Spin Room Paul Says Talk of Inflation Is a "Bold Step" for Other Candidates

January 05, 2008 11:12 PM

ABC's Z. Byron Wolf reports: Ron Paul was the only Republican debate participant to personally grace the spin room at the ABC News / Facebook / WMUR debate (at least when this reporter was present). As such, he was mobbed by reporters and TV cameras, still photographers and radio microphones.

He seemed to relish the attention, and said, if nothing else, he has brought the field incrementally toward his way of thinking in some important respects.

"If you listen carefully, you hear some of the language out there of some of the things I have been talking about," Paul said. A reporter asked him about the sniggers that seemed to bubble up around him from other candidates during the debate, when he talked about the gold standard.

"Well, I have a little more educating to do on that," Paul said. "They talk now about inflation. That was a great step, but they have to understand that it is the falling dollar that is the inflation. So, they've taken one bold step, and I think they're understanding that better," he argued. "But the American people understand it, the crowds I talk to understand it, but you have to go back to what I said about [how] the price of oil is steady in the last ten years, in terms of gold, and if gold were money, the price would not have gone up."

Despite any baby steps Paul sees in campaign rhetoric, there remain enormous differences between his pure, libertarian-style Republicanism, and every other candidate.

"It's not me being disconnected from our colleagues as much as it is them being disconnected from our platform," he said, starting to spin (metaphorically).

One thing he does not have to spin is how long he can stay In the race.

"I am in it as long as my supporters want me to be in it, and they finance the campaign, and they do that all spontaneously," he said, not overtly mentioning the $20 million his supporters donated in the final quarter of 2007, but making it clear he has political capital in a very literal sense.

"Their enthusiasm is growing every day, so now we just have to get FOX to let me in their debate so I can get that message out," he said, overtly alluding to a FOX News forum to be held here in New Hampshire tomorrow. Paul has been excluded for not polling at 10 percent support among Republicans, nationally.

Instead, he'll pay to produce a live town hall meeting of his own on public access in New Hampshire and the Internet worldwide.

Go get them Ron Paul. He is about as smart as they come. And that is so wanderful especially after the last seven years. I would love to see Ron Paul debate G. W. Bush.

Posted by: Sharon Meckley | Jan 6, 2008 12:05:02 AM

Hahaha Ron is the man He made them all look like idiots when they talked about inflation. We will never support those corporate bought pigs. It does not take much intelligence to figure out the price of gold stays at a constant level and You can measure the strength of the dollar in reference to the price of gold. Notice how the other republicans tried to say the price of gas was due to supply and demand while Paul pulled out real numbers to support his arguement. There is only one economist running and the is Ron Paul and guess what there is only one doctor running also.

Thank you for this most wonderful commentary. Ron Paul has got me so interested in Jefforson and Madisin aslo economics.. I have been just eating it up.. I truely have awakend and because of this my friend Dave is doing the same.. we are reading as much about these topics as possable..

Today I was reading about Jefferson and relized that Paul is a lot like him in theory. And the Other republicans are kind of like Corporate Fedralists. Anyay thanks again.

The snickering heard tonight when Ron Paul spoke on our foreign policy of intervention were the result of the "IGNORANCE" on the part of the other debate participants.. period!
The CIA in a press conference last month acknowledged that Ron Paul was the ONLY Presidential Candidate who got it right when it came to the reasoning for the US to be the target for attacks from "extremist". They attack us because we are "Free", Yeah Right! !
Senator Thompson's lack of under-standing on the causes of inflation by the Federal Reserve's over printing of dollars, relative to their value, only showed his and the other candidates lack of understanding on that subject. A subject that continues to be misunderstood by most and ignored (at our peril) by the rest of the canditates. It's about the CONSTITUTION ! ! !

Posted by: Jim Doolittle | Jan 6, 2008 12:13:19 AM

Ron Paul all the way!

Give me liberty or give me death.

Posted by: Brad | Jan 6, 2008 12:20:48 AM

In terms of substantive content, Ron Paul blew away the other candidates, no question. While the others argue the same old tired rhetoric, Ron Paul gets to the root of our many problems. We could bring our troops home from Iraq and secure our borders in a matter of months and use the money we'd save to really do something about our health care issue. Inflation is largely the cause of rising oil prices ... that and the fact that we are invading and threatening to invade some of the primary oil producing nations. The other candidates snicker because they don't even get it.

