Michelle Obama Mispronounces Nevada
January 18, 2008 2:43 PM
ABC News' Sunlen Miller Reports: Ask a Nevadan: if you pronounce the name of their state wrong, they'll likely take it personally.
Such is the reaction Michelle Obama received when she took the stage at the University of Reno Friday and shouted that she was glad she was in Nevada. But she pronounced it Nuh –VAH –duh.
The audience gasped.
The local pronunciation is actually Nuh – VAD –uh.
Michelle Obama, wife of Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., held it together and quickly recovered from her mistake. She put both hands on her head and laughed at herself, repeating, "Nevada, Nevada, Nevada, Nevada," with the correct pronunciation.
"I've been in South Carolina too long," she joked. "I know how to bounce back from my mistakes."
Senator Obama took the stage shortly after, made no mention of his wife’s blunder, but made sure to pronounce the state’s name correctly. Michelle Obama introduces her husband at one other event today in Elko, Nevada today.
The safe Nuh-VAD-uh gambler would say that she'll be practicing her pronunciation on the plane ride over.

Ever heard of the town of Nevada, Missouri? It's pronounced Nuh-VAY-duh.
What do you expect when half of the people in Missouri can't even pronounce the name of their own state correctly.

Bush has not gone through a single speech without butchering entire statements and this is the story you report..

Bush has not gone through a single speech without butchering entire statements and this is the story you report. Remember the saying "Saddam killed Mandela," who could forget that.

ABC shame on you. Your slip is showing. I cannot believe the transparency of this newsworthy article. My goodness this is embarassing. Fair and balnced news. I think I will take a peek at FOX.
When you are desperate in times. She said Nevada wrong? OOOOOOO. I'm not voting for her. This is the worst piece of journalism I've ever seen.

It just proves that she's a Real Person!
Unlike the always scripted Clintons and their supporters!

I would like to know what she meant when she said " I've been in South Carolina too long." Anyone have an opinion on that?
