Romney Surrogate: 'This is 1976'

ABC News' John Berman Reports: Former Sen. Jim Talent, R-Mo., was speaking at a giant phone bank in Boston, trying to give a pep talk to supporters of former Gov. Mitt Romney, R-Mass.

He argued that this is a different type of campaign now. This isn't about Iowa and New Hampshire: "This is a delegate count."

Talent said, "This is 1976," meaning a long GOP brawl to the convention not seen since Gerald Ford edged out the Gipper -- Ronald Reagan -- over three decades ago.

After defeats in Iowa and New Hampshire scrapped Romney's early-state win strategy, his surrogates appear to be trying to steel his base of supporters for a much longer fight to the Republican convention.

Romney the Robot candidate. When he is rejected just remove that part and plug in another one in. He is a phony. Anyone can see He is not who He pretends to be.

McCain is a good honest man, but is out of touch with the Republican base.

Giuliani is a one issue candidate and to liberal for Republicans.

Huckabee will be the next President.

Ron Paul has the momentum and money

“Person of the Year: Ron Paul, the physician-politician. He injected the
Presidential campaign with a dose of truth serum. Paul’s straight talk on
Iraq, and his straight talk on the Constitution, as Buchanan pointed out,
and the limits of government have made him an Internet phenomena. In fact,
Paul has become an independent force in the nation’s life.”
