Bush to Hold 10am Press Conference
February 28, 2008 7:50 AM
ABC News' Ann Compton and John Cochran Report: In a surprise morning press conference from the White House, President Bush will hammer -- again -- at Congress to restore what he considers vital wiretap authority, with legal protection for telephone companies that allow the government to tap their systems.
Bush will address reporters from the White House briefing room at 10:05am.
With economic storm clouds darkening, President Bush will talk about what the government is doing to help families with their high mortgage payments; so far, Bush has forecast no recession.
White House press secretary Dana Perino says in his opening statement, alongside FISA and housing reform, Bush will also press Congress to pass legislation on Iraq war funding and a bill that would increase funding for HIV/AIDS relief in Africa. He is still seeking $108billion for Iraq, and at least $30-billion for "PEPFAR" his Africa AIDS program.

Bush 2 is a bigger disappointment than his father. Semms he will continue to try and erode the rights of U.S. citizens till his last day. His legacy is that of a liar. He has disapointed liberals and conservatives alike

the old FISA act is just fine, bush is up to his old game of protecting his rich friends in business, who were unable to face down his demands after 9/11, this just shows you how bushys failure to lead and allow congress to sit on his demands until he leaves office, TG, in less than one year

Every person in the US wanted Bush on that wall when the planes hit, now you want to complain and whine about the trigger happy loose cannon mentality that is spawned. This is what happens when you live by the sword, once you swing it you can't just put it down or you die. So since 8 out of 10 people supported him swinging the sword, now is not the time to abandon him. OBAMA 08!

Does anybody care what that incompetent idiot Bush says about anything anymore? He should just shut up and slink quietly back under the rock from whence he oozed.

Okay but only if we can trade for the 100's of thousands of your interoffice emails back, the videos of torture back, the numbers and causes of deaths of innocent rendition victims, and wire tap YOUR illegal and criminal activities Mr. President. May the legislative and judicial branch also hold you accountable in return? No? You get a free pass to be a war criminal because of 9/11? Yeah, thank you for the better world. Your war on promoting terror is going well. Death is death and it's hard to see how you getting 4,000 soldiers killed to kill 400,000 middle easterners is less terror than terrorists could do. You are more successful than they by the numbers. Wouldn't have special ops over the years kept terrorists at bay without your huge kill total?

JLT: Every person in the U.S. wanted Bush after 911? I didn't and I know one heck of a lot of people who thought to themselves, oh great, the village idiot is in charge. "My Pet Goat" ring any bells? Get a grip on reality...if you can.

Perhaps the 1st phones to tap is George Bush's and the CIA, who can't seem to stop destroying evidence of torture!
George Bush for 7 years has been trying to destroy the US Constitution, habeas corpus and 8 of the 1st 10 Bill of Rights! He and his Republican cronies pass the Military Commissions Act of 2006 which strip away US citizens rights to even a fair trial in a civilian court, or to be indicted and charged before thrown into prison to rot!
Just say no!!! If he can't protect this country within the framework of the US Constitution, and can't change it as provided for in the Constitution, he should not be president as he is violating OUR rights!
Congress has allowed this man to violate the Constitution by passing one law after another that are UNCONSTITUTIONAL!
It is time to stop allowing Bush to hide claiming His alleged Constitutional right and for us top operate legally within the frame-work of the Constitution. If Congress and the white house dweller are unable to do that they do not belong in office as they violate their oaths to uphold the Constitution of the US!

Our elected officials, including Bush took an oath to "protect and defend" the Constitution. Any vote to extend or expand FISA or any policy like it, is in direct violation of this oath. If a senator or congressperson will lie as they are sworn in, what else will they lie about? Anyone voting for this policy is guilty of treason by subversion of the constitution.Let's remember those who vote in favor come November. Let's remember those in favor when we come to our senses and the war crimes trials start...

"No Bill of Attainder or ex post facto Law shall be passed." - US Constitution Article 1 section 9. Immunity cannot be given for a crime already committed.

There are already laws on the books which allow our government to use wiretaps. Bush ... and friends need immunity for those who broke our laws.

Intercepted terrorist messages have already saved American lives, and it is necessary to continue it. Those of you who spout the party line "domestic spying" ought to read up on your facts. Of course, you won't!
