Clinton Spin Loses Steam After Iowa

ABC News' Eloise Harper Reports:  Following a lackluster showing in the Iowa caucuses, Sen. Hillary Clinton's campaign is citing new poll numbers to help make the case that her campaign is still on track to succeed post-Iowa.

A Saturday CNN/WMUR poll shows Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama tied at 33 percent, and Concord Monitor poll results show Clinton trailing Obama by one percentage point.

Senior Clinton strategist and pollster, Mark Penn, released a memo Saturday, highlighting two new polls.  According to Penn, the new polls do not show a bounce since Thursday's Iowa caucuses.

Penn writes, "there is no statistically significant change in their numbers before and after the Iowa caucuses."

But Penn appears to shifting his interpretations of polling numbers, now parsing what is and is not statistically significant one week after calling Clinton’s 33 percent in Iowa polls to rival Barack Obama’s 31 percent a "lead."

When the Des Moines Register's poll came out days before the Iowa caucuses, projecting that Obama was in the lead, followed by Clinton and former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards, the campaign pushed back fiercely. Staffers told reporters that their internal polls were reflecting just the opposite. They whispered that Senator Edwards was in the lead followed by Clinton followed by Obama.

It turns out it that wasn't the case.

Mark Penn admitted to reporters on a press plane flying from New Hampshire to Iowa that he had in fact seen the same trend that the Des Moines Register projected -- with Obama in the lead.

The Clinton camp inundated reporters' e-mail inboxes Saturday evening, in attempts to push the "no bounce" phenomenon.

Pls tell me how polling is accurate. How does one poll a young person with only a cell phone? Polls are not capturing the young vote, I beleive, and it will be the huge win for Obama in NH.

Rasmussen reports and American Research Group have Obama up 10+ and 12+ respectively. Kiss it Penn!

Duncan Hunter rates a place on your list, yet you omit Dennis Kucinich ? This is using your power as the MSM to protect your corporate owners by omitting the one candidate that represents true change. I find this truly disturbing.

Hillary needs to understand that George Bush is not running for President in 2008. She needs to quit attacking Bush and explain what she intends to do if she were to be elected President.

Hillary's attacks on Bush are a waste of America's time and energy.

The voters of New Hampshire have the opportunity to end the Clinton empire once and for all. I hope they don't waste this unique opportunity.

The Clinton's are the old boy club. Stop them now.

The Republicans are scared to death of Hillary Clinton. They are working overtime on the abcnews blog.

Barack Obama was originally named “Baraka.” It is not an African name. It's an Arabic word meaning “blessed” and comes directly from the Koran.

BTW, Obama lied about his father's religious denomination during the DNC Convention in 2004. He said his father was a non-practicing Christian. Let's see how the LIBERAL media uncovers this lie, as well. Don't hold your breath.

There's a whole BOATLOAD of info about Obama's father and how it runs totally opposite of what he's telling people.

It's amazing how the media has jumped on the Obama bandwagon since the meaningless Iowa caucus. In the debate tonight Hillary showed just how strong she is and just how weak Obama and Edwards really are. Change does not come from giving good speeches but from actually working to create change. Hillary 2008! Yeah!

The only poll that matters is the one that shows the number of people who will not vote for Hillary, currently at around 56% and climbing.

Thanks Hillary for letting Americans know that she is also about change. 35 years of changing policy and the first women president is change. She was so strong tonight and looks like Obama is a losing momentum. Thought he would close with his own comments and not agree with Hillary about regrets. Go Hillary!

I want to know why Baroc Obama is calling John Edwards Senator Edwards, and Bill Richardson Govenor Richardson and Referring to Senator Clinton as Hillary? This is not only and insult to her and a way to denigrate her, but he is treating her in this manner because she is a woman. I do hope that Senator linton will bring this to the attention of the Moderators and demand the same respect as he is giving to the other Candidates. I am a woman and if I were not voting for Senator this would make me go to her corner.

It was inspiring to see Hillary tonight! She was strong, secure, and inspired. She made her points clearly and finally joked around. I think that her ease tonight will speak boatloads about her character, and let people know that she is a likable person.

Obama, as they said tonight, is a 'likeable' candidate. Congrats to him for being likeable. I would personally have an EFFECTIVE president, but to each his/her own I suppose.

The republicans are strongly salivating
at an Obama nomination. They have started
playing thesame dirty politics on mrs
Clinton that they played on senator John
Kerry,former Georgia senator Max Cleland
Cynthia Mackeny and a host of others. The
republicans and the media are so silent
when it comes to asking Obama his stands
on certain issues.Obama is too liberal
for the general election. Everybody know
that the voters of this country always
vote from the center. They know that the
only place that they can successfully
challenge Mrs Clinton is in the very
left of the democratic party in the
primaries. This is working for them now
but I hope the all the hard working
middle class Americans see them for what they are up to.If Obama becomes the nominee, which I hope not, watch the
slaughter.Did anyone remember what was
done to John Macain a war hero in the
2000 prmaries, treated General Collin Power like no secretary of state when
he dissagreed of going to war immediately.Obama is not ready for this job yet.The last time I checked on the
classified section of employers looking
for new emplees,it always states "only
those with experience needed".The world
is very complex now, economy is very bad
health care needs reform. We do not need on the job training. This not a serious decision people.I care less about the people of Iowa, they never get
it right. As they say, the only time that part of the country is once in four years.Iowa does not represente
other states in this country.I think
we should this time give a woman a
chance,she has the experience,than Obama
DEMOCRATS DO NOT LET THEM TO WIN THIS
TIME.DO NOT FALL TO THEIR GAME.HILLARY,
YOU HAVE MY VOTE>

Eloise
I am not impressed with your assesment- glad you are not president. Hilary won by leaps and bounds and I was undecided until today. Reality check you need- she exposed and was great and fought back after being ganged up on by two wolves- obviosuly you have not been a woman long in politics....I am from a long lione of democrates - two governors! Obamacoment on football reminded me of Bush wanting a beer. Obamma should run in 4 years- not now- he does not have any experience and now I want brains before charisma!!!

You are spinning Hilary ....She was amazing tonight and gets my vote or would you rather have Obamma who wanted to watch football--- hmmm sounds like Bush with a beer. Clinton held her own with dignity- forget charisma
