A Self-Proclaimed Diva Loosens Up in the Homestretch
January 02, 2008 6:59 AM
ABC News' Eloise Harper Reports: Candidate Hillary Clinton relaxed a little in Iowa City, IA Tuesday night. Perhaps suffering from homestretch exhaustion threw some spice into her usual stump speech.
"From one diva to another!!!" Clinton screamed, thanking the performer who entertained the crowd before she took the stage.
"We like a lot of hearty partiers coming out to pick the next president of the United States, that is exactly as it should be." Clinton said to the voters of Iowa City , after explaining to them that this was the last stop "I know the party just ended right?" Clinton said after wishing the group a happy New Year.
Clinton, picking on the nation's capital said, "We have a lot of deficits in Washington including a fun deficit."
Sen Clinton then slammed the Republicans telling voters sarcastically that the Republicans wouldn't wage their "usual, brutal, mean-spirited campaign," because "it's the Democrats turn." The at-capacity crowd laughed at the Senator's remarks.
Clinton also admitted to making fun of a child who was "slow(er)" than the rest at school during her youth. "Children with disabilities weren't welcomed in our schools" she explained "When I was growing up down the street from where I lived there was a boy that never went to school we kind of made fun of him -- I hate to admit -- because he was slow."
One man shouted out from the crowd in the middle of her speech "I hear you make really good cookies too." Clinton rolled through, didn't pause, and continued delivering lines. Afterwards, at 11pmCT, Clinton still took the time to shake voters hands and meet with them personally "I hope you will Caucus for me" Clinton said to voter after voter.