Posted by: David DeChambeau | Jan 6, 2008 12:27:28 AM

I too noticed that the other candidates are suddenly starting to *steal* some of Ron Paul's ideas and language. It makes me angry but I suppose it's a good thing overall. I just hope the american people can see through the bad politics going on and cast their vote for Ron Paul!

Posted by: Craig | Jan 6, 2008 12:30:56 AM

Oh yes...and the snickering from other candidates when Ron Paul speaks is childish and manipulative. Dr. Paul deserves more respect than anyone else on that stage.

Posted by: Craig | Jan 6, 2008 12:34:47 AM

For educated people watching this debate, the only candidate worth backing is Ron Paul. Terrorism is nothing compared to what runaway Inflation will do to this country. The Western Roman Empire crumbled not becuase of barbarians but becuase of rampant and ongoing inflation. People need to realize this fact and understand that history repeats itself.

GO RON PAUL! the only candidate who is smart about what's going on in this country. His answers were intelligent. He did an excellent job tonight!

My vote goes to Ron Paul!

Is this real? Let me pinch myself. This is the first post-debate ABC coverage I've seen of Ron Paul.

Posted by: BZ Smith | Jan 6, 2008 1:10:43 AM

I hate to say it but Ron Paul needs to start attacking the other Repubican candidates. The candidates have lost all sense of what a debate really is about. Therefore, dare I say, Ron Paul must also lower himself to their level or his message will never stick. Tonight these candidates were suppose to exchange ideas. Instead every candidate besides Ron Paul just attacked one another. Ron Paul has to start belittling all the other Republican candidates on how uneducated they really are in regards to foreign policy and monetary policy. Americans have to realize how stupid the other candidates really are.

Ron Paul is the only candidate for REAL change. He is also the only candidate who takes his oath of office seriously. The rest would just mouth the words and continue with business as usual.

Posted by: DD | Jan 6, 2008 1:28:12 AM

At last a U.S. Presidential candidate who has integrity as opposed to a large dollop of narcissism. I'm part of that odd population called "the rest of the world"(New Zealand) What Ron Paul says is what the "rest of the world" has been aware of for years.
Guess who we're frightened of? You got it ...the Americans!!! Wake up America. i've got a grandchild i want a future for!

Posted by: annie macgregor | Jan 6, 2008 1:29:43 AM

All the laughing and snickering by the other candidates directed toward Paul while he was speaking really turned me off from the others. While it was going on i was wondering if they really think the issues being discussed are FUNNY to them. I guess the rest of the candidates think they can LAUGH theirselves all the way to the White House.

I'm not a Republican anymore...I'm a Re-Paul-ican!

Posted by: Trevor | Jan 6, 2008 1:30:35 AM

Ron Paul really deserves his own miniseries as his platform is deep, deep, deep, and does not play well in the shallow water of these debates, which is a shame. Nonetheless, he scored some great points tonight, and chief among these was his explanation of fuel prices that left poor Fred as stunned as a sledgehammered ox.

This inflation is brought to you courtesy of the Federal Reserve, a privately owned (nobody's exactly sure by whom) banking group. The Fed gleefully prints money as fast as the politicians are willing to spend it, and charges interest on it, to boot. Because of imports of oil and consumer goods, these dollars have been spread all over the globe. This was good for many years as the dollar became the preeminent world currency. Unfortunately, the world is now saturated with greenbacks and the printing press is now causing old-fashioned inflation.

Every time the Fed creates money, it takes away from the value of your savings, and your paycheck. It is a form of taxation because it takes away from you and gives to the federal government. And what's worse, it has to be paid back to the Fed some day.

So, the "richest and most powerful nation on earth" can afford ANYTHING. An expensive war against an ill-defined enemy? Go for it! Free health care? Why not? Let's have another drink and keep on dancing. Truly, our leaders are as irresponsible as a high school kid with a $20,000 MasterCard. We MUST listen to what Ron Paul is trying to tell us.

If we don't elect him, we don't deserve him. It's that simple.

