Clinton Beats Obama in Primary Fundraising

ABC News' Tahman Bradley Reports: One day after her enormous victory in the New Hampshire primary, Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-Ill., announced passing Sen. Barack Obama in primary fundraising for the second quarter in a row.

On a conference call with reporters Wednesday afternoon, the Clinton campaign announced raising $24 million for use in the Democratic nominating contest in the fourth quarter of 2007 outpacing rival Sen. Barack Obama, whose campaign said it brought in $22.5 million October through December for use in the primaries.

Both campaigns have spent tens of millions of dollars so far and the Obama campaign was tightlipped, Wednesday, about how much actual money it has left.

Senior Clinton aide Terry McAuliffe told ABC's Kate Snow that Team Clinton has $25 million in the bank for use to get the nomination.

The presidential campaigns do not have to report their cash on hand figures until the end of January. Overall money available is most critical to the remaining presidential contenders because they will be forced to spend millions in some of the nation's most expensive media markets with upcoming contests in New York, California, Illinois and New Jersey.

The two gigantic money operations shattered numerous presidential fundraising records last year with both campaigns eclipsing the $100 million mark. Obama's fourth quarter figures were included in a strategy memo e-mailed around by his campaign manager.

Although the Clinton campaign did not release an overall fundraising figure -- money for use in the primary and general election -- for the fourth quarter, the math shows that the former first lady outraised Sen. Obama in total money brought in last year. Clinton's $24 million plus figure October through Demember makes up for Obama's small lead at the close of the third quarter. On Sept 30, Obama was slightly ahead of Clinton in overall fundraising $78.9 million to $78.6 million when using total receipts for both the primaries and general election and not including account transfers. (Clinton transferred $10 million from her Senate account).

Oh, and the fundraising battle continues - the Clinton campaign also announced bringing in $3 million in the first 8 days of the new year which falls behind Obama's $8 million raised so far in 2008.

Has anyone noticed that Hillary didn't beat Obama by a very wide margin? And, he has more delegates....which puts him ahead.

Wait until Michigan, as a Richardson supporter my only hope to keep the Clintonista out now is to vote Obama.

Kimberly:

Actually, when you count in superdelegates, Hillary is ahead by over 100 delegates!

Action today, not promises about tomorrow!

Go Hillary Go!!

Let’s talk about this so called experience that Hillary speaks of so highly..Yes she’s done allot, so did President Lincoln, but will we vote him back into office (if he was alive)? The answer to this question is most likely a 100% no! Why because Lincoln had his time. He was a good President, but as noble as he was his duty it’s over. Just as Hillary’s. I say she takes her experience and continues being Senator of New York.

There is a time and place for everything. Hillary time and place was first lady and senator of New York. She had her turn and bringing her back as the President will only bring up old things from the 90’s. Monica, arguing with Republican and Bills many relationships. Do we want another four to eight years of this? This experience will only set Americans back far past the Bush years, but back to 90’s. This is Obama’s time and Obama’s place. Let’s stand with him as he leads America back to Victory.

In addition, I hope African Americans will finally realize we have been used by the Clintons. That there dirty politic tactics to assume Bill Clinton can be the only so called "black president" has misled not only black American, but all of American and rest of the world in assuming that this is all we can expect... The Clinton's will also make the same mistakes If they believe African Americans and America as whole will stand by while Bill stops not just a black man, that would be too petty to assume that this is how blacks and America as whole believe, (that this is about a black man), but a man chosen to lead all of America as one. To lead our country back to Victory.

This letter is to address the New Hampshire Primary. The night of the primary’s I found myself flipping between the news shows to see if Obama would win. Of course I wanted him to win, but I should have known he wasn’t going to win, I should have known that somehow between Hillary fake tears and Bill Clinton who just has to be the only black president who wasn’t the real black president wouldn’t stand for it. If we who think that President Bush somehow tampered with the elections which is how he won twice despite the polls, despite the horrible war than why can’t we believe that Bill Clinton doesn’t have this power as well. That he would pull out all the strings to save Hillary’s enable defeat. Did we really think as African American he was going to allow us to have our “real first black president”? Did we really think that the media just got it so wrong that Obama was ahead in the almost all the polls, I say no, I say the misuse of Power just doesn’t lay with the Republican party just Hillary and good old Bill seems to always point out that, but that they are just as down low and dirty when it comes to politics as the republican. Do we really want four to eight more years of the Clintons? Do we really want four to eight mores years of the Clinton’s fighting with the Republicans? Because this is what we will get, this is what will happen. Now Obama should win fair and square, but I don’t think against the Clintons he can (meaning Obama). The Clinton’s was not going to let another Iowa happen and have the republicans laughing about her all day tomorrow. In my opinion Hillary thinks she is owed the White House. Hillary and Bill will never give the Democratic nomination to Obama they will bring out every favor, every trick in the politics book even if they have to sleep in the dirt with republicans before they see Obama win. In my opinion Bill thinks he owes this Hillary because of the Monica Lewinsky scandal. He needs to make up for his sneaky ways of cheating on her, embarrassing her in front of American and what better for him to do this is by striking a deal with his wife (the White House for your total forgiveness) by any means possible of making her President.

