Bill Bradley Backs Barack Obama
January 05, 2008 11:54 PM
ABC News' Karen Travers Reports: Former Sen. Bill Bradley has endorsed Sen. Barack Obama and will travel to New Hampshire on Monday.
Bradley will have events in New Hampshire throughout the day targeting independent voters who can select which primary they will vote in on Tuesday. (Bradley's message in 2000 was largely aimed at independent voters).
"Barack Obama has a unique opportunity to create the broadest possible coalition of people who will be interested in change in the positive sense," Bradley told ABC News in a phone interview. "There is a difference between a leader and a manager. He's a leader. He has a vision."
Bradley said he waited until after Iowa to make his official endorsement. A source close to the senator said that he has waited until now to endorse because he wanted to give former Sen. John Edwards a shot in Iowa first.
"I like John Edwards a lot, I have a lot of respect for him. And I wanted to give him a shot to make his case in Iowa."
Bradley thought Obama had a strong performance in last night's ABC News debate in Manchester, N.H.
"His point about words really hit home and his larger vision came through. That's the difference between a leader and a manager," Bradley said.
Bradley's sense is that independent voters "want to make history" with their vote and they will vote in the Democratic primary on Tuesday, which he says is a good sign for Obama.
Bradley is a former Democratic senator from New Jersey and ran for his party's nomination in 2000, losing to former Vice President Al Gore.
A high-level Obama campaign staffer confirmed the endorsement late Saturday night on the condition of anonymity.
ABC News' Sunlen Miller contributed to this report.

Hillary is going down.. in New Hampshire. She didn't help her cause tonight, she keep repeating that she has over 35 years experience, which reminds me that she's old and out of touch. I'm 54, will only vote for Edwards or Barack Obama. Hillary is no Bill Clinton.

Well then I say:
"God Help US!!!"
Time would never come - What time???
I am still not getting it but it is a democracy, although a democracy that elected George Bush twice, and if a majority want inexperience and naivete oh well. See you in 4 years cause he will leave office as confused as he is naive now... Oh yeah and we will be not doing so good. Sorry to be the one to talk reality to y'all but this sucks. Get Bush from the Repubs and Obama from the Dems, both big talkers and nothing behind it. WOW, I almost want George to stay, and that is a big deal for me to say...

There's no comparison between George Bush and Barack Obama! You are sorely mistaken.
Maybe you meant to say JFK and Barack Obama??
I was a soldier, I am a soldier, I will always be a soldier and I support Barack Obama for President of the United States.

I watched what I could stomach about the debates with the Democrats - Hillary just seems so angry and rather than attack Obama, she should focus on her platform. When I hear Obama speak he makes me hopeful that something can be done to salvage America both at home and abroad. A lot of people feel disenfranchised like no one is listening to them and that disenages them from the political process.
Hillary uses the word "I" a lot; Obama uses we - that makes a difference to me

Obama will not defeat the GOP in a National election period. Hillary Clinton is the candidate with he most experience and ability. Go Hillary!

Ted Sorensen, JFK's speech writer, compares the Obama campaign with JFK's and gives a strong endorsement for an Obama presidency...

BOB: You're a Soldier? Remember, there's soldiers, and then there's REAL SOLDIERS. A REAL SOLDIER wouldn't follow a person with no experience, such as Senator Obama. A REAL SOLDIER would follow a LEADER, such as Hillary Clinton.

WE ARE NOT ELECTING A ROCK STAR WHO CRIES AND TAP DANCING. WE ARE ELECTING A LEADER WHO WILL DICTATE FUTURE AMERICAN DESTINY. DON'T ELECT IGNORANT AND INEXPERIENCED POLITICIAN FOR FUTURE AMERICAN DESTINY. ELECT HILARY CLINTON WHO IS EXPERIENCED, HARD WORKING AND FAR-SIGHT VISION. DON'T BE SUCKERED INTO BELIEVING A CON-MAN TYPE. I HEAR ACCORDING TO SE. BIDEN, OBAMA NEVER ATTENDED IMPORTANT MEETINGS. VOTE WISELY FOR YOUR CHILDREN'S FUTURE.

"WHEN I AM ELECTED PRESIDENT." That was the most ARROGRANT statement of the night, which was completly NEGATIVE and uncalled for this early in the game. She should save her Hillary VENOM, for a latter date. We need a President that can stay cool under pressure, not become HYSTERICAL when attacked. She was all over the place tonight, giving herself credit for acomplishments of "husband" and her main goal was to attack Obama, and spout promises from a day long gone. Sorry, but I am tired of passing the Presidency to the Bush's then the Clintons back to the Bush's who is next in line Jeb? No WAY! What Hillary didn't expect was Edwards to have pure passion, and for Obama to remain focused, calm and collected which is what we expect from someone who is truly presidential. Not giving the same OLD crap, which by the way has FAILED!!!!!!!!!!!