Posted by: Pete | Jan 6, 2008 1:31:38 AM

Charlie: goes down the line of candidates and has critizism for each about flip-flopping and inconsistancy. Then he comes to Ron Paul and says "Your party changed, not you". Another great moment Charlie: Asks any candidate to truthfully tell the American people why we are in this mess.Pause...pause...First to raise hie hand and tight camera shot RON PAUL lays down the law and nobody can rebut it. Ron "Sure you all talk about the constitution but we have not follwed it since Korea" thus our foriegn policy mess. nuff said, the man is a prophet.

Posted by: Scott Swanson | Jan 6, 2008 1:56:33 AM

What a debate!! Ron Paul is way to smart to compete with the other fools.Poor Mr. Fred, too ignorant to know what our fake money is all about. How low and childish of them to snicker at Mr. Ron Paul. If we want our great country back, our only hope is Ron Paul. I homeschool my children and over my dead body would they ever attend a corrupt, brained washed, government, public school.

THANK YOU RON PAUL!! RON PAUL NEEDS TO HAVE A DOMESTIC TV AD THAT SAYS: AMERICA IF YOU WANT REAL CHANGE IN EVERY RESPECT AND WANT TO GET BACK TO THE CONSTITUTION and LIFE, LOVE AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS THEN VOTE RON PAUL. SPREAD THE WORD, ESPECIALLY TO ALL THE STATES WHO HAVE THEIR PRIMARY ON FEB 5th.

Posted by: Bryan D | Jan 6, 2008 2:15:17 AM

Ron Paul sees the CAUSE of many of our nations problems and tells the public what they are. Other candidates confuse issues by looking at EFFECTS rather than CAUSES. To fix almost any issue you have to go after the CAUSE of it.

Posted by: Cause then Effect Not the Other Way Around | Jan 6, 2008 2:33:45 AM

I wonder what is actually going through the other candidates minds...
How can they actually think they can win the presidency with the type of foreign policies they have??
Sure they just might get the parties bid to run but let's be realistic here. 70 percent of the voters they need are against their foreign policies and America's foreign policy is a big subject in the upcoming election.

If you love Ron Paul like I do then you know Ron Paul's views on Gold and Monetary Policy. You also know we need to raise more money for Ron Paul. We need another Money Bomb in January especially before the 5th of February.

I see one key date coming in the next few weeks that is our obvious candidate just as Ron Paul is our most obvious candidate. January 24th, according to http://americanhistory.about.com/od/todayinamericanhistory/p/th_0124x.htm, James Marshall discovered Gold in California, thus starting the California Gold Rush.

Americans have stated that the topic they want more politicians to talk about is the Economy. Who better to do that than Dr. Paul, the only candidate with a real viable plan based on the constitution and basic economic principles. I have a degree in Economics, so I find myself qualified to endorse Dr. Paul on this one.

Just like James Marshall discovering Gold; I think all of us who support Ron Paul feel that we have struck the proverbial "Gold" with Ron Paul. Amongst all the candidates Ron Paul continues to shine through consistent, polished and respectful of what it means to be the President of the United States.

Spread the word in everyway possible for January 24th, the third and most critical money bomb to date. January 24th, "The Ron Paul Gold Rush."

The goal, the biggest in history, 15 million in one day. 150,000 people giving 100$. We can do this we can shatter the records, we can shatter the stranglehold this government and media has on this nation. Spread the words of Freedom and Liberty!!!

Lets mark January 24th as a new story in American History, "The Ron Paul Gold Rush." The day America changed the landscape of its politcs back towards the Consititution.

Thank you.

thanks for some honest coverage, I am glad people are starting to see how Dr. Paul makes the other candidates look like 3 graders on every stance.

All the economic indicators are looking very grim and many economists are stating we will be in a full recession starting in 2009 as the downturn has begun in earnest. Ron Paul is the only candidate from either party with the expertise of how deeply monetary policy affects a wide range of our nations ills and his explanation of this in tonights debate was honest and brilliant. This man absolutely needs to be our President as his grasp of the issues is second to none!

Posted by: Vincent Mross | Jan 6, 2008 3:30:03 AM

From the FaceBook polls tonight.

