Clinton Rallies Her Troops

January 06, 2008 11:03 AM

ABC's Kate Snow Reports: Hillary Clinton's bus pulled into a damp bank parking lot in Manchester this morning, where hundreds of young volunteers were waiting to greet her with smiles and rehearsed cheers.

"Great job last night" one man yelled as Clinton disembarked, Chelsea following close behind.

"I've got about three days of voice left and I'm gonna use it to talk to as many people as I can find," Senator Clinton told the crowd.

"We've got to have a president who is ready on Day one," she said.  And then she delivered a new line: "There's a big difference between talking and acting, between promising and performing."

Clinton was upbeat about her performance in last night's debate.

"I think it was very clear last night that I have been making change for a long time!"

Clinton then boarded her bus again to go knock on doors herself.  Organizers have been very busy canvassing on her behalf all weekend.  They are focusing on going door to door because voters are sick of phone calls and are frequently hanging up on canvassers.

Clinton was relentlessly upbeat as she went door-to-door to about ten houses in Manchester with her daughter Chelsea.  Wearing a down parka, she walked the slushy sidewalks with a beaming smile, pausing for the occasional photo with residents.  No one refused to talk with her, but some were more willing than others to allow the trailing cameras into their homes.

Maura Labrie, an undecided teacher,  invited Senator Clinton into her dining room.  She asked Clinton about education and testing under No Child Left Behind.  Clinton told her she'd prefer to have individualized assessments.

"For 35 years I have made change," Clinton told Labrie.  Labrie's young son took a photo of his mother with Senator Clinton using the camera he got from Santa.  As the Senator left, Labrie told reporters she would probably support Hillary now... but then added, "I still don't know."

Privately, one Clinton organizer said they have been surprised at how strong Obama's organization efforts are in the Manchester area.

Hillary has been ahead of her time, now everybody is jumping on her healthcare bandwagon. Change? Please, out of the twenty some odd candidates in both parties. Hillary is the ONLY woman. I am so thrilled to see in my lifetime the 1st strong intelligent woman give these guys a run for their money, and they now have resorted to showing their true colors, the good old boys club that was apparent last night. That tactic has been beating down woman for all time.

Hillary - hang tough, keep up the fight!!!!!!!!!!

This country is in trouble.

You want change? Elect Barrack Hussein Obama and the only change we'll have is what is in our pockets.

Posted by: Facts | Jan 6, 2008 11:39:33 AM

The media is doing the spin for Obama without doing the reasearch. It seems like they are more worried about ratings and getting on the band wagon, than being fair and balanced as they all say they are.

The media acts like Obama is the next coming of Christ. When in reality he is taking words from the mouth of King, the Kennedy boys, Clinton and others. Talk about going back to the 60's.

I will give him the fact that he can give a speech, more like a pep rally you see in high school before a game. But last night he sucked at the debates. Poor Obama looked tired!! Well Hillary and Richards have a few years on him and they looked just fine.

The first 1/2 African American candidate!! Not the first African America candidate. Maybe Cheney can say he is the first African American politician becasue he is related to Obama.

Sorry, but I don't want a president with no experience of leading something other than a pep rally.

Shame on you, Facts, for posting that kind of racist message. America is moving forward. You better join us or you will be left behind. We want a DOER, someone to change the image of America, someone to inspire the youth as JFK did, someone to take the Special Interests head on and instil some sense into how Washington operates. And that person is Obama. If you want to know what change is, check his records in Chicago.

Posted by: Jay | Jan 6, 2008 12:00:34 PM

Want to know Obama's Illinois record? Check his voting record.

He voted FOR the early release of sexual predators in jails. The ONLY IL senator to do so!

Posted by: Facts only | Jan 6, 2008 12:03:47 PM

Obama talks a big talk but never gives any solutions. I want a hawk in the White House not some preacher that leaves empty promises.

Yeah he's a nice guy just like they said about Bush. Look what that got us. Like it or not we need a politican in the white house not some lazy preacher that watches a football game instead of the republican debates.

Hillary is the only candidate to take on the republicans and special interests and make real progress in our country. Obama seems lazy and not up to form last night. His buzz words are a sham. Wake up America.

Posted by: Joe | Jan 6, 2008 12:08:01 PM

sorry make that 3. oh, and i think hillary showed in the debate last night shes the only candidate who is really serious.

