ABC News' Eloise Harper reports: After an hour-long television interview critiquing Sen. Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton went to an African American church, where the only words she had for her democratic rival -- were of praise.

Clinton, who attended services in a predominately African-American Church in Columbia, S.C., spoke about the presidential race.

"We never thought we would see the day when an African-American and a woman were competing for the presidency," Clinton said. "I am so proud of my party I am so proud of my country and I am so proud of Sen. Barack Obama."

Clinton delivered her remarks to the audience and noted Martin Luther King's upcoming birthday. Clinton has been enveloped in a firestorm about comments she made about King in recent days. Clinton did not address the issue -- but longtime Clinton friend Bob Johnson, founder of BET, commented to reporters.

Johnson, who accompanied Clinton to church, criticized Obama for allowing his campaign (as he described it) to distort what Clinton was saying.

"Barack knows better than that, why he would let his people let that come out just shows to me either he is not in control of what they are saying or he's allowing them to say it knowing it's wrong," Johnson said.

Eloise, you're exagerating. Hillary did not spend an hour and a half criticing Barack on Meet The Press. She articulated why she thinks she is the best candidate. She also said some complementary things about Barack. Were we listening to the same show?

You're also implying that she is hypocritical. She is thrilled that the Democratic party will likely nominate either an African-American or a woman. She is proud of her opponent's pioneering accomplishments in the same way that she is proud of her own.

Why can't she make her case on Meet the Press AND be proud of Obama. She wants to win the presidency AND she respects the societal change she and Obama are forging.

Number one, the republican candidates for the presidential race have no idea what the middle class Americans of this country have to deal with in life. I mean the middle class citizens who ony live on a income of under 35,000 to 40,000 dollars a year which is over half the population of this country. Number 2 ... I want someone in the presidential office who understands this situation and also understands the political demise of this country that has occured with the war in iraq. This so called war has turned most of the planet against the USA and that is not good at all. We have lost most of our allies due to this war. The present republican office has turned this country into something that is almost communist and have not had one thought about how the middle class people have to live. Number 3 ... Everyone is discussig change, but what change???, No one has specified what change is going to take place, I want to know!!! HOW IS IT GOING TO TAKE PLACE , WHAT CHAMGES ARE THERE GOING TO BE AND FOR WHOM WILL THE CHANGES BE FOR ..... All I hear about in these chats are what candidate is trying to make the other sound the worst in this race as usual in any race and nothing is being said that makes any sense. We need to disc uss this country's state and who will be the best person to sit in the chair to lead us. Who has the best background for thisoffice and who cares about the state of this country and it's citizens, not citizens of other countries or the well fare of other countries. McCain is a war monger just like Bush, put him in office and we will get into world war 3 and this country will no longer exist as we have known it. Put any republican into this office and it will be the same because none of them have any idea how to runa country. all theycan do is talk big and when it comes to walking the line they will just twiddle their thumbs and pass the buck ...... We need the democrats inoffice for this new term, Obama is not experienced enough to handle the presidetial office yet, maybe next time around or after that but no way is he ready to run this country yet. Hillary is the best choice for this country to be able to regroup and restore the faith of this planet in the USA. Her foreign county experience in thepass has been very good and that will give her the edge in running this country. she will have bill behind her, when bill was president he had this country in wonderful shape regardless of his personel affairs while in office. with the two of them working together this country will become a great natin again. I have fath in the Clintoms to restore this country in the eyes of the citizensof this country and in the eyes of the country's of this world. I am 65 and do not wish to continue living in a coountry that wants to control our very lives and have the ability to ease drop on our private lives. We need someone inoffice that will take control and reduce the taxes on gasoline because that is why it cost so much not because of the increase of the cost of oil by the barrel. I want someone inoffice who can reduce the cost of food abd the cost of our economy and living expenses. I want someone who willhave the ability to reduce the interest rates and keep them low to make it possible for people in the lower middle class which is over half of this country tobe able to own homes and not have to pay 10 times the amount for realestate mortagages and car payments and loans. No one canafford to pay the high cost of anything withinterest rates sky high al the time. high interest rates cause the economy to become unstable and go into a depression, just lok at us now. I cango on but what is the use....
