Romney Shows W. Love
December 19, 2007 1:56 PM
ABC News' John Berman Reports: Standing on the banks of the chilly Mississippi River in Davenport, Iowa, Mitt Romney gave a great big political bear-hug to President Bush. Praising the president's foreign policy, Romney said, "I believe that our president has acted in good faith, and in an effort to protect his country, and do everything in his power to keep America safe."
Bush has been without majority public support for 35 months straight, according to an ABC News/Washington Post poll released in December, with only 33 percent approving of the president's job performance. So, why would a candidate show so much love for a president so low in public opinion polls?
Why, to draw distinctions with his chief opponent in Iowa, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee. In a piece in a "Foreign Affairs," Huckabee criticized Bush for having an "arrogant bunker mentality."
Romney apparently thinks that's unfair," I think that Governor Huckabee made a significant error in insulting the president as being subject to an arrogant bunker mentality, he said, "that is not accurate."
He went on further to question Huckabee's leadership credentials, "I was not impressed with his perspective on foreign policy."
Romney has been in full attack mode when it comes to Huckabee (or as his campaign would call it, full "contrast" mode.) He chooses to spend time at virtually every campaign stop, saying Huckabee has a "liberal record" on taxes, spending and crime..
Romney is trying to chip away at Huckabee's lead here, while at the same time make himself seem like the scrappy underdog. Romney frequently says Huckabee has a 22 point lead in the polls here, even though most polls show the race much closer. Romney seems to be playing the expectations game, trying to cushion the blow if he loses here.
This, even though he has spent more time and MUCH more money in Iowa than Huckabee.

Fantastic! Thank you Mitt Romney!
It's about time someone has the spine to stick their neck out for our fine President! Enough of the bashing. That is liberal mentality, we don't need it from RINO's like Lord Huckabee.

Fantastic! Thank you Ann B!
It proves once again that clueless Republicans can completely surround yourself with your own pathetic denial of reality. HE REALLY IS A FINE PRESIDENT! (Sarcasm - )

Are we sure that Huckabee's "arrogant bunker mentality" comment wasn't a reference to ARCHIE Bunker??

Romney is toast. Huckabee is going to win Iowa, South Carolina, and ultimately Florida. Even the Repigs don't want another NeoCon. If they did, they'd back Giuliani or McCain. Romney is desperately flailing.

ANYONE WHO THINKS (?) BU$H IS A GREAT PRESIDENT WITH FOREIGN POLICY KNOWLEDGE MUST BE RELATED TO THE FAMILY OR A DANGER TO SOCIETY AND THE WORLD.

I'm in a quandry.I would like to see Huckabee get the nomination(sure loss).Romney will lose too but, I'm thinkin'he'll be much more entertaining with his flip flops and support of Mr.32%.

If the Republicans cannot see through the hypocrisy of Romney, then let them be doomed. Mitt Romney is a low-life, snake oil salesman, who has no morality, no integrity and no principles. It will be really good if Romney wins the Republican nomination. Because any of the three Demoracts, Clinton, Obama, Edwards, will wallop him nationally.

IF this sycophantic babble is NOT just a patronizing/vote begging bone: Thrown out to those still laboring under the delusion that our incumbent President (or his Pappa) has even a CLUE as to how truly horrendous his admin has been/continues to be (unto serious recession!), then I really, really want to talk to him about a couple bridges I have for sale near Provo.

Praising the Bush foreign policy?Well, that ought to about do it for Mitt.

Glad to see Mitt (aka: the Brylcream Narciscuss) showing his true colors, too bad for the Repubs that color is baby poo yellow. Give him credit for taking a stand, unfortunately he's trying to stand on a big crumbly pile of manure. I guess he figures that the 32% of folks who still support the BoyEmporer are like 99% of the folks who aren't disgusted with the Repubs....makes sense.