Posted by: matt hardeman | Jan 6, 2008 12:12:39 PM

To borrow from elsewhere: Senator Clinton demonstrated poise and electability in this debate. It was her debate to lose and she came with her gloves on and soundly stood her ground and regained her step. Wonderful wrap up article. Obama failed to confront the fact that his NH co-chair is a lobbyist and that will not resonate with NH independent voters. Spin all you want, but it's already widely reported on other MSM sites. He also failed to rebut the argument that he could have a debate with himself, which was based on his answers to a questionnaire when he was running for another office and not from the HRC camp. Obama attempts to discredit a question when he thinks he cannot lie his way through it and he tried to do that several times tonight. His "hope" was the true loser of the night. Is experience really a leper? What a joke. Obama and Edwards need to stop holding hands under the table and get a room.

Posted by: Karen | Jan 6, 2008 12:48:14 PM

I don't know how anybody could watch that debate and feel like Obama is ready to be President. He just didn't seem like he knew as much as the others. He was the least impressive to me. We're not voting for class favorite. We're voting for President. If Charlie Gibson can throw him on his signature issue of lobbyist money, I can only imagine what the Republicans will do to him.

Let's not get this twisted. All of these candidates have operatives, consultants, pollsters, etc. that have been, are, and continue to be part of the Washington elite. John Edwards and Barack Obama espouse this idea of 'change' and ridding Washington of the status quo, but it's a bunch of hooey because we all know that if elected, they will bring with them their warm, fuzzy, Washington affiliated people that drive their message and control their actions. So, although, many may view John Edwards and Barack Obama as new faces that will bring the welcome change needed, we must see beyond that and examine who and what surrounds them in their political circles. Even though the presentation and look may have changed a little, we must realize what still looks like a duck and quacks like a duck is indeed a duck. The same people continue to drive the message and control our government. It reminds me of the movie American Gangster in that none of these candidates' hands are completely clean, and so we, voters, must then distinguish between the lesser of evils, which is an impossible task. Evil is evil however one teases it and whatever way one spins it. Who wins? No one. As Americans we must deal with the broken political process, and in light of this sobering reality, voters should want and demand someone with the most experience to bring about the wanted change and deal with evil elsewhere in this world. Words are words, however inspirational they may be. I don't need inspiration; I go to church for that. Don't tell me what you're gonna do in pretty language. Tell me how you are going to do it. What I need is someone who can work for me and all Americans and come through on his or her promises. I believe Hillary Clinton is our wo(man)!

Posted by: KR | Jan 6, 2008 12:51:09 PM

Hillary is so head and shoulders above the other candidates. She will win the nomination if character, intelligence, and experience matter to teh American people. She is the substantive choice. I am so tired of hearing of "change" when no definition of what that change encompasses is put forth. Our country does not need to move to the left. We need a centrist who can bring the various sides together by competent underline competent leadership. I want my country back. I want our traditional American character and good name restored.

Posted by: Lisa Lind-Larsen | Jan 6, 2008 1:14:12 PM

Give 'em heck, Hill! I had been leaning toward Sen. Obama until the NH debate, when I realized that oratory won't hack it in the Oval Office. I DO want change from our corrupt incumbents, but change tempered by experience and seasoning. We must have a president willing and able to stand toe-to-toe with Osama bin Laden and take him out. Incidentally, I disliked intensely the guys ganging up on you ~ it backfired! Stay strong ~ American needs your leadership!

Posted by: ethel | Jan 6, 2008 1:15:29 PM

KR you got it wrong. We are choosing a class president. Many Americans are obsessed with whether a person is likable. It's not as though we were going to be invited to dinner. Barak Obama is an empty suit when it comes to the issues. I was really impressed with Hillary last night. Edwards makes me crazy with his endless anger and the 'son of a mill worker' tale. He won 2nd place in Iowa with 3/10s of a percentage point which in Iowa must be 5 people and he acts like it was a huge something. Unfortunately he's the kind of person who will hang in there to the bitter end. Even Obama's win in Iowa wasn't that big of a deal when you consider that on 10% of the eligible people voted. The whole Iowa thing is a job and the caucus should be relegated to the trash heap. But we have to face the fact that the media doesn't like Hillary and can't drool enough over Obama which explains his favorable press.

CHANGE?

