An Interesting Clinton Coincidence

February 04, 2008 10:21 AM

ABC News' Kate Snow, Eloise Harper and Ann Compton Report: On the morning before the New Hampshire primary, we Reporters Who Cover Hillary found ourselves at the Cafe Espresso in Portsmouth, N.H.  Senator Clinton was sitting at a large rectangular table, surrounded by 16 undecided voters.  All were female except one.

You'll remember that morning as the morning Clinton got emotional and teared up while answering a question about "how she does it".

On the morning before Super Tuesday, we Reporters Who Cover Hillary found ourselves at the Yale Child Study Center in New Haven, Connecticut.  We were in a nicely appointed conference room.  And in the center was a rectangular table.  Seated around the table were 12 voters.  All were women. Clinton organizers say the goal was to have them all be "undecided" voters (though a local organizer says some may have been supporting Clinton coming in).

Clinton sported a cheerful bright yellow jacket with a cup of coffee in her hand. At the top of the event an old friend, Penn Rhodeen reminisced about the New York senator's Yale days and got a little emotional himself.

Clinton then joked, "Well, I said I wouldn't tear up -- already we're not exactly on that path."  It was a light-hearted whimsical moment.

Clinton went on to take questions for an hour and a half on topics like health care, education, child care, home heating oil and the cost of college. It was all very female friendly.

After days of little sleep, Clinton is nursing a cold and struggling to keep from losing her voice. She has been drinking hot water mixed with apple cider, lemon and honey as a remedy. At one point during the roundtable discussion she had a coughing attack and let the participants continue without her.

A tear was never shed.

This lady is so transparent, again if she actually had to be held accountable for her actions, unlike some other canidates out there; She NEVER would have gotten this far. Big buisness has their "girl" and our vote will not be allowed to get in the way. (Just ask New Hampshire) If the Republicans are willing to roll over, and Obama isn't willing to fight for the people who voted for him (see New Hampshire) then... Hello, the election is over. Hilliary and her Diebold machines can count the vote any way they see fit. And Obama will have to settle for being the token guy on the ticket, with NO influence. I'm sorry for those Americans who felt that they had a choice.

Here are some Barbara Jordan quotes:

"Don't call for black power or green power. Call for brain power."

"It is reason, and not passion, which must guide our deliberations, guide our debate, and guide our decision."

"We, the people". It is a very eloquent beginning. But when that document was completed, on the seventeenth of September in 1787, I was not included in that "We, the people". I felt somehow for many years that George Washington and Alexander Hamilton just left me out by mistake. But through the process of amendment, interpretation, and court decision I have finally been included in "We, the people."

"My faith in the Constitution is whole; it is complete; it is total. And I am not going to sit here and be an idle spectator to the diminution, the subversion, the destruction, of the Constitution."

And lastly a fact on Barbara:

In 1974, she made an influential televised laaa speech before the House Judiciary Committee supporting the impeachment of President Richard Nixon. Jordan was mentioned as a possible running mate to Jimmy Carter in 1976.[1] Her speech at the 1976 Democratic National Convention is considered by many historians to have been the best convention keynote speech in modern history and was ranked 5th in "Top 100 American Speeches of the 20th century" list. She was the first African-American woman to deliver the keynote address.[1]

Those are just a few - Wikipedia her. She was almost an 'angel'. Her voice resounded, deep and strong. She fought disability, discrimination, ill health, conservative scorn, and handicap, all with dignity, power, and absolute resolve.

For me, she was a god of sorts. God Bless You, Ms. Jordan :( I miss you.

I am voting for Sen. Obama right now, what a thrill!!! An OJ administration?? God, listen to yourself, this is the kind of Clinton supporter, it says it all.

Posted by: carmen | Feb 4, 2008 11:12:10 AM

Carmen, can you get beyond the OJ remark and answer any of the question on the stories above?

No Obama supporter even READS the articles let alone believes them.

I know Clinton has had a mess of problems, but like you, I believe they are mostly exaggerations or deliberate distortions by her enemies, so if I am a fool, then where does that leave people such as yourself, who use the same defense for their candidate.

At least I admit her failing and still publicly say, so what.

I am waiting for ONE SINGLE OBAMA SUPPORTER to admit his twists and misleading statements, and still say they support him.

None of you will admit to anything untoward that he HAS done.

The American Evita strikes again.

I'd like to see Clinton and Obama both agree to share the ticket, no matter which one of them becomes the nominee.

This would give Democratic voters the two candidates that they have chosen on their ticket, and hopefully would help to keep their campaigns against one another at a more reasoned level.

It would also reduce the amount of ammunition either will supply to the eventual Republican opponent.

