Romney Says Viva Las Vegas!!!!

ABC News' John Berman, Ursula Fahy and Matt Stuart report: The Romney campaign seems to be hedging its bets on South Carolina.  Instead of an all-out push in the Palmetto State, former Gov. Mitt Romney, R-Mass., is planning a swing through Nevada for at least parts of two days, leading up to Jan. 19.  Romney will head to Nevada on Thursday, and stay there that night, leaving Sen. John McCain, D-Ariz., to fight with former Gov.Mike Huckabee, R-Ark., and former Sen. Fred Thompson, R-Tenn., in South Carolina.

Both South Carolina and Nevada hold contests on the 19th.  South Carolina has what is traditionally a very important, high-profile primary, and Nevada has an extremely under-the-radar caucus.

Romney has poured more resources into Nevada than any other candidate, and would seem a sure bet to win without a visit.  But the Romney campaign is clearly trying to send a not-so-subliminal message that they don’t care quite as much about South Carolina. If they lose there (and they are behind in most polls), the national media will not say they blew it in another state.

South Carolina is a tough state for Romney, with its large evangelical vote.  And even though he is backing off, he is not abandoning it completely.  The campaign started airing new television ads there today, and he will travel there for a bus tour on Wednesday.  The Romney camp believes it needs to maintain a presence there in order to stay on the radar of the national media (something former mayor Rudy Giuliani, R-N.Y., has had a tough time doing while sitting out some of the first contests).

But the trip to Nevada is a significant signal that this campaign is now about picking and choosing where to fight hard, and where to hardly fight.

"Sen. John McCain, D-Ariz"

Very funny. Not.

Haha that's funny! McCain might as well be a Democrat. Gleeful, stone-throwing little school-boy...

Romney's military advisor is Cofer Black, CEO of Blackwater USA. Blackwater just got a billion dollar contract to expand their operations HERE in the USA. I can't wait til these guys start patrolling OUR streets!!! (Just ask New Orleans how well that went!) Don't vote Romney, Giuliani, or warmongers McCain and Hilliary! Vote to bring the troops HOME!

The democrats are TERRIFIED of Romney. Clean as a whistle and brilliant! Unlike Hillary's scandals and Obamas drug use. we need a leader who will set a great example to our youth. AMERICA NEEDS MITT ROMNEY!

Re: Dan Lindsy
Please, having Mitt on the ticket is as sure a loss for Repubs. as having Hillary on the Dem. side. Anyone that goes up against those two will win. Even Mickey Mouse would win against those two. Keep dreaming Mitt and Hillary fans. Keep dreaming and reality will slap you hard in the face, to wake you out of your slumber.

Angie, you are sooo wrong! Mitt is honest and has NO skeletons like the others. Romney has the family values, integrity and brilliance America needs. Democrats have run 102 adds directly attacking Romney. 72 for Guliani and 4 against huckabee. who do you think the democrats are affraid of?

Gov.Mitt Romney is smart by going to Nevada. He needs a relief from the negative news media and another win. The name of the game is electoral votes. Romney is winning there even though I like Fred Thompson.

I'm anxious to see who Ron Paul tops Jan. 19th. In a caucus much depends on whose supporters are motivated to actually show up and put in the time. I don't see that much excitement and enthusiasm for the other candidates.

Finally Nevada and the West are getting the candidate respect they deserve through the attention of Mitt Romney. This race is different than those in the past in many ways and because of the shifting paradigmns of the voters South Carolina will only be important as the boneyard for McCain or Huckabee campaign. Meanwhile, the next president, Mitt R., is piling up the delegates.