AFTER 43 MALE PRESIDENTS, WE DO NEED CHANGE!

A COMPETENT, SMART, CAN BE THAT CHANGE.

East Side Love

Posted by: East Side Love | Jan 6, 2008 1:37:10 PM

lets get this right folks-Obama wants change-Edwards wants change-Richardson wants change and so does Clinton-ok change-one thing you all need to ask yourself is who HAS brought about change in Washington for the longest time???-if you need to be told who has-I do this by deduction-Obama and Edwards have NOT-they preach it-pretty as it seems-but ONLY Clinton and Richardson HAVE brought about TRUE change-I don't want a man or men who "look" pretty on camera-I want someone who is tough and has knowledge on how to get this change to happen-Obama and Edwards-you both looked like the typical Male-going after a woman simply because she doesn't agree with you-come on people-all that fighting between the two men and the only woman-funny how they had to both gang up on a woman-just to make themselves look better-typical males-Go Hillary-we all know you are the only one capable of changing not only America but every place else.

Posted by: Mark | Jan 6, 2008 1:47:07 PM

I watched the debate and found Clinton to be the most articulate and responsive to the questions; Edwards came across as mean spirited in his opportunistic and unprincipled attack on Clinton; Obama was a bit too sphinx like in his (un)pronouncements, except the line about "words do count"; Richards was the most genial and knowledgeable.

No southern grace left in Edwards, no hope left for Richards. Clinton has the talent but she, as many other female candidates, will have to find a way to respond without getting defensive.

Posted by: rr | Jan 6, 2008 2:02:39 PM

Obviously Clinton campaign staff have nothing better to do that sit on websites and blog. Hillary demonstrated how evil and vicious she is last night. Edwards pushed her button and she for a moment forgot where she was. She is finished and you all know it. So rather than sitting on this blog--go contact some voters because you will need them on Tuesday. Ooops I forgot--no you will not because she will not win! Stop hating!!!

Posted by: mary | Jan 6, 2008 2:17:22 PM

I agree with Sen. Brandley. We need a leader with a vision and Hilary is a great manager and not a leader. She's indeed not for change and a champion of big companies/lobbyists.

Obama is genuine, straighfoward, and truthful and that is the kind of president/leader we need to make our vision a reality. Hilary can't.

Posted by: roger | Jan 6, 2008 2:20:04 PM

Hillarys whole life has been rehearsed, she is TOAST go Obama

Posted by: airmanc5 | Jan 6, 2008 2:30:44 PM

I didn't know we are going to vote for someone who the MEDIA thinks is LIKABLE. I think OBAMA and EDWARDS acted like children last nite ,ganging up on HILLARY.The Media has gone too far with their STAR OABAMA just to increase their ratings. I for one am sick and tired hearing of the GOD OBAMA. We now refuse to watch any news that includes him,

Posted by: connie | Jan 6, 2008 2:31:26 PM

and matters,

If Obama was a woman candidate he'll still come out the way he is now because he is genuine, straight, and more truthful/honest than the Washington insider/status Quo/Big Company Hilary who has no vision and clearly is not the leader type.

Posted by: roger | Jan 6, 2008 2:37:21 PM

It is so freigtening that, once again, at a time when America so badly needs true leadership - that we are getting so caught up in "charisma" and "race" are getting top billing from the media.

I'm not against "African America Leadership" but I AM for FINALLY giving a woman the opportunity to hold the JOB that MEN have had!

Can anybody REALLY tell me what was sooooo devastating to America about a balanced budget, budget surplus, unparalled economic growth, Jobs, foreign nation repsect, as a result of the Clinton presidency?

Can anybody honestly tell me that Hillary Rodham Clinton's intelligence, polictical and governmental experience, and foresight into our nation's dire need for health care reform (15 years ago) wasn't a significant part of the ACCOMPLISHMENTS of the Clinton Presidency?

Can anyone tell me how in the world has this "less likable" candidate earned the respect of her state and bi-partisan colleagues as a two term Senator? If American loves "charisma" and "Charm" and great speeches absent concrete information as to how their alleged "experience" will play out in our country and the world at large... look no further than the Bush-Cheney regime. Bush charmed us all the way to the top and then did exactly what they damned-well pleased.

Rampant "Great Vision" absent the knowledge, experience, and great wisdom in applying it to straitening out the mess we have on our hands is as dangerous as it gets.