Which Republican candidate appeared the most "Presidential" during the debate?

Ron Paul 41%

Do we need to maintain high troop levels in Iraq until they have a stable, effective government?

No (Ron Paul is the only Republican who thinks this...) 63%

Has the War on Terror made America more or less safe from terrorist attack?

America is less safe 55%

What should happen to U.S. troop levels in Iraq?

Withdraw troops as fast as possible starting now 46%

Ron Paul won this debate.

To be fair & balanced.
He disagrees with the polls regarding:
* Most want government-sponsored universal health care. (He has the only correct health care answer and it involves the government getting completely out of health care except for veterans.)
* Most want more gun controls. (Ron Paul would like to remove some existing controls, since areas with armed citizens have less crime and violence.)

May the LORD grant us a leader in Ron Paul! May HE have mercy on this nation of ours and spare us from the peril that is due us all for our disobedience. If Ron Paul does not get elected, you can know that judgment is coming to this nation. We need to be on our knees praying that the Lord would have mercy on us all and grant us an ABLE leader like Ron Paul.

Ron Paul is right on some issues, but his idea of limited government is out of place now. He might be the man for the job though since he would veto pork that the two parties try get. Also with him as president, a viable third party might emerge that would break the duopoly currently in place.

Posted by: John Tighe | Jan 6, 2008 4:13:44 AM

Paul was certainly that most specifics oriented candidate (both Dem and Rep). He is a rarity amongst the current Republican crop in that he is a pragmatist and constitutionalist. Dr. Paul does not use nationalism as a tool for manipulation, and has the audacity to appeal to the conscience of the constituency with the use of historical precedent. Curiously, I'm opposed to his domestic agenda, but seduced by his courage and character.

Posted by: Hernan Tasies | Jan 6, 2008 4:23:36 AM

Excluding Ron Paul, all of the GOP candidates are "backbenchers", witness the low turn-out of GOP voters in the Iowa caucus. Even the second tier of the Democratic Party's candidates could win against the weak choices on the Republican's slate.

Posted by: John Tighe | Jan 6, 2008 4:28:35 AM

I'm sure that while the other candidates are sneering and snickering at Ron Paul they're also wondering what catch phrases they can steal from him to boost their own campaigns.

Of course Dr. Paul is aware that some of his phrases and ideas have already been lifted from him by the other candidates. But he's too much of a kind and decent gentlemen to level any overt accusations of blatant plagiarism (and there have certainly been some).

In all my life I've never seen someone inspire such fiercely loyal and dedicated supporters as Ron Paul has and the momentum is still snowballing. He's miles above the other candidates in intellect, honesty and knowledge of economics, health care and foreign policy.

He is a true original. As has been predicted elsewhere, he will be the last man standing when everyone else has fallen by the wayside, tripped up by their own doublespeak and skeletons.

Oh, like I said, I kinda like Ron Paul, but some of you guys like him a little too much. That scares me.

Posted by: John Tighe | Jan 6, 2008 4:32:33 AM

The political season started early this time around, I had a feeling it would be scrappy, the democrats wanted blood and the republicans seemed uninterested and uninteresting, I felt that this time around there would be a big fight, I had been getting the feeling that the elections are seeming to be more and more rigged, with both sides just tag teaming Americans for the corporate buck, feeling smaller and like there was nothing to be done, I perused the republican candidates, seeing none really interesting, I thought Thompson would make a good one, Romney was seeming kinda interesting, but Giuliani and McCain were to much for war, being tired of war and wanting a quiet break I looked deeper into the field, the democrats had a guy that seemed interesting this Obama guy, a short timer senator who kinda seemed a little fake but likable, anybody but Hillary right, there were a few guys down the way that had little chance of getting in but had some good ideas, some guy talking about the constitution and some other guy blabbering about some other stuff, but the constitution guy got my attention, but he had little coverage and the media was trying hard to focus on the guys they wanted in, the fourth branch of government the media was pushing harder and harder for their corporate sponsors, the big money was running the world through their corporate fronts, buying the politicians like cakes in a bakery, if the cake didn’t vote the way they wanted they pulled the money, a good reason to do as your told right. It really was time for a change, if it wasn’t too late, never give up hope as long as you have a breath to live.
Ron Paul was chattering on about his political views and so I went to his web site, which seemed kind of plain so me I didn’t go much farther with it, till later when he wouldn’t go away so I went back to his web site, still the same, but now I went a little further and found the
Ron Paul forum site, and started to learn more, I started making a few posts and commenting at the site, now I’m hooked.
There isn’t much time left, the storm troopers are at the gates, we must act now to save freedom, to save our future..
Ron Paul an American modeled after our founders..

