Romney's Millions Continue to Fund Campaign

ABC News' John Berman Reports: Mitt Romney continues to pour millions into his bid for the White House but refuses to say how much.

Speaking to reporters in Johnston, Iowa, Romney, R-Mass., acknowledged he is "sure" he has put more of his own personal wealth into his campaign but would not provide an exact figure.

In the first nine months of 2007, Romney, who made a fortune in private business, contributed roughly $17 million dollars to his own campaign. He has spent at least $7 million of that figure in Iowa on a massive media campaign that includes a barrage of attack ads against his chief rival, former governor Mike Huckabee, R-Ark.

Eric Fehrnstrom, a Romney spokesperson, claims the former Massachusetts governor "does not know how much" he gave in the last three months of the year.

The fourth and final quarter of 2007 ended on December 31 but candidates are not required to disclose  contributions -- including their own -- until the end of January 2008.

Romney's fortune is estimated at about $250 million dollars. Although the details of a national campaign might reasonably escape a candidate, the claim that Romney would not know how many millions of he gave from his own pocket, does raise questions, especially considering his reputation as a meticulous businessman.

Has everyone seen how Rush Limbaugh has a new section of his website praising Mitt Romney? Coming endorsment?

If the country wants 4 more years of the Bush Administration, just vote for Mitt Romney.

Mitt Romney is the Blackwater csndidate, so he will continue and accelerate the Unted States' sad vicious decline into totalitarianism and fascism.

Mitt Romney will be one of the Greatest Presidents of all time. The next 10 years will determine the weather or not we survive as a country and he is the man we need to help us survive.

We have the ubiquitous Provo writer, prising Brother Romney.

Rush Limbaugh told his flock to vote for Bush. Not all people, have the ability to learn from being taken for a ride. Rush, the draft dodging addict, speaks of war and morality for his thongs.

We have reborn conservative Mitt who holds on to the highest republican value: the deep belief that anything can be bought for the right price.

The question becomes: when will the majority of Americans reject these ideas and stop being lead like stupid sheep?

Just read David Brooks' republican editorial in today's online New York Times. He says Romney could win the Republican nomination and that if that happens it would seal a Democratic win for the democrats. Romney is THE flip flopper of all time. I pray either he or Huck is the republican nominee.

Mitt Phoney would be easy pickings for the Democrats to take apart in the general election. As much as people may hate Hillary it is hard to deny that Mitt lies cleanly out of his mouth. Who would rather vote for, a lying Republican or a truthful Democrat?

I find it hard to believe what kind of morality he practices. I wonder if this man can pause for one second and look at his actions. What is he trying to conquer and what cost? He sure talks a lot about God. I hope God is not is as bad as this man is if there is a God. He is on a stupid adventure to conquer the whitehouse at any cost. I am sure he will do anything and say anything to get to the Whitehouse. I definitely think this moron sure lacks the most basic common sense and least bit of moral values.

Republicans simply do not want to allow for democracy in America. They are not the Party of our founding fathers, a democratic voice. If they had their way, they would replace all of the voting paper ballots in the country with machines that they could easily commit fraud ... change the numbers for their Republican candidate ... for the purpose of controlling our majority vote for perpetual war and conquest.

The biggest different I see between Romney and Bush is competence. I'm not so sure how much of a difference there is on positions...

If he can't buy his way into the White House, I sure God won't let him buy his way into heaven!

So remind me again how anyone can buy the Presidency? For anyone to presume that he could needs a lesson in the electoral process. Ross Perot couldn't do it and neither can Bloomberg. Perhaps those that are saying that he could are just full of FUD and can’t fathom that the general population is smart enough to see through such nonsense.

I say more power to anyone that is willing to sacrifice there life or livelihood in their effort to contribute to the good welfare of the United States. Our soldiers put their very life on the line for liberty of every American. The other candidates are promoting their on narrow interest and have shown their contempt for others. Romney will respect and honor all citizens regardless of faith, race, or national origin. And if Mitt is willing to sacrifice what he has for America then every sound minded American should cheer him on.

No common person could ever possibly be elected President in this country let alone even come close to running a campaign. This is the problem with politics in our country. It is a game solely for the rich. The majority are not invited to play. True campaign finance reform would permit all candidates the same amount of money and air time etc and no-one would be permitted to spend their own money. Then and only then would we really get politicians who care about America instead of their own power and wealth.

Wow! Imagine a general election where we would have to have run-off elections because there would be so many candidates that none would get enough electoral votes to win. Another problem is that anyone with integrity and sincerity would be considered too good to be true and end up being demonized by special interest groups; as if that isn't already happening. We cannot and should not rely upon what one candidate says about another or what vitriol groups have to say about a candidate. Unfortunately there are no organizations or media that is or can be neutral enough to be a clearing house on facts and truths about candidates. Again, if there were such groups they would be demonized by special interest groups. So we have what we have. No wonder voters are told to vote their conscience. Unfortunately it is becoming evident that many voters no longer have one.

Mitt would make a great president. I believe he is the only candidate that has the skills and experience to make a positive change to america. As far as the Democratic candidates, they want to make a change towards the socialistic european nations. We're better than that.

I'm voting for Mitt.

next thing you know, you'll be asking for the "speculative masons"; after all the trouble in the world, why would anyone still want to carry a "red flag"?Vote the issues and maybe you'll learn something about the GOP. 'humanitarianism' is #1 and we don't need a "party" system to divide us anymore! how about 'social classes' working together with safety and respect for life, all life, every life!! save our children, vote for 'values' not valuables!!

Posted by: gwenn | Jan 2, 2008 5:15:40 AM

Romney is savvy enough to know that Americans aren't smart enough to elect Presidents because of their qualifications... they vote because the richest candidate bought enough slick ads so that the average dumbed-down American voter can look at the ballot and say "Duh... I know dat guy." There's no other explanation for 20 years of the Bush and Clinton families in the White House.

Posted by: Dutch | Jan 2, 2008 8:12:06 AM

I can't imagine why ANYONE, democrat or republican would vote for this guy. Talk about a phony. My lord folks, open your eyes. He'll say "anything" to get elected and he's flipped flopped on virtually every issue out there. He'd be just another corporatist president that would continue to screw the middle class. I can't even fathom how a regular person would think about supporting this creep. It boggles the mind. I mean, if you are a millionaire, I get it, he's one of the guys... but a regular working american? There is no explanation.

Posted by: atlantachick | Jan 2, 2008 8:40:10 AM

That is so sad indeed. Bloggers are blogging for their candidate saying that they need money to convince the voters that "aren't smart enough" to elect a President based on his merits. Which candidate are they blogging for? Apparently those that say Romney is a phony need more money for FUD to convince the “not so smart” voters to vote for their candidate. That kind of junk doesn’t foster any hope and prospect for a healthy future of America. Too bad that same mentality is destroying the infrastructure and civility of other countries. We shouldn’t promote that in the United States.