The "Clinton Team" may have had some blemishes - but say what you will... they out-performed any Presidency in history when it came to our economy and keeoing the PEACE.

She had the VISION on healthcare, and we would have all benefitted from allowing her to succeed. Our politically rhetorical gender-biased strongholds stopped her then...

For God's sakes America... give the woman a chance, this time.

Charisma beat out Al Gore... and he was right about a lot of things... four or eight years is a long time to waste figuring out that charming US isn't WORKING FOR US!

Posted by: dverot | Jan 6, 2008 2:38:58 PM

Wake up America! This is one of the most important elections in the history of the U.S.

America is in serious trouble;health care, immigration, economics, global warming, education, political structure and this is just the top of the list.

We need a president who is strong and ready to fight for America and who can and will use experience, knowledge and
skill in correcting the horrendous mistakes of the Bush Administration. HILLARY will do this. My vote is with Hillary.

Posted by: Elnor Eggart | Jan 6, 2008 2:48:30 PM

I agree with Mary. On other blogsites--even ones with 'progressive', or 'liberal' in their titles, I see precious few true-blue Hillary supporters. She doesn't have grass roots support--she has media support. She has support from a tested, mean-spirited cadre of Clinton cronies, who have practiced the politics of personal destruction for decades. She has the wholehearted support of a dwindling number of tired, old, traditional Democratic core groups--the kind of people who get drunk each weekend at the top of the Waldorf, then talk about free alchoholism treatment for the poor on Monday. But on this thread?????----cookie-cutter clap-trap, suspiciously smililar, although sometimes four or five posts apart. It seems like the latest Hillary spin is from women thankful that at last there is a strong women 'giving it' to men. Another spin-chorus: Obama is nice, but so was Bush. I won't dignify those mindless, mimeographed talking points, except to point out that they don't come from independent-thinking Hilary supporters. There are no independent-thinking Hillary supporters.

Hillary just came out bitchy last night. Sorry but I think she lost it.

Posted by: LeAnne | Jan 6, 2008 2:58:06 PM

I find it very disturbing that Obama was the only IL senator who voted for the early release of jailed sexual predators.

The public needs to know more about his record in the senate. So far this has been lacking in the mainstream media.

Posted by: concerned | Jan 6, 2008 3:01:05 PM

I am tired of hearing about "change" - what are they talking about........what change? What are we changing? I know where Hillary is coming from and she is explicit in what she plans to do, but Obama, what change is he bringing to the table? Saying the word, doesn't bring about the "change". I am totally lost and perplexed at this young NOT know it all. We don't want a "teen" to run this country, we need back bone and strength and knowledge - Hillary for President all the way. My vote in NH for Hillary..........

Posted by: nicolemarie44 | Jan 6, 2008 3:03:08 PM

I am a supporter of Hillary. However, when she throws around her 35 years of experience, I get a little concerned. I think that this claim may come back to bite her. If this claim is true, she will probably need to explain it. I am aware of her educational background, her superior intellect is obvious, I remember all the research that she did on the feasibility of universal healthcare in this country ( I do not hold her responsible for the fact that
Congress did not act on it), additionally, the fact that she was able to control her temper during all the personal attacks against her husband during his 8 years as President was amazing. If she feels that being the First Lady of Arkansas and then the whole country somehow gives her claim to 35 years of experience validity, she may have to clarify this statement.
I wish her well.

Posted by: Sandra McCarty | Jan 6, 2008 3:17:16 PM

I love how some say Hillary had a breakdown because she defended herself in a strong matter. Edwards was raving all night and was loud many times. No wonder of his "breakdown".

America has not made progress has it. Attacking a woman for standing her ground and being powerful and delivering a strong response of her accomplishments. Yeah, Obama is all about change. *rolls eyes* he just couldn't help jumping on the bandwagon of male chauvanism and addressing Senator Clinton as Hillary while using Senator or Governor to his male counterparts.

Obama is the worst of them all hiding behind the facade of change.

Posted by: Misogynist Americans Suck | Jan 6, 2008 3:19:02 PM

Remember those of you that are at least 3o, times were good real good during Bill Clintons years. Farmers, middle class, lower class all had a bigger piece of the pie. Now we have no pie and unless we get a president in that can out perform from day one we will only slip further down. We need a person with guts savy Hilary proved that last night. Wake up she is fighting for us. Hillary is the only choice thats intelligent.

