Giuliani Finance Director Returns to Private Sector

January 11, 2008 1:08 PM

ABC News' Jake Tapper Reports: ABC News has learned that Giuliani campaign national finance co-chair Roy Bailey has stepped down to return to the private sector, to his post at Giuliani Partners.

Bailey stepped down from the volunteer position in December in order to focus on the needs of the business, which has made the former mayor a multimillionaire. He had traveled a great deal as national chair but felt he could  no longer maintain that schedule or commitment to the campaign of Giuliani.

The other national finance co-chair for the campaign, Jim Lee, remains in his position.

After reports surfaced that senior staffers for Giuliani's campaign took January pay cuts, Giuliani's campaign manager described the move as one that would allow the campaign to maximize resources and denied money woes for the Republican candidate.

"Many on the campaign team joined Rudy when the pundits were saying he couldn't win," Mike DuHaime told ABC News.  "We joined because we believe he would be a great President, not for a paycheck.  This does not affect the vast majority of the staff."

Responding to these reports, the Giuliani campaign released 4th quarter financials. At the end of December, the campaign had $12.7 million on hand, $7 million of which can be used toward the primary.

Amid rumors last week that Giuliani staffers were forgoing January salaries, the campaign flatly denied to ABC News that that was the case. The campaign says things have changed in the last week: when it told ABC a week ago that the pay cut story wasn't true it was "because it was inaccurate a week ago."

I am awaiting the day Giuliani drops out of the race for the White House or preferably he is knocked out by the competition with a bloody nose. Tired of him already and his politrics. Glad to know the cash cow has ran out of milk. May the cows breast stay menopausal.

If he were still Mayor of NY he could simply shuffle some bills around to different departments to pay...and hide.

i hope rudy stays in..i like him.

Well, it even took electronic voting manipulation for him to appear to have received MORE votes than Ron Paul in New Hampshire! Time for him to mumble 911 a verb and a noun to himself!

Rudy's decision to sit out the first month of the primaries brought him down. Better that he went down in flames now before he could bring the rest of the country with him with bad decisions. I guess he is worse than Bush, at least he could keep the money rolling in.

Guiliani, McCain, Huckabee, and Romney should all drop out. The country is not going to elect a candidate who repeatedly states their intention to attack yet another sovereign nation and engulf the Middle East into a larger conflagration. These neo-conservative idiots don't understand that the country wants a leader who knows how to AVOID war, not go to war.

That's OK... Giuliani also forego's integrity, so no biggie that his staff forego pay

Drop out Rudy, Mitt, John and Fred. You’re all losers and the Republican party is finished for the foreseeable future. Your shady pasts and Neocon ways have caught up with all of you. No more neo-con Presidents ever! No more [phony]-backward-cowboy-fake-religious-neocon Presidents ever! Ron Paul is the best choice among Republicans. In fact, even though I don’t agree with his libertarianism, he is still the most honest and forthright of them all. I don’t care if he lost out during the debate to the ‘smear machine’ candidates like Romney who use one-liners to cover their own dishonesty and corruption. Paul is just too honest to participate in the ‘mean-reactionary-slicker’ game of Romney and McCain. At least Ron Paul cares about the people, the Constitution and the American way. He isn’t a Bush-bot clone with fossilized adherence to the policies of failure of the Republican party ever since Ronald Reagan. Plus Ron Paul wouldn't cater to the rich and big corporations. I guess that’s what greasy-boys like Romney want for another 8 years, to finish our country off.

He should just pay all his staffers $9.11 or defer their payments until 9/11/09. Nine Eleven.

mr.Guiliani it's time to let go from the presidential race.

Posted by: beverley | Jan 11, 2008 3:54:22 PM

Giuliani will be just fine. He is the only intelligent person running in this race. He should and will be the nominee. The money will come to those who is destined and Rudy is destined to be president. Go Rudy 2008!!!

Rudy's oponnents are all praying that he will drop out of the Race because they are very very very scared. The man is very intelligent and can do great things for this nation. He is the only candidate not relying on gimmicks and empty promises and pep rallies and give aways to sell his message.

did I mention 9/11?

Rudy is a joke. Like Bush on steroids.