Nah, just kidding. I only wanted to break the monotony. ;-)

Actually I thought this was a very good debate, probably the best yet. Actual interchange, serious questions, everybody got about the same opportunities to talk... good job, ABC. As a RP supporter, I was annoyed by your omission of him in your report on Iowa results, but of course it's also partially my responsibility to get a higher turnout for him so he's in the top few slots, so I won't prattle on about that.

RP 08 FTW

Posted by: Jamie Jackson | Jan 6, 2008 7:55:41 AM

It's good to see Dr. Paul getting into the post-debate analysis. Before he has often gotten the short shrift, and even though the minor squabble between Romney and Huckabee is getting the headlines instead of the protracted debate in which Ron Paul took on every single other candidate on foreign policy and didn't back down but still managed to get his points across clearly, reasonable, and tactfully. Oh well. MSM is so out of touch with reality that any small snipet like this is worth praising. It's like teaching a puppy to learn how to sit: you have to give it a lot of treats before it starts making the connection.

“if gold were money, the oil price would not have gone up!"
The issues that were not address at the debate: The National debt, earmarks of billions of dollars
such as “bridge to nowhere”, wasts of over 19 billions of dollars in aircraft parts , Filling the banks
coffers by 100 billions dollars, Confiscation by a printing press, Failing to abide and enforce the
constitution, approving laws without reading, denying other political parties to participate in the
process, Corrupt justice system, denying the people to “express their will” on all major issues
[wars, laws, economy, earmarks, health care etc.], Loss of civil liberties “unreasonable search”,
“the front doors of the courthouse will have an X-ray machine. Visitors will not be allowed to
pass the checkpoint”!
“We are not moving toward Hitler-type fascism, but we're moving toward a softer
fascism. Loss of freedom civil liberties...” “unreasonable search” is a fascism.
Building securities walls is a communism. It is a reminder of “Mr. Gorbacev take that

Thank you for your coverage of Ron Paul. While I do not agree with his entire platform, I know that he is the only candidate not bought-and-paid-for and he will do what he promises. Getting back our freedom is issue number one and all the other candidates (on both sides) just want to fearmonger us into submitting to tyranny. Paul is the only one who can get his point across without resorting to the cheap tricks of using 9/11 or AlQaida as subtle threats. He has a real message and does not need props and cheap theatrics like the others. He also has a proven record. When they asked the question about underlying principles, all the other candidates danced around it. Thats because they don't have any. Ron Paul is Hope For America.

Posted by: Samantha G. | Jan 6, 2008 8:42:46 AM

I noticed that the other candidates are using Dr. Paul's campaign platform. Why? Because they are recognizing that the American people are reacting to the freedom message.

Posted by: Doreen Johnson | Jan 6, 2008 8:45:06 AM

Thank you for the positive coverage of Ron Paul. I think GWB has made it impossible for a Republican to win this year (even though RP is no neocon) but Ron Paul's message needs to be heard. Look what an impact he's had on the rhetoric already! Let's hear more from this intellectual and patriotic statesman.

Dr. Paul was the only intelligent candidate up there. He is the only one who really understands economics and foreign policy. The others really made themselves look bad, especially McCain - by laughing, snickering, and making faces like a but of pre-schoolers. My God, these men want to run for PRESIDENT?

BTW - Dr. Paul won the ABC/FACEBOOK POST DEBATE POLL BY A LANDSLIDE.

PRESIDENTIAL RON PAUL!!!

Posted by: Dina | Jan 6, 2008 8:56:27 AM

Ron Paul is the only candidate with the intelligence and integrity to address the most critical issue we face: the collapse of the dollar due to decades of irresponsible deficit spending. The other candidates would rather pretend it isn't happening. As Dr. Paul himself has pointed out, "this is how all empires end" and our fate will be no different, unless we elect Ron Paul.

