Obama Endorsed by Kerry in South Carolina
January 10, 2008 2:54 PM
ABC News' David Wright, Andy Fies, and Sunlen Miller Report: Clearly trying to recover form a post New Hampshire primary loss, Sen. Barack Obama brought Sen. John Kerry on stage in Charleston, South Carolina Thursday for a key endorsement from the 2004 Democratic nominee.
Kerry took credit at the top of his speech for "introducing Barack to the nation" when he asked Obama to speak at the 2004 Democratic National Convention.
He also mentioned that there were other candidates in the race "whom I have worked and whom I respect," and explained, "They are terrific public servants and each of them could be President tomorrow and each would fight to take the country in the right direction. But I believe that more than anyone else, Barack Obama can help our country turn the page."
In an ode to his own, bruising 2004 race against President George W. Bush, Kerry told the crowd, "I support [Obama] because he doesn’t seek to perfect the politics of Swift boating, but to end it."
Kerry opened up his endorsement summoning words from Martin Luther King, to show his support of the potential first African American president.
"Martin Luther King said 'the time is always right to do what is right.' And I'm here in South Carolina because this is the right time to share with you my confidence that the next President of the United States should be, can be, and will be Barack Obama."
Launching a preemptive defense of the experience issue, Kerry told the crowd, "Washington isn’t the only teacher –- and in recent years Washington, D.C. hasn't been the best teacher.
I support Barack Obama for President because he has the judgment to know that Washington must change, the character to have already fought to change it, and the best ability of anyone running to unite Americans in that cause. "
Citing the youth of American icon Thomas Jefferson and Martin Luther King, Kerry said that character and wisdom more important than years on the planet.
Obama took the stage and the two men, both clad in blue ties and dark suits embraced in a hug.
"I want to thank John Kerry for his support in this campaign," Obama said, "but more importantly for his service to the nation."
Obama delivered his stump speech, concluding with the new chant "Yes we can!" which debuted the night of the devastating New Hampshire primary loss.
With little over two weeks until the South Carolina primary, and nine days until Nevada caucus, Obama is balancing his time between the states, heading to Nevada tomorrow.

I live in Chicago. The Rezko thing is an old non-story. Here's the nutshell: Senator Obama paid full price (i.e. no discount) for a strip of land to add to his yard, purchasing it from Rezko. The deal was perfectly ethical, but Rezko himself is an unsavory character who has come under criminal investigation. Obama has admitted in retrospect that the deal was unwise because of how it could appear, even if the deal itself was above board.

Th Rezko trial will bring a lot of stuff out. Obama relationship with him go back 15 years ago. Is not eh deal on the house, that was the last one, the guys raised a lot of money for Obama and other politicians in Chicago and Illinois. He has been investigated for the Feds for many years and Obama knew about it.
As a resident of Illinois I have long been disgusted with the "under the table" corruption that runs RAMPANT here. What disgusts me even more is that when blatant evidence is exposed, the accused individual always finds a way to "make it go away". Chicago Mayor Daley is the chief source of most of the corruption in the state ("Operation Silver Shovel", etc.), but somehow he's always able to walk away with his hands clean. Oh, by the way, he's a big Obama supporter. Also, Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan (and current Illinois Democratic Party Chairman) was under investigation by the Feds. No problem. He and the Illinois Democratic Machine got Madigan's daughter elected Attorney General of Illinois. Gee, what ever happened to that investigation...........As far as the Rezko case, Obama is not the only one having a connection to Rezko. Rezko was a fundraiser and close friend of the current governor of Illinois, Rod Blagojevich - a governor who is also being investigated by the Feds for his own corrupt practices. (Ironically, Blagojevich came to power by vowing to clean up the corruption created by Republican Governor George Ryan.)Those of you who still aren't convinced that Barack Obama is yet another cog in the Illinois corruption machine should look up the Todd Stroger Cook County Board election scandal. Barack Obama unabashedly threw his full support to Todd Stroger despite the dubious way Stroger even got to become a cadidate. Why would Obama even endorse such shennanigans? I don't have enough time to go into this one, but trust me, it's a beauty. Look it up!Whether Obama himself is corrupt is yet to be determined, but his associations do cause alarm. Are these the same associations that would follow him to the White House? Obama is not "squeeky clean". We in Illinois know better.I will close by saying that I am not a Republican. I am not a Democrat. I have been forced into cynical independency from Illinois polititians that continue to disappoint
