Thompson Stays in Race
January 04, 2008 12:23 AM
ABC News' Christine Byun reports: Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson says he is staying in the race.
"It's pretty clear we're going to have a ticket to the next dance," Thompson said as the audience cheered.
He thanked his wife, Jeri, who he called his "number one dance partner," and Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, for his support.
Shortly before midnight, eastern time, Thompson arrived downtown to a hotel ballroom to be with volunteers and supporters. He and his staff watched poll results and deliberated from his West Des Moines hotel before coming to make his announcement.

Well of course! Why should someone who comes in third quit, when there are 7 more below him

Sen. Fred Thompson is best Republican candidate to challenge the Democrats for the Presidency BECAUSE he stands with Conviction for 'our' conservative principles AND he is the only AUTHENTIC and CREDIBLE candidate who can be this Messenger. (p.s. He is also 100% pro-life, 100% Christian, and he has credibility because his positions have not changed.)

Fred Thompson will win the nomination. The only true conservitive!!
Posted by: Exit Smtih | Jan 4, 2008 12:52:08 AM
Of course he is going to stay in it. He is the only repub that is a complete conservative.

Fred Thompson is the only choice true conservatives have in this race.
Fred is a true "Reagan Conservative".
Huckabee may be conservative on the social issues, but he has no foreign policy experience and is liberal on many important issues including immigration, taxes, and clemency/pardons for criminals.
The real battle for the Republican nomination begins in South Carolina!!

Wait Ron Paul finished 5th when is he going to drop out ?

Fred is loved by so many people who are not Christian identity voters that he will win outside of the one-issue political zone. Issues matter, and the later you are in the primary process the more they do. Huck is a regional flavor that won't wear well outside of the zone. Count on Fred the conservative hero to win the nomination and the Presidency!

right. b/c that's what this country needs: another christian pro-lifer.
things have gone so swimmingly well under bush the younger.

Natch. FredHeads and Fred's quality will keep the campaign going through South Carolina and beyond! FredHeads are pumped, they are mad at the media and they are donating!

Maybe the voters don't want a "true conservative" if you haven't noticed, "true conservatives" aren't exactly the most popular people going, so that is what has given rise to a candidate like Huckabee. He is conservative enough for evangelicals, but not offensive to moderates, nor likely to democrats. Compassionate conservatism is a banned phrase, but the concept still plays well. Fred is a dinosaur without the energy of McCain. He is the lazy kid who was always successful and voters mostly have discovered that and are rejecting it. Its kind of like that old axiom: who contributes more to breakfast: the chicken or the pig? The chicken is in the deal, but the hog, he is committed. Fred doesn't seem motivated to be the pig.

Fred Thompson is a pseudo-conservative and a neo-con at best. He's a puppet of the establishment and Council on Foreign Relations like every other major candidate except Ron Paul. Expect more of the same, regardless of who wins--Republican or Democrat. Anyone who is fooled by Thompson's rhetoric and homespun mannerisms is a gullible rube.

Whoever wins, I'll be thankful that the demented paulpot(simon bar sinister) worshippers will finally shut up.

Why is ABC news practically ignoring Fred in the on-air coverage?! Also, I want to hear Mr. Political Know-It-All "Stephie" admit that he was wrong, wrong, wrong in his glibbly-delivered assumption that Fred would be out of it right after the Iowa results!
Posted by: dawnzerlylite | Jan 4, 2008 4:09:07 AM
I was absolutely floored when "Stephy" just plain said like he was an authority that Fred would be dropped from the race on last nights news. He lost all credibility to me. They are pumping all liberals running Reps and Dems, and conservatives (HUCKS IS NOT A CONSERVATIVE, HE IS A FRAUD) are getting bashed. I'm sending my last $100 to Fred. I travel interstates 1000 a week in a car, for all see..FRED08..

Why is it that Fred is the only one that is suppose to drop out after finishing third. Maybe because they all know that his chances are even better now than before to win. I am a Fredhead and proud of it. I will be donating the money I use to give to rnc to him now. Go Fred you have my vote.
Posted by: Sandra | Jan 4, 2008 8:45:17 AM
Fred seems to be the only one running that's not ranting gays, abortion, health care and the other crap that hasn't a darn thing to do about being a president. It's the staff or cabinet folks that make up the branch of government that I'm worried about.

Actually Ron Paul came in 4th. Huck, Romney, McCain & tompson tied for 3rd, Paul 4th, giulianni last.
Paul and giulianni did not spend much time or $ in Iowa. giuilianni is concentraitng on super tuesday. paul has a good deal of support in NH. so we shall see what happens.
Thanks.

Paul came in dead last - where's the calls for him to quit? Or Hunter? I'm getting so sick of the media that constantly lies to America and tries to shape the "news" to fit thier BDS-formed template.

Chris Fischahs stated, "He is also 100% pro-life, 100% Christian, and he has credibility because his positions have not changed."
How can anyone be 100% Christian and support a pre-emptive illegal war that has killed hundrends of thousands of Iraqis? I thought Jesus was the Prince of Peace.
And why do you think more military personel donate more money to Ron Paul then any other Republican?
Ron Pual is also a Christian and a VETERAN. In won the independent vote in Iowa, and that is what you need to win the Presidency. He also kicked Rudy's butt, the number #1 neo-con.
His 10% win Iowa is a double digits, a victory and good sign of things to come.

I want to see SEN Thompson show more excitement; he's got to want the job.
I believe he could be a great President, but he won't get the chance unless he's enthusiastic about being a true Conservative.
Conservatism, without disguise, WINS.

Why is Fred the only one being asked if he will drop out?
Because Fred is the only one that said if he didn't take 2nd place in Iowa that he would drop out. Fred didn't take second, he barely took third with 3 points between Fred, McCain and Ron Paul. And, speaking of untruths, there is no money flying into Fred's coffers. Fred is desperately trying to hold on until South Carolona. He is at 2% in NH.
Fred needs to go back to TV where it is good enough to just "act" like a conservative.