Thanks for the real time view of
Clinton'smorning. CNN is broadcasting the "breaking news" of Hillary's tearing up again this morning. I am so sick of CNN bias toward Clinton. They have no shame!

Posted by: SickofCNN | Feb 4, 2008 1:30:29 PM

Sen. Barack Obama has erased Sen. Hillary Clinton's lead among Democrats nationally, according to a CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll out Monday. The two are in a virtual tie, with Obama at 49 percent and Clinton at 46 percent.

The survey represents a dramatic turnaround in the race from a few months ago when Clinton had a significant edge over Obama.

With 1681 delegates up for grab, what Candidate do you believe will accumulate the most delegates on Super Tuesday?.

Posted by: PollM | Feb 4, 2008 1:31:59 PM

i'm finding the polls interesting for a different reason than most. i see WHO is doing the polls and whether they have been producing polls over the past year or just jumped in lately. for instance, zogby, thought by many (most?) to be totally up for sale, suddenly comes in at the last minute and starts doing polls showing obama up, hillary's leads shrinking, etc. and now cnn is doing it - like we don't all know they're so anti-hillary they can barely breathe when she has a victory and can barely stop cackling when obama has a victory. they're trying very hard to create a self-fulfilling prophecy and hoping hillary supporters will get discouraged and stay home. but we won't - we will be out in force. we are the new silent majority coming out to do what's best and right and not what's politically correct. and we are legion!

This is bad reporting at its best! A news reporter is suppose to be unbiased! I for one am sick of it!!

Posted by: ca4hillary | Feb 4, 2008 3:02:48 PM

the only way to tell the crooked media - loud and clear - that they do not decide our elections is to vote for the candidate they oppose and against the candidate they are pushing for. we should all do this in every election until they get the point. otherwise, what kind of "democracy" is it if the mainstream, republican-owned media's slanted "reporting" enables them to get the result they want (in this election they want obama so the repubs can crush him in the general election, who knows who they'll want the next time, but one thing we do know is whoever they want is in their best interest and not in ours).

No matter what she is a female. Leave her alone. She is human. Many woman have been great leaders. Alot of male chavinist pigs.

Posted by: j0hn edwa | Feb 4, 2008 3:25:54 PM

I quit watching CNN as much as I possibly can. I'm so tired of their pro Obama crap. News stations should report news, not propaganda. The first time they said she cried, she did not! People get choked up, it's called...being HUMAN. Learn that CNN! Are you(CNN) still going to praise Obama when it's proven he can't handle BIG decision making?

Posted by: Denise | Feb 4, 2008 3:48:39 PM

Let's see. How can Hillary's handlers set up the same dynamic that worked in New Hampshire? The room, the tables, the women, the coffee cup.

C'mon, Hillary.... cameras are rolling, polls are dropping, California is slipping away. Cue the tears, damn it!

The definition of a con artist is someone that can perfectly imitate the actions of a sincere and honest person.

Who cares about the polls and the reporting of them? Who really cares if Hillary cries or not? Who cares if Obama is perceived to be favored by CNN or that Hillary is in bed with ABC News.

If you like Hillary or Barack, get your ### in gear and vote when it's your chance to do so.

There are just way too many cry babies on both sides

The very idea that someone even asks her "how she does it"...is a slap to ANY woman. How many men do you ask that stupid question to??? Wake up bimbo...women can do it just like any man. Let's face it...she makes enough money for someone to do the laundry, shop for groceries, take her clothes to cleaners, pump gas. EVERY woman in the world could "do it" if they had someone taking care of them. Idiotic question!!!

Posted by: Pam | Feb 4, 2008 4:37:04 PM

Wow, you people really have it in for Hillary. One more reason that I'm going to vote for her - if she makes horrible people like you go crazy, then she must be doing something right! LOL

Posted by: Jane R, | Feb 4, 2008 4:37:14 PM

Give. Me. A. Break.

Both times she cries on the eve of an election. Both times she cries on a day that sees her being eclipsed in the polls.

Hillary is the most calculated and phony politician that I have witnessed in my lifetime.

Posted by: ElodieStClair | Feb 4, 2008 4:37:58 PM

I had it! Hillary gets my vote; the Lady has a soul; a consious. What is wrong with that!? I rather have someone with emotion than no emotion. Lastly, Obama is inspiring, but so was my pastor, but I would'nt vote for him because he can only talk. Obama is young, immature, and HAD NOT BEEN VETTTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The GOP salivates for Obama.

Posted by: LCI | Feb 4, 2008 4:39:19 PM

Hillary's inner dialogue: "Show emotion! Shed some tears. They do not need any confirmation that I am a cold reptile. They must not be able to confirm that. Ouch, tears hurt! These peasants better be grateful or I will have them all shot!"
