday in New Hampshire for a three day swing before the Christmas holiday.

Unbelievable. A normal person recognizes flu symptoms and prescribes him or herself rest. Why go to a hospital, and use their valuable resources? Not a sign of a 'strong' leader is it?

Expect Rudy to drop out shortly. New York Daily News about to reveal a story that will make his campaign a hopeless cause.

I hope he's OK. Good thing he has health insurance.

It's not unreasonable to think Rudy's hospital stay was a stunt for sympathy. In its own way, this episode resembled the public cell phone call from wifey poo. And yes, maybe Romney will be the GOP choice, proving once again that republicans favor their liars above all.

What a bunch of garbage! Turn a plane around for just "flu-like symptoms?" Uh-uh! Secrets? Baloney! I'll guarantee his crew thought he was having a heart attack or something much more serious than the flu. Puleeeeese! This is a sign of how dishonest this man's campaign is and a future look at him and his dishonesty in the White House. He will not have my vote. We are tired of lies!!! For Heaven's Sake-BE HONEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get well soon, Rudy. All us Ron Paul supporters will miss the free publicity harassing you on the campaign trail! Guess we'll have to go wave signs behind Mike Huckabee. Word is, he doesn't have enough campaign cash to even have signs printed, so he'll have a full background of Ron Paul signs. Hope he likes blue.

Mike,I was just thinking the same thing. You and I get the flu, we drink juice, rest& maybe take nyquil. What a crock.Hey Rudy- Have a nightcap, get some sleep& you'll be just fine.Says Doc Whistle

It's the flu, not ebola for crying out loud. If this isn't an example of how far out of touch with the working class these politicians are, I don't know what is. It's like the wealth being admitted to the hospital for exhaustion. Give me a break. Any "common" person goes to complain about being tired we are more or less told to suck it up, everyone is tired these days. And talk about wasting hospital personal's time. Forget about the car accident victim lying on the gurney bleeding to death, take care of Rudy, he's more important (in his mind anyway).

Flu my ###. This is just a little quiet time to wipe up the small mess he's created???

Posted by: BronxBoy7117 | Dec 20, 2007 11:49:54 AM

Admitted to hospital? As far as I can recall this is his first and only admission to anything.

No dought a sympathy ploy. Piece of garbage.

I could understand the hospitalization if he was not from this country and had never had the flu, but this is rediculous, I am thinking it was not "flu like symptoms" but maybe something else...(lay off the viagra perhaps?)

could be anthrax, 2 weeks before iowa -- can he afford to be sick? -- you guys are a bunch of idiots sorry, can't you be nice-- its Christmas-- get a life

Posted by: Dan | Dec 20, 2007 12:12:23 PM

Why be nice to the guy who helped PULL off 911 and was instrumental in quickly disposing of the evidence of thermite cutting in the beams.

Posted by: tim osman | Dec 20, 2007 12:22:54 PM

Rudy gets sick and looks sick.....what is Hillary's excuse? She looks sick everyday.

Posted by: No to Hillary in 2008 | Dec 20, 2007 1:59:52 PM

Rudy probably is "sick" that Mike Huckabee is rising in the polls and Rudys declining. Seeing all the braindead evengelical sheep buy the Hucksters sales pitch is making Rudy sick no doubt. Maybe Rudy should claim he can walk on water,be for intelligent design, and declare he's a born again, and he'll get the "sheep" vote.

Yesterday the news was this guy is tanking in the polls and not even campaigning in Iowa, etc. TODAY he's on the front page because of "flu-like symptoms" -- WHAT A CROCK! I'm offended that he thinks I'm that stupid even if nobody else is.
