Giuliani to Drop Out, Endorse McCain
January 29, 2008 8:57 PM
ABC News' Jake Tapper and Rick Klein Report: Rudy Giuliani will board a plane to California on Wednesday morning, as planned. But, sources tell ABC News, once there, instead of participating in the GOP debate, he will drop out of the presidential race and endorse Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.
Giuliani came down to greet supporters at the Loews Portofino Bay Hotel in Orlando. Responding to a friendly cheer from the audience, Giuliani laughed and quoted "that famous philosopher Yogi Berra, 'It's not over until it's over.'"
But it appeared over.
"Like most Americans, I love competition. I don't back down. . . but there must always be a purpose," Giuliani told supporters as his poor third-place showing became clear on the widescreen TVs. "Elections are about a lot more than candidates."
Negotiations between the two campaigns had been ongoing as Florida returns came in, with ABC News and other organizations projecting a McCain win in the Sunshine State.
"We ran a campaign that was uplifting," Giuliani said, not officially leaving the race but speaking in the past tense. "The responsibility of leadership doesn't end with a single campaign."
Giuliani has made clear throughout the campaign that if he weren't running, he would most likely be supporting McCain for president.

choregraphed departure, lacking honesty to state he is and was not presidential . for that matter not vice presidential either

Mayor Giuliani, who ran a part-time campaign, feebly at that, exploiting and distorting the facts surrounding 9/11, will certainly not be missed. The voters in Florida have sent him a clear message to pack his bags and move swiftly towards the exit.

If Rudy plans on dropping out he should NOT participate in the debates. Why even bother using up any of the alloted time that would be better spent with the two actual candidates?
Stick a fork in Rudy. He is done.

Thank God! Now will someone please arrest him.

Thank you, Florida, for rejecting Mussolini incarnate.
Now if the other candidate from New York will drop out sooner than later, then the American people can get down to the business of uniting around solutions to our immediate and distant problems. lol

Imagine that... a candidate tells 5 states they don't matter and then the rest of the electorate dumps him for his arrogance. There is hope for democracy after all.

Woo-hoo! "Warmonger John" vs. "Mitt the Moron" Can't you just feel the excitement from the GOP! Guess this means that "No luck Huck" is next in line to the chopping block. Can't wait til the real Republicans stand up and take back the party. These RINO's are pathetic. Hilliary's more conservative than these clowns!

Actually Hillary is not conservative. Perhaps you were suggesting these candidates are not conservative either, but you can take a look, if nothing else, at voting records.
Your comment doesn't really make any sense.

Go Ron Paul... He's my man and the only true fiscal conservative. Look at the man's voting record.

Rudy was the only candidate that had what it took to turn this country around. Mister religious fanatic Romney doesn't have a damn good position on any issue and neither does his other mega religious buddy Huckabee. Rudy shouldn't drop out. He could still win it. 22 states vote next week. It's a shame though that Florida was not smart enough to make the right decison.

Goodbye, Rudy... of COURSE you will endorse McCain, because we MUST keep the "old" in the "GOP". Romney is the only Republican candidate who offers ANY hope of "change". McCain would be a continuation of the present administration. He has even cozied-up the the Religious Right theocrats, so he would fit right in where Bush leaves off. Now, if only the Democrats would quit fighting each other, maybe we can see who to vote for!

Perhaps you haven't seen that Hilliary has more cash from the defense contractors than any Republican. Look it up for yourself.

The only thing Mitt changes is his views on ANY issue every five minutes. If THAT'S a conservative, then the party is offically DEAD! And as for Rudy, we've had eight years of a dictatorship from the Republican establishment. NOBODY wants another four-to-eight years, with another dictator-in-cheif! The people never left the Republican party... the party left them.

I hope that Ghouliani is done with politics for the sake of democracy! Of course he endorsed McLame war-monger and weasel sycophant!

McCain has lobbyists to thank for this win. Romney is the only candidate running for president with his sole desire being to serve the country and not to be served by it.
Posted by: Go Romney! | Jan 29, 2008 10:03:02 PM
I live in Florida panhandle. I think
what really did Rudy in was the N.Y. fireman really got their message about Rudy lying about the fireman's radio's
not working. Believe you me, I saw their
message a couple of times and their message came out LOUD and CLEAR. I really
wish RON PAUL did much better. He is the
best candidate for our country.

Yeah I wish every millionaire just wanted to serve the country. Like DuPont, Rockerfeller, Forbes and Bloomberg. You can't sit there and tell me this guy is doing this because he "loves America" He has virtually NO fundraising outside of his family's fortune. When you have to finance up to 100 million out of your own pocket, (Not to mention spend three times as much on advertising as your opponents)it PROVES that you cannnot accumulate so much as a trickle of popular support. If Mitt had to count on the support of regular Americans, and not his family's largesse, he would not even have gotten this far. Don't kid yourself.

Everyone of you complaining that the Liberals are taking over now knows how we felt when the Supreme Court choose George W Bush for President.

Romney vs Obama now thats a Race I'd like to see 2 "outsiders" its a wonder Mitt has done so well so far, and shows how great he really is. McCain is in the "club" thats why he will get endorsements, just like Hillary, he buys them and makes promises that are bad for America