Posted by: Macho | Jan 11, 2008 4:36:59 PM

Rudy is a multi-millionaire.

His campaign has plenty of wealthy donors.

Why would his campaign staff "voluntarily" give up their salaries?

Why has he been all but invisible in this campaign? To concentrate on the later states? As people get to learn who he *really* is, they are abandoning him in droves. Contributions are drying up. Rudy is yesterday's news.

The man's own *children* can't support him for president. What does that say about him?

Nine-Eleven.

It doesn't really matter who the Repub nominee is. By the time of the election things in the Middle East will have taken a big step backwards (Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, & Pakistan) and the economy will be in the tank.

The Dems are going to roll in 2008. I've voted for the Republican party ever since I could vote (I'm now 30) and I'll be glad to see the Dems crush them this year. Because honestly, the Republicans have lost their way and need to seriously retool the party.

Before you vote, it is best to not just listen to the candidates and hear their promises, but look and see what groups they support and belong to. Example: Hillary, Obama, Edwards, McCain, Thompson, and yes Rudy all belong to the Committee of Foreign relations. For those of you who don't know, it is like the trilateral commission, it hurts, not helps this country. By the way, Cheney, Bush Sr., Romney's dad, and Huck's foreign policy advisor are all members as well. hmmmmmm. So much for "Change". Guess that only leaves one man standing.

Go Ron

Michigan & South Carolina,

America’s only choice for President is clear. Don’t be suckered in by the elite media’s propaganda. Tens of millions of dollars was donated by Wall Street to purchase the White House in this election. Some candidates are just too old or too liberal to win. Please remember, the rest of the country is waiting and depending on you (Michigan & South Carolina) to give us the opportunity to elect Huckabee and say no to big government, Wall Street, and the elite media. Those Americans who never had a set at the table, who don’t have the big money or a voice in this election are waiting to cast their vote for Mike Huckabee. Please provide America’s true conservatives the opportunity to vote with you.. No more Presidents from Camelot!

So Rudy has only $7 million available to him in the primary? No wonder he has had to cut back on the staff's pay.

Ron Paul on the other hand, has more than $20 million (assuming a few hundred K left over from 3rd quarter)

Ron Paul is hiring more staff _*and*_ running TV ads in the Feb 5th primary states.

Ron Paul is the best Republican candidate in the race. He's the only one who can defeat Hillary or Obama because he'll attract the independents and libertarians while retaining the social conservatives. Rudy's nomination would instantly create a conservative 3rd party, while Huckabee will drive off the independents and libertarians. The Republican Party has completely abandoned its traditions and have become a bunch of religious fanatics, pro-war nanny-staters. Look at the Real ID Act that's taking effect. What other GOP candidate besides Paul has addressed this?

Posted by: Brian | Jan 12, 2008 1:02:11 PM

How would a Rudy administration operate?

Deny something to the press one week, and when it turns out to be true the next week, claim it was false last week and true this week?

If they can't even keep themselves from lying to the press on simple matters now, just imagine what will happen when your rights and liberty are at stake.

The US is in a similar situation as NYC was pre-Giuliani. It is time to bring in the sherrif and clean up Washington. If Giuliani wins Florida he will be the nominee and he will wipe up the floor with Obama.

I cannot imagine Jason Miller being willing to take a pay cut. He is still rolling around in the money he made off Jack Ryan.

"Freedom is about authority. Freedom is about the willingness of every single human being to cede to lawful authority a great deal of discretion about what you do and how you do it."-Rudy Giuliani

At least the US has the common sense to reject RG's unique brand of fascism.

Rudy - GO AWAY.

What I find interesting is how the media has temporarily forgotten about Americans' 70% dislike for the war in Iraq. I expect this issue will come out swinging at the GOP nominee in early summer.
When this issue comes out again, a GOP nominee supporting the war will be toast. The GOP is going to decisively lose the white house if the GOP nominates a pro-war candidate.

Posted by: James | Jan 14, 2008 11:17:25 AM

They should all drop out and we should just declare Ron Paul president and get it over with. He's what the country needs.

I won't vote in the general if he's not the nominee and we'll have Hillary.