Posted by: jack voorheis | Jan 6, 2008 4:16:35 PM

People are saying that Hilary has lived change -- I say this - Hilary's attitude is not a change from the pompous attitude which inhabits our presidential office today. Obama will bring about a new type of politics to the table, one which has been absent in Washington for YEARS, and I'm not mistaken when I say that Hilary, although not in the White House is and has been a part of the politics we need to change.

As for those of you who say she is the strong woman we need -- How many of you (Michelle at the top for example) think that she showed strong character by staying with her husband after repeatedly finding out the dirt that she did? ... Only still with Bill for the power if you ask me.

Posted by: csmith | Jan 6, 2008 5:28:51 PM

If Obama wins...it wouldn't surprise me. People in the United States are so shortsighted and easily swayed by political manipulation.

How else do you explain George Bush being elected TWICE...?!

The same George Bush that was able to get the support of so many Americans in his goal of going to war with Iraq AND alienating the rest of the world in the process.

Barack Obama is a wonderful orator and appeals to so many of the younger generation with his broad smile and poised look. However...I am DONE with people who...like George Bush... does not have the credentials or experience to run this country.

If Barack Obama had Hilliary Clinton's experience and record of fighting the "bad guys" in Washington...I would be voting for Barack Obama. He doesn't and I won't.

The job of President of the United States should not be entrusted to someone who spent so much time hanging around students and teaching students instead of GROWING UP in the real world of Washington.

Barack Obama for President...another mistake by the American people.

Barack Obama = This generation's Jimmy Carter...idealist with no experience in Washington.

Posted by: Michael | Jan 6, 2008 6:17:04 PM

Last night's debate was refreshing and revealing. Hillary is articulate and tenacious..."a long marcher ". Idealism and charisma in leadership can be very problematic. But reality is needed to heal America's credibility as a world leader. Be strong Hillary. You are the voice of reason and wisdom and you have my respect.

Posted by: C. Crippen | Jan 6, 2008 7:29:09 PM

hilliary will be a good president she got the experience an the ability she stand up for all the people in the united states an obama is just a talker an does not do what he going to do he just another george bush i glad hilliary stood up at the debate last night she done good give her a chance she got experience carolyn from iowa

Posted by: carolyn | Jan 6, 2008 9:32:23 PM

Good Lord! Hillary is experienced! No, she is the agent of change! No! she has white house experience,,,ooops Bill was president, not Hillary. I know lets vote for Laura Bush. Come on people, Obama can inspire us...the people ...to take our country back and get rid of the old time politics of Bush/Clinton/Bush! Go Obama!!

Posted by: Doug | Jan 6, 2008 9:39:09 PM

I am in agreement that the most prosperous years our country has lived in were during Bill Clinton's presidency. Our country had respect from around the world then. He didn't have knee-jerk reactions of let's go to war today, unlike crappy President Bush...

I think the CHANGE speech that Hillary should utilize is one of Top Priorities When I Become Your Next President, citing specifically a "First 100-Day List" of the things she intends to do once in the Oval Office in Washington. That would represent "CHANGE IN ACTION", not just saying the words "change".

Does anyone else agree with me here? I would like to hear her articulate/spell out exactly what things she will do so that other voters can see that she's not just dropping flowery words, but that she has her Game Plan presented to the American Public, so they KNOW who and what they are really voting for!

GO HILLARY!!! You've got my vote and I'm in Bush Country, here in TEXAS (ugh)! LOL

Posted by: Jacki | Jan 6, 2008 10:00:34 PM

If anybody took the time to research Hillary's accomplishments they would KNOW she is the best person to be President. Obama and Edwards said they would go after Osama without any clarification. Hillary knew Pakistan would need to be contacted after the rockets were launched so that Pakistan wouldn't bomb India. I believe that takes experience and knowledge of the tenuous relationships around the world.Who cares that you "like" her. Can she get the US out of the mess we are in? YES, YES, YES!!!! Go Hillary

Posted by: bs4shure | Jan 6, 2008 11:02:20 PM

i conducted a random phone survey with friends and some acquaintances after the debate, they believed Hillary was the strongest. The republicans masquerading as independents don't want to face Hillary in the general elections. But they will be stopped. Obama will be stopped. Edwards is done after South Carolina. Hillary goes on to win it all.