Shame on ABC for putting the camera on the snickering smirking baffoons when the good Dr. was speeking.

Rudy showed his ignorance of foreign policy history again with the comments on the Munich terrorist attacks and attacks before 9/11. We have been meddling in the middle east since 1952 and there have been terror attacks on Americans since 1952. Co-incidence?
Munich was an attack on Jews and other European attacks were on countries that have interviened in the middle east.

Terrorist have never attacked Switzerland and never will. Canada may get one since then support our foreing policy. All countries that support our forieng policy are fair game to terrorist.

Regardless, it would do all the other candidates good to visit the Ludwig Von Mises Institute and actually learn how our monetary system works and why it will ultimately fail us.

Inflation... It does exist. Unfortunately our government chooses to exclude necessities like food and energy from their skewed calculation thus disguising the elephant in the room. Oil prices have had an effect on inflation but there are several other more influential factors. The Fed has been no help in this area. One factor that no one seems to notice is the effect that lowering the prime rate has had on the price of homes. While this allowed the housing industry to flourish as well as all of its subsidiary branches.. banks..lumber..real estate..etc. It has caused the price of homes to escalate at an unprecedented rate simply due to the amount that a family could afford. While it appears that this lowering of interest helped Americans for the most part it helped those most who owned the real estate as an investment. It helped the banks. Look at all the banks popping up around your area.
We are seeing the beginning phases of the fallout as rising energy prices begin to place the people, who may have over extended themselves, in a very precarious situation. Government bail outs are not helping the people in this situation but simply protecting the investors interests.
We may be coming up upon harsh economic times and we need someone on our side who understands real economic principals. We need a President who will lead us towards a prosperous future which will require harsh truths during hard times.
I hope this country realizes how lucky and fortunate we are to have a candidate the likes of Dr. Ron Paul. I certainly have hope that no matter what lies ahead that Dr. Paul could be there to lead us through it.
A good man... A good American... A leader

Wow, the others seemed like buffoons, unable to understand or ignoring inflation, blowback(Guiliani is bizarre). McCain is a dinosaur. Lying about the immigration bill. With these clowns in power the terrorist simply have to sit back and let us kill ourselves thru bankruptcy. Its a brilliant plan, bog us down for years and let us shoot ourselves in the foot chasing a few thousand Al Queada for 10 years. IDIOTS!

Ron Paul did more than campaign for himself in the debate last night. And the groundswell of support for Ron Paul is about more than Ron Paul being elected president. It is about Americans like myself opening their eyes to see that this nation is quickly becoming the "USA in name only".
If a war if Iraq is necessary, we must demand that congress pass a formal Declaration of War. If we must send troops in pursuit of terrorists (which we must) then congress must pass a Letter of Marque and Reprisal against those terrorsits. Our money, according to the constitution, is to be COINED under authority of congress, not printed on paper, and only GOLD and SILVER may be used as legal tender, not paper. And any power not specifically given to the federal government MUST be left to the States or the People, as per the 10th Amendment. Those are just a few highlights of ways we are currently violating our own constitution.
Finally, a challenge to all Americans who are able: READ THE CONSTITUTION! We can not obey it if we do not know what it says.

Ron Paul was the only candidate that carried himself with dignity throughout the entire debate. He took to heart the seriousness of the issues confronting the American people, unlike the other candidates who continually snickered and sneered at the issues.

Ron Paul is in touch with this people of this country and the issues facing all of us and is truly the best choice for America.

I had thought throughout this race that I could only support a Democratic candidate but after watching the debate last night I am rethinking that position. Ron Paul seems to be the only candidate with a real understanding of our Constitution and what is really necessary to change this country. I found the fact that the other candidates particularly Thompson laughed at him even more illustrative of exactly why before I refused to even think about voting for a Republican. I just hope he gets exposure instead of being swept to the side by the media and the political powers that be. I think they are terrified of him and rightfully so. He represents real change and returning to real Democracy. I also noticed that Charlie Gibson pointed out he was the only candidate that hasn't "flip-flopped" on any of the issues but of course this didn't get any press!

