Giuliani Pleads: 'I Wanna Ride a Pace Car!'
January 21, 2008 3:29 PM
ABC News' Jan Simmonds Reports: Republican presidential candidates have wooed so-called "NASCAR voters" for years, but GOP candidate Rudy Giuliani took it to the next level Monday at the Daytona International Speedway, pleading with officials to let him ride in a pace car.
It all started with an impromptu campaign stop at the famous track. The former Mayor sat in the front passenger seat as his campaign bus took a lap around the empty track at high speed. Music from the movie "Rudy" blared from speakers.
But when it was all over, Giuliani, who is staking his campaign on Florida, was riding high and wanted more.
"Can I drive a pace car?" Giuliani asked a race track official.
"Sorry sir," he said, "we gotta get you to the Town Hall, we got people waiting."
"I wanna ride the pace car!" Giuliani said, looking disappointed, his voice rising angrily.
"Next time, next time," the official said.
Giuliani didn't give up.
“All right, well let’s come back one more time,” Giuliani said. “During the campaign, I wanna ride a pace car! Will you let me ride a pace car? Do I need a license for that?”
The officials wouldn't budge. Dejected, Giuliani looked at a mother and son, standing nearby.
He tried one last time.
"One time, boys. One time," he pleaded, his voice whining. Walking away, Giuliani smiled and said, "We're all little boys, don't you know that?"

Lets talk about this guy's ego. It was huge during the debates. A super control freak. I pray he never rises to a government position again. Spoiled baby. He does not understand the word "no"!

Clinton, Obama, Guiliani; childish all; candidates that are ill-equipped to run a country, lead the greatest country on Earth, or drive a pace car. I have never seen such ridiculous and immature behavior by a set of so-called candidates in all my days. They all spend more time ridiculing each other instead of addressing the important issues of the day. No doubt Clintons', Guilianis', and Obamas' behavior will be justified and celebrated by some, and that is unfortunate for the rest of us.

This guy is hyperventilating over a freakin' PACE car. I'm a NASCAR fan but I wouldn't throw a hissy if I didn't get to drive around an ordinary new car with "pace car" written on it. What's up with that guy. Is he 4? If it was a stock car okay, but a pace car. Very silly to me.

Did any of you actually watch the video? His pleads were pretty tongue-in-cheek, which the written account of the story didn't imply at all. I thought it was funny.

Read the NYT artices to today about his years as mayor. His methods of "keeping" in line and punishing those who did not toe the line make for a very interesting story.
Not my next choice.

This worthless article is another attempt by the Liberal Media to get McCain nominated. Why??? Because the Democrats will eat him alive. Anytime Romney or Guiliani is in a tight race, the media are all over them...Why?? Because Romney or Guiliani would eat any of the Democrats alive. Don't be fooled... Romney would be my first choice, but Guiliani would do well also.

Will ,,,you do not know politics or the records of the men you praise. Get an education before endorsing candidates you know nothing about.

Poor Rudy.... "sorry sir, but the person who drives the pace care HAS to know how to LEAD the pack. Why don't you wait a while and see if you can jump in front on corner 4."

I can't keep PACE with abc losing my posts so frequently like they do. I really have to read their rules again so I can get my posts to stick. I think it has to do with causing somebody to think, which after the bushbaby disaster, is in critical shortage, especially at the embedded MAINSCREAMS. Rudy fawns for the NASCAR vote when he just embarasses himself begging for a PACE CAR ride. Soon, he will realize republicans have a ton of money and you can go sign up for a real NASCAR ride at high speed, but RUDY, you will definitely not be driving that ride. Judith is probably a far better driver than you ever were and I bet the POLICE let her turn on the siren and flash the lights.

Rudy's worried about racing a car while Ron Paul is busy with the economy

Geez Will -- "Liberal Media" or no (No, as a matter of fact!), considering The New York Times is not only the national 'paper of record' but the home town newspaper where King Rudy the Many-Married-whose-children-won't-even-speak-to-him held court for so many years
Never mind that 1) the article speaks directly to the interest of New York City inhabitants, the *vast majority* of its subscribers; 2) the N.Y. Times knows him better than any other paper, seeing they've covered him and his royal proclamations for so many years -- yes, even pre-9/11; 2) it's indeed *their* business having beening vested with him for so long; and 4) it was the people of New York who actually were Rudy's *only* major electors, ever?
But no! Don't let all those facts spoil your fallacious meme! By all means USE the "Liberal Media" canard! Keep Catapulting that Propaganda, boy! It's your right as a "Compassionate Conservative", right? As if anyone other than you delusional 24%'s believe that claptrap, along with believing that Bush, Cheney, and all their minions neither cheat nor lie... ever.
It's past time for you to recognize y'all have become as worthwhile of belief as those politicians just mentioned but by all means, keep wasting your time.
