Rudy Wants To Give You A Holiday Fruitcake
December 19, 2007 9:32 AM
ABC News' Jan Simmonds Reports: Rudy Giuliani unveiled two holiday political advertisements Wednesday, one promoting harmony among the presidential candidates and another jokingly offering a fruitcake for every American.
In the first ad, which will begin airing in New Hampshire Thursday, the former New York City mayor dons a red holiday sweater and tie to say that for this holiday season, he hopes that Americas can have "peace with strength, secure borders, a government that spends less than it takes in, lower taxes for our businesses and families... And I really hope that all the presidential candidates can just get along."
After that last line, viewers hear a jolly laugh as the camera reveals Santa Claus sitting next to the former mayor. "I was right with you, up until that last one," he tells Giuliani.
Giuliani then turns to the camera and says, "Can't have everything" and wishes the viewers a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
The second ad, a web video, also has a humorous bent to it.
In the same setting as the television ad, Giuliani this time says it has been difficult to get all of his shopping done with the early primary schedule.
So due to his shopping troubles, Giuliani says he is going be "working to get everyone the same gift… a safe America, lower taxes, secure borders, job growth, fiscal discipline, strict constructionist judges" and then probably a fruitcake.
"It will be a really nice fruit cake, with big red bow on it… or something like that," Giuliani adds after someone off screens yells "a fruitcake?"
The two ads aim to present voters a softer, more human Rudy Giuliani -- a side rarely seen during his television appearances.

Rudy IS a holiday fruitcake, and I don't want any!

I like fruitcakes, and my opinion of Giuliani might improve if FedEx delivers me a nice fruitcake from him before Christmas. I'd really be impressed if he send along a six-pak of O'Douls to go along with it.

Two more errors in judgement: red sweater and fruitcake or any fruit for that matter. I don't think there are that many Log Cabin republicans in Iowa. 1-2% of the vote.