No other Presidential candidate is proposing to fix our money, essentially zero inflation. Inflation is a huge hidden tax, essentially taking the value of your money right out of your bank account, and slowly converting every bit of property back into taxable income when you sell it. When the value of the dollar drops 50%, and you sell your house for 100% more than you paid for it, profit that must be reported as income is due to inflation, not an increase in value of your house. You are just paying income tax on inflation, but you get to tell all your friends what a great profit you made. Go figure.

These people snigger out of ignorance. They think they live in a free society because they get to vote every 4 years.

The revolution is coming, strap on your seat belts little brains, there are things happening you clearly don't have the capacity to understand.

MAKE THE DOLLAR AS GOOD AS GOLD!

As usual dr.paul wiped the floor with the other candidates with his wisdom and common sense and his understanding of monetary and foreign policy.
Dr. Paul is a statesman - NOT a politician. That is the difference between he and all the rest.
He was briliant tonight as usual and the rest of the bunch, as usual show their ignorance.
President Paul sounds darn good to me!

RP is the only candidate that has a real understanding of the problems that we face today.GO RP

This is good. A night of talking heads trying to outdo each other on who is the best for leading the warfare/welfare state. Saw that last nights debate.

Then the dem talking heads trying to outdo each other for the healthcare/welfare state.

So, yes fox exclude Ron Paul, we don't want anybody using reason and logic to govern America. America's change candidates on fox tonight. Americans are so gullible it's pathetic. What a joke we have become as a nation.

LAUGHING ABOUT TERRORISM? PATHETIC
Most debates have 2 different sides, when Paul discussed the foreign policy and other candidates laughed at him he should have told them: "OUR NATIONAL SECURITY IS NOT A LAUGHING MATTER!" But Ron Paul is too polite.

Posted by: Paul | Jan 6, 2008 10:25:03 AM

Ron Paul has more wisdom and integrity than the rest of the candidates combined. We are truly fortunate that he is resolved to campaign, to spread the truth of constitutional government to the people. The truth will get out, regardless of the media elite's efforts to squelch it. Let freedom ring!

Sarcasim. Ron Paul nailed it, thats the point.

Posted by: Todd Schuller | Jan 6, 2008 10:29:53 AM

When Paul was talking about inflation you could just about see the smoke coming out Fred's ears. Paul was very gracious witgh his comment.
The others knew better than to weigh in that one for fear of getting spanked big time and showing the country how ignorant they are.
The fear technique used by McCain, Romney and Giuliani is just not working so well anymore. People I think are starting to get tired of the Muslim boogeymen, SPECTRE and Blofeld, oops I me Al Qaeda and bin Laden are gonna come and drink your blood while you sleep then bomb your local WalMart.
The whole thing reminds me of the movie The Village, by M. Night Shyamalan. A fake monster to keep the people scared and in line.

The key in understanding Ron Paul is libertarian political philosophy, and austrian economics.

Without being familiar with austrian economics, his solutions to every problem he proposes will only seem similar in rhetoric to the others, though clearly more free market. But there are categorical differences, relative to the nature of the market, government, and the inexorable status of certain propositions of economic science, that other schools do not address. The inherent superiority of a commodity based money for example. Milton Friedman, the preeminent monetarist, thought of as the most free market of economists by the average person would not support such as thing and many other measures, because his economic methodology is categorically different. Philosophy is key.

Ron Paul is one of two persons in the entire federal government that I know who are advocates of austrian theory. And no president or administration ever have been. Otherwise we would have seen a massive decentralization, would probably have a minarchical form of government, something similar to the original constitutional republic, or perhaps better, the articles of confederation.

I did not see this debate, but I do know where Ron Paul stands on most if not all of the issues. Quite simply, he is a strict constitutionalist. The rest of the field, whether they are Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, Greens, or Independents, are puppets of the jew who want what is best for Israel, not for America. Ron Paul is his own man, not being influenced by anyone or anything except the US Constitution and his own good conscience. I am not surprised the rest of the Republican nominees tried in vain to make RP look like an idiot. They apparently made themselves look like village idiots instead, as they always do when coming up against someone educated on the issues instead of just another spokesman whose answers are printed on cue cards. If RP were allowed to speak freely on any issue, he would totally humiliate any other presidential candidate out there. The powers that be are scared to death of RP and they are using their toy, the media, to try to smear him and drown out his message. It is not working. His ship is picking up steam with each passing moment. GO RON PAUL!!!

