Romney's Millions Continue to Fund Campaign

ABC News' John Berman Reports: Mitt Romney continues to pour millions into his bid for the White House but refuses to say how much.

Speaking to reporters in Johnston, Iowa, Romney, R-Mass., acknowledged he is "sure" he has put more of his own personal wealth into his campaign but would not provide an exact figure.

In the first nine months of 2007, Romney, who made a fortune in private business, contributed roughly $17 million dollars to his own campaign. He has spent at least $7 million of that figure in Iowa on a massive media campaign that includes a barrage of attack ads against his chief rival, former governor Mike Huckabee, R-Ark.

Eric Fehrnstrom, a Romney spokesperson, claims the former Massachusetts governor "does not know how much" he gave in the last three months of the year.

The fourth and final quarter of 2007 ended on December 31 but candidates are not required to disclose  contributions -- including their own -- until the end of January 2008.

Romney's fortune is estimated at about $250 million dollars. Although the details of a national campaign might reasonably escape a candidate, the claim that Romney would not know how many millions of he gave from his own pocket, does raise questions, especially considering his reputation as a meticulous businessman.

1) I FIND IT DIFFICULT TO BELIEVE ANY SHREWD BUSINESSMAN IS GOING TO SPEND THAT PORTION OF HIS FORTUNE WITHOUT THE PROSPECT OF MAKING MUCH MORE AS PRESIDENT.
2) GIVEN THE HUGE NUMBER OF FLAWED CASES, DNA EXONERATIONS, ETC., ONE COULD FIND IT UNCONSCIOUNABLE, SELF-RIGHTEOUS AND CRUEL FOR A GOVERNOR TO BRAG ABOUT HAVING NEVER PARDONED A SINGLE PERSON!
3) CAN'T GET OVER THE STORY ABOUT HOW HE ALLEGEDLY TREATED THE POOR FAMILY DOG...

"Huckabee, who raised $764,000 for his presidential campaign from April through June and had $437,000 cash on hand at the end of last month, called his campaign operation frugal compared to his opponents."

"Mike Huckabee is taking new steps to save money, including no longer scheduling planes and buses for journalists trying to cover his presidential campaign.

'A 50-seat plane for 15 people doesn't make sense,' Huckabee said.

Huckabee said he will continue to campaign in Florida on a shoestring budget!"

hmmm?
my personal opinion:

i do not know why the voting public votes for 'cain & romney.

they hemorrhage their donations...AND own fortunes...by the multimillions!!

this year, people say the #1 issue is the economy, right?

well, i want someone who will look out for MY money as good as he does his own...that leaves out almost all the candidates.

if allowed to, i think romney would bleed us all dry!

BUT LOOK AT HUCKABEE!!!!

he has spent hardly anything comparatively, yet he WINS so many states!!

i choose my candidates carefully, and this is just one more reason he's got MY vote. WASHINGTONIANS, vote in the primary on the 19th for less taxes.

show up at the caucus on Saturday for Huckabee.

dare to be different!