Bill Bradley is one of the true independent, ethical thinkers in this country. His most recent book "The New American Story" was not only insightful but filled with doable ideas for fixing the mess the country is in. I think his endorsement of Obama is a very substantial development.

Good on you Bradley! Kudos!
This news of your Obama endorsement is great, and well appreciated by all of us Obama supporters -- and there ARE quite a bit of us -- here in Jersey.
Bradley's announcement is very timely. As NJ Governor Corzine, is wrapped in with the Clinton camp, VERY wrapped in it - he's evidently going to start campaigning with her on her stump speeches throughout the country.
Evidently he's going out to Los Vegas to campaign with her in a couple weeks, and is scheduled to go to several other cities and states with her in the near future.
And no doubt, he'll be rolling out a huge ceromonial red-carpet (figuratively speaking 'red-carpet') for her when she begins really campaigning here in Jersey, and just acting like she is the Queen Sheeba -- and telling us all that we should vote for her in the primaries.
I wish Corzine is just stuff it!
Everyone knows that the Clintons have paid him off for this, and promised him a position on her administration should she win the '08 general.
So good on you, Bill! Most people in the state have more respect for you than for Corzine -- and your endorsment of Obama will get definately get people listening, and likely turn a lot of the current 'undecided' voters into the Obama camp. If we can eek an Obama win out of this state in the primaries it would be amazing, not very likely - unfortunately, but it would amazing and absolutely fantastic!

This is a huge deal. Bradley is still very well thought of especially in the northeast. I suspect this adds the final nail in Ms Clinton's coffin in NH.

I am wondering of those who are now experiencing this epiphany for change also voted for Bush by being swept under the Republican the banner of CHANGE during the previous two presidential elections. The mantra of change has been offered previously to fickled voters in almost every election cyle I have experienced. Finally for those who have currently taken up the populist banner, where were you in the critical Gore/Bush contest?

Pointman, please don't take a cheap shot at an individual serving in our military. It's blatantly unfair of yourself to categorize what type of soldier this individual is because it is very likely you have never met him. I'm also willing to bet you have never met Hillary.
When I was in the Marine Corps one of the places I was stationed was Marine Barracks, 8th and I, Wahington DC. I found myself on the White House detail a few times, and I came away with the opinion that President Clinton, while he had faults was basically a good man with a charming personality.
Hillary on the other hand, was overall pretty nasty as a person. Very smart, but with a very condescending attitude. Basically, many people just did not like her. That's important because she's going to have to unite this country, and I just don't believe she can do that. She's very calculating, and cold. The bottom line is that she's not a likeable person. We need a uniter not a divider

A former basketbrawl player endorsing Oprama? Man, that must make it official. People are much too caught up in "diversity and race" instead of qualification and experience to run the country. It has turned into a popularity contest instead of a Presidential campaign. Diversity has come to mean anyone but Caucasian. That is as racist as it can get. Congratulations, the American double-standard and hypocrisy is alive and well. I must be the only one in the world that thinks it is much too wild a coincidence that seven short years after 911 we have a candidate that is of Islamic descent, yet passes himself off as a "converted Christian" and does not talk about religion with the voting public. This candidate appears to target the "youth of America" vote because he knows they do not "know any difference or any better" and will pass my points off as "irrelevant". This is my measured opinion. I would like to see the candidates discuss religion in an open forum before the elections. That is not about to happen and makes my point for me.

By telling us she has been an "Agent of Change for 35 years" , Hillary Clinton showed us she has NO IDEA about the KIND of CHANGE of which we speak...She just doesn't get it...it was sad, actually.

How stupid is this country to elect Obama for the ticket? You'll get exactly what you deserve. He will lose to any GOP. In fact, if he gets the nom, I will purposely vote for a GOP just to keep a hawk in the white house. Obama is a child with no experience in how to deal with the real dangers in this society. If he wins in NH, expect the market to speak and tank just like it did on Friday after Iowa, down 2%.
This country speaks in mysterious ways.

Bill Bradley isn't "just a former basketball player". He is a Rhodes Scholar, a respected former U.S. Senator and outstanding thinker and author. Before making these comments, it might be good to read one or two of his works. He's written several thoughtful works about tax policies. He serve America very well and ethically during his terms. I appreciate his support for Senator Obama.

I can't believe this Islamic stuff is coming up again. Obama has not been around his Non-practicing Islamic father since he was 4 years old. He was raised by his White mother in the US. Get a grip. Obviously you missed his Faith Tour and Obama talking about the iportance of his Christian faith. Get a clue and know your facts!

Part of me wants Obama to get this nomination - I want to see how the pundits (NEWS MEDIA) handle the RACISIM that is going to come front and forward. You people live behind the rock that say RACISM is not alive and well and living in the US. I live in Tennessee and saw it come forward and also saw that the NEWS media did not talk about it. COME ON, bring on another REPUBNANT and see the nation crumble. TWO AMERICAS - I LIVE IN THE BLACK AMERICA and now how it really is.