Ron Paul was the only one in the debate that actually addressed inflation, and the true reason behind terrorist attacks. What we as a country need to do is get out of the middle east and let these so called terrorists actually take over a country, then we can go in actually win a war against a country, and rid the world of these idiot terrorists because they would be all in the same place, and easy targets. Right now we are not doing that, we are playing the find the terrorists in the cave game still, or has no one noticed.
Our troops are suffering, our economy is suffering, well with the exception of the contractors making bank over there. Do not believe McCain he is a warmongering big spender, and that is the last thing America needs right now.

Ask any soldier that gets to come home what is really going on over there.
Thank you for letting me post, and for the coverage on Ron Paul. I am a former
U.S. Air Force member, and I say bring
our troops home now.

Yeah they attack us because we have all these cameras on the streets, they attack us because we restrict gun rights, they attack us because we have free speech(then we jail jounalists), they attack us becasue we have habeaus corpus(then the government suspends it), they attack us because we have drugs made against the law, yeah they attack us because we have made marijuana illegal, and yeah they attack us becuase we have a bill of rights(then these same politicians restrict and damage that document), we've always had these rights and yet why only within the last 40 years have they attacked us? You mean all this time beforehand they couldn't stop our freedoms? I'm a bit alarmed at the willful ignorance on the part of these politicians in their blatent disregard for freedom and to use the terror threat to justify restriction of freedom, which only gives these guys a "will to power" to run our lives. They attack us here every once in a blue moon becuase they are tired of us stepping on them. They know we have the weapons so they can't go too far, but they try to use people that might do something crazy like 911 to strike back at us for our decades of meddling in their backyard, they come here because we already were there. You can't classify that fact, people know we have bases all over the world, it's not a secret, yet these guys act like it has nothing at all to do with why someone would resent our citizens walking around their homelands with machine guns strapped to their sides, come on, what can we expect if some state decided for our benefit to patrol and setup bases all over our country for decades, In Guliani's world we would just love them I suppose, maybe these guys don't understand the real dangers because they ignore the facts, maybe they were taken by surprise on 911 becuase they ignored these histories to begin, sure they kill their own, but they do so becuase they let our troops over their in the first place and are seen as advocating for our military in those midddle eastern countries. They also felt they made the Afghanistan war with Russia a success for which we gave credit only to Reagan, so sure they are miffed with us, they felt used and shoved around and so reacted in a crazy manner. They don't want our kinds of freedom in their society because to them it comes with soldiers and bombs on their people, they feel indentured and as servant slaves to our resource grabbing.

Did you guys see the "Deer in the headlights" look on the other candidates faces when the moderator requested intellectual honesty regarding gas prices? Priceless

I think Dr. Pauls hand going up in that tense moment followed by his informed response cemented his validity as a candidate to alot of non-Paulites.

I don't know whether the moderator was trying to be smug or just ask a tough question, but he grooved a fastball and Ron parked it in the upper deck. Damn what a moment!

I think we will be welcoming many, many more people to the Revolution.

First, Of ALL the so called "debates" this one was the only true debate out there. Charlie did a great job and stood at the top of the heap of others who have mc'd. Good Job ABC and Charlie!

Now, that being said, the fact that the rest of the candidates sounded like they were children in a schoolyard did NOT inspire confidence in me of their leadership abilities. If they can't act like adults in a debate without snickering, how can they possibly lead a country? That alone leads people to believe they aren't worth backing.

Thanks Ron Paul for being the only one out there truly addressing the issues of our country. Too bad that much of America seems to have grown up thinking the government needs to babysit them and pay their way (in more ways then welfare). Hopefully we'll have enough who can comprehend the need for REAL change, not just use the word, to make a difference

Thank God for Ron Paul. I don't agree with his stance on all issues. I think a government for the good of the all the people is a necessary thing in order to live in a fair and just world. So will vote Edwards. But Ron Paul's analysis about the rise of 'radical islam' was the only sane argument I heard re American foreign policy in the republican debate.