Posted by: Mohamed | Jan 6, 2008 11:03:49 PM

I am a registered independent in my state. And I read plenty of "left" blogs, and frankly I am getting tired of the rhetoric. This is too important to leave to anyone whom hasn't taken the time to train themselves properly, that places personal ego before country. Yes, he is a great Speaker, very likable, he is a professional politician though just like the rest. Where is the substance? He has no foreign policy experience he has never managed a budget. 4 years of Obama will be 4 more years of inexperience, we need experience to clean up this mess. We need someone now, whom understands the system and has the patience and fortitude to fix the last mess that a "charming" man created. We have done this already, folks, and look where it got us as a country. Stop looking for a personal savior and let's be real. I for one, would love to go back to a great economy, and great foreign respect, has anyone been following the dollar, goodness. Hate the Clintons if you will, what was their crime? Not being perfect, being human, doing a great job for this economy for this country? They left this country great shape. If I am looking for someone to clean up a mess, I look to someone whom has done it well before, not somebody who is untested. Wake up, folks, stop falling for the good looking charmer, We need Hillary, she has paid her dues. We need proven experience this time, not the cutest guy at the dance.

Posted by: LS | Jan 6, 2008 11:05:56 PM

Everone should look at Obama record, before making a decision to vote for him. We know what Hillary has done in the past. She has worked very hard on
health care. She can cross the isle in
the senate, even republicans has said she has done well to get along with each other. Change comes with results not just saying will it happen. So do yourself a fovor and look at his record before voting.

Like someone else said: who wants a surgeon who's never performed a surgery before. Iowa is a bad source for representation, that's why Obama won it. Besides, Obama's style is: “believe it because I say so.” He's already flattened.

Posted by: Strong79 | Jan 7, 2008 2:47:05 PM

Finally Hillary's supporter's are speaking out. Obama is a good orator.
However this is not the movies, folks.
Things don't get better just because of a speech at the end. In this day and age, media and paid consultants spin and turn everything white into black and vice versa. Did you not notice that Obama is trying look as if he stays above it all now that he was able to topple Hillary from the frontrunner status? He and edwards did not only a pile on but also a tag team approach, and now edwards looks more and more like Obama's henchman. If Obama wins, lets us see if truly the middle class will be uplifted, if education truly gets a boost, and if truly we will be safer ( or become the laughing stock of the world for having gone from an non-intellectually gifted president to a naive president--and naive voters--who needs on the job training. Change is just a word. Sending Obama to the White House is like saying Michael Jordan was ready to win the NBA championship when he was a rookie in the NBA. Never happened!

Posted by: decider | Jan 7, 2008 4:43:30 PM

Unbelievable....simply....unbelievable!

The muslim nation must be sitting back and laughing their butts off at the prospect of "one of their own" being President of the United States.

Americans are proving...in general...to be idiots. How else do you explain voting George Bush in office TWICE...and now....voting for an INCOMPETENT LIAR like Barack Obama.

Think people...THINK...!

Bush beat out Gore because inexperienced George Bush clamored about change and leading this country in a new direction (despite have no experience). What he did have was MORE FLAIR than Gore...and the idoits in American bought into that FLAIR instead of looking at the records and experience of both candidates.

Hilliary Clinton was battling against Republicans for decades while Obama was hiding out at the university discussing ideals with freshman students. She is "hands down" the most knowledgable candidate in the Democratic Party.

The Bill Clinton presidency was some of the best eight years we've had in the past 30 years....and yet....for some RIDICULOUS REASON....people are forgetting that and spewing forth hatred for Hilliary.

Hilliary should have neutered Barack Obama and John Edwards challenge of the "status quo". If the "status quo" brings us back to the type of country we were under Bill Clinton's presidency...then Americans should be supporting the democratic "status quo" movement 100% instead of wasting their time with inexperienced candidates that have never brought about change in their entire careers.

Barack Obama is a racist (see the church he attends), closet muslim (family influence), with little experience (freshman Senator), and NO HISTORY of making any type of real change (the amount of times he skipped voting on measures as a Senator).

And...if he goes on to win...he will represent a third straight term of INCOMPETENCE in the White House.,,and a third straight term of American's going with emotions rather than using their brains.