Signed,

A person against evil politics.

Who has the most money will not decide this race. If your looking for high fundraising to be Hillary's boost. You can stop now. Ask Mitt Romney where lots of money got him.

that's a very good observation, kimberly. but please keep it on the hush. let them believe that they are ahead. it goes with the teachings of sun tzu.

Tahman Bradley - Clinton beating Obama in fundraising. Are you kidding? Let's do the math.

Since the 4th Quarter Clinton has raised 27 million (24 mil in 4Q2007 and 3 mil in 2008) while Obama has raised 30 million (22 mil in 4Q2007 and 8 mil in 2008).

Congratulations to Mrs. Clinton. She has gone thru thick and thin, The media has scrutinized her to the point that I am in tears to hear the uncall for comments. Its just horrible they way they treat her. Obama funbles, flip flops, admits to over endulging on booz, marijuana, cocaine and on the verge of Heroine and he is called Honest.Did he think it was going to stay
in the dark, so did he admit to this because he is honest or because he knew it would come out and he has manipulated the naive that he is honest.
This is BS. It's all to keep a woman from proving that she can indeed be President. She will open the doors to our up and coming yougn women. Are we all blind? Do we not know that Women in this day and age, are working in the same position as a man but we are making 35% less in salary than a Man? Its not the man's fault, it is the way we started and no one is at fault. But now we have the power to prove Women deserve and can do the job. Obama's comment to Hillary as she so graciously said she agreed that he was very likable and his answer to her was"Hillary you are likable enough" ENOUGH????? What did he think? did he forget where he was and it was a slip of the true man that he is? He has blind the American Man becasue those would rather have a man in the white house and I can respect this..but ladies don't let him blind you. We are to smart to fall for the nice guy act. One slip of the attitude as I have told my daughters..its the little words that count. Don't let this pretend nice guy get us...He says and says and says what?
Words! Empty words!!! My vote is for Mrs. Hillary Clinton because she will be equal to Men and Women, She is for the American People!!!

Kimberly Hopkins
Puts Obama ahead by 1 delegat-give us a break..wait till he get to California!
and even if he should win the nomination. Republicans are just waiting for this...becasue no one wants and inexperienced calamity for our United States...

I am shocked by some of these comments. I have deep concerns about Obama. Certainly not the ones listed by Michael.
Experience is the issue.
Remember George Bush he was going to "unite the country."
He was the great "Washington outsider."
His lack of experience has been a disaster for this country.
Words are easy to say...actions take a great deal more courage!!
Right now I say Go Hillary!!!

Go Barack! Your $8 million to their paultry $3 million just after the first of the year! Wow, go OBAMA '08!! Now let the American know Hillary has no experience to be president. NONE. She can't hold a candle next to you. She has teardrops, dirtbag tricks and cheats, not treats!

Remember this saying and try not to forget it. "It will all come out in the wash". Whatever happened to the NH ballots will soon come out in the open. Something happened and it was not good.

Experience is NOT the same as LEADERSHIP. It is actually far down the list of traits that define great leaders. JFK was hardly experienced, and neither was Truman, but both had some very good ideas and both were considered very good Presidents during their tenure in office. Bush's problems have little to do with experience and far more to do with his intellect. Great leaders tend to be intelligent people.

Leadership, which I hope is what everyone wants in the next President is predicted by such traits like:
Intellect;
Vision (convey to others);
Consensus building; and
Delegation of authority

Hilary Clinton is intelligent, but that alone will not make her a great leader. Personally, her shifts in direction leave me bewildered as she seeks to "find her voice". As for consensus building, like with husband Bill, it's been "my way or the highway" and if she does not get her way, it's everyone elses fault. Yesterday it was Bush misleading her. When Bill was in office it was the "right wing conspiracy", today it is Barack Obama misrepresenting her words. This is a person you want to lead the country? One filled with poison and who refuses to accept responsibility for herself? One who has decided "she deserves to be President" and will stop at almost nothing to degrade any competition to prove she is better suited for the job? Don't we want a Democratic Nominee who will stand on their record and principles and explain to us why we should vote for them rather than attempting to tell us why we shouldn't vote for their competition? Who said Obama's record is a "fairy tale?" Why would Bill Clinton say that? Why not provide us evidence that Hilary is the best candidate without the negative comments about Obama?

Obama has a platform and you can find it on his website which covers a range of issues from the Economy, Education, military, Iraq, Health care, etc. He is positive in his approach. He is a consensus builder. He is intelligent. He expresses a vision for the future and a desire for change that many view as the right direction. I don't know how well he delegates authority, but from what I can tell Hilary doesn't. Think about what makes a great leader. Think about the difference in how the administration would interact with Congress were Clinton or Obama President. Who would be most open and transparent? Who will be most direct and honest with the public? Who will be mostly likely to work with others and who most likely to alienate others? Who will lead by example and who will lead by playing the blame game? This isn't a hard choice when you think about it. Isn't time to quit talking about the "Experience" to be President and the "Leadership skills" needed to be President?
