Clinton Will Call on Edwards as President
February 09, 2008 4:56 PM
ABC News' Eloise Harper reports: Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., speaking in Lewiston, Maine, said that she would call on former No. Carolina Sen. John Edwards if she becomes president.
“There is a lot John and I have in common. I will be a fighter, and I intend to ask John Edwards to be a part of anything I do in the White House.” Clinton was prompted to speak about Edwards after a woman stood up and sad she was a former supporter of his -– but has not switched allegiances to Clinton. The woman commended Edwards for being a fighter –- and thought Clinton was a fighter, as well.
Clinton mentioned earlier in the speech that Edwards was the only other candidate running who offered a universal health care plan. “I was proud Sen. Edwards and I decided to put ourselves on the line politically,” she said.
Edwards has not endorsed any candidate, and it would be a helpful endorsement for Clinton or Obama to have in this tight race. Clinton asked voters in Lewiston to stand up for her tomorrow during the caucuses in Maine.

I PREFER SENATOR JOE BIDEN TO BE HER RUNNING MATE.

Hillary is a farce. Im amazed a sinle voter would choose her over Obama.

hillary is an oportunist and anything BUT a feminist. She is a walmart corporate shill for the insurance companies. Her "universal" plan for health is actually a boon for the insurance companies and mandate the poor to pay for something they cant afford. You clowns bought into that loan garbage and her weakness being she was too impatient to help America lol!
I will pray for you misguided sheep

You all seem to forget that Elizabeth Edwards continually said that Obama kept stealing John's ideas and using them as his own. Change was originally John's and several other things. So to say that he has more in common with Obama is wrong.
I personally think that a Clinton Edwards ticket would be hard to beat.

Attorney General or a Cabinet position--Labor or something?
I'm an Edwards person, and she's right about one thing--she is a fighter--the question is whether she'll fight for the right things. Obama is not a fighter at all, and wants to be loved--that won't solve our problems.

Edwards would be high on the list for Attorney General and that would be a great position for him.

If Hillary Clinton doesn't get the nomination, I will become a leader of the McCain Democrats

News flash:Edwards endorses no one!

Pander much? Hillary is worried.

obama's radio ad in south carolina, in response to hillary's lying screed about his reagan comments, said it all: she'll say anything. and change nothing.

Hillary will beat McCain and she doesn't need Edwards to do it. The true conservatives of this country are not going to vote for McCain. Most people who know anything about him consider him nuts. McCain is the Neocon establishment's only hope and a pitiful one at that. He is not a conservative and most true conservatives think he is more a Dem then Republican. They do not trust him and consider him unstable. They will not support him and many will not vote at all.
A Clinton Edwards ticket would be better then a Clinton Obama one to many middle of the road Republicans who refuse to support McCain.
The enemy you know is better then the fair weather friend you can't trust.

SHE'LL DO OR SAY ANYTHING TO GET ELECTED
Posted by: MJ | Feb 9, 2008 8:06:30 PM
Let's not make another huge mistake people. Only Obama will outpoll McCain. Remember, she has the highest negatives of any candidate. Nominating Hillary is handing the neocons another victory, it's just that simple.

JUST ANOTHER SLIME CLINTON TRICK. IT WOULD NOT MAKE ANY SENCE FOR HER TO CHOOSE EDWARDS AS VP BECAUSE IF SHE WAS THE DEM. CANADATE SHE WOULD GET THE SAME SOUTHERN STATE VOTES WITHOUT HIM. ANOTHER NO MONEY POOR ME CRY TRICK. HER AND BILL DESERVE EACH OTHER. OBAMA HAS A HEALTH PLAN THAT WILL GET THRU CONGRESS. HER PLAN WILL NOT. OBAMA WOULD GET THE INDEPENDTENT VOTE FROM MC CAIN SHE WILL NOT. SHE HAS LOTS OF IOU'S OUT THERE FOR THE SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS THAT HAVE GIVEN HER THE BIG MONEY. SAME STORY AS USUAL WITH HER NOT SO WITH OBAMA.

As an Edwards supporter I appreciate Clinton´s comments.

Obama wins big in Nebraska, and is currently leading 67-32 in Washington, with just under a third of the vote counted.

Richard - it has nothing to do with whether they like one another. Johnson certainly didn't like Kennedy. H.W. Bush certainly didn't like Reagan.
I do think you are on to something with your comment about Clinton not wanting him upstaging her. That was the rationale I heard most frequently for why W. Bush didn't choose Hagel. Bayh fits the bill better - not that he couldn't be a credible presidential candidate himself in the future, but he does come across as an non-upstaging number two.
I suspect Obama would decline because he might see it as a poor career move. A ticket with Clinton on it loses, regardless of who is with her, and it would be in the Democratic Party's interests to keep Obama away from that.

Washingon state has been called for Obama - shaping up to be another big percentage win in a not so small state.
Clinton is speaking at the JJ Dinner in Richmond. How she agreed to speak before Obama is a mystery, lol. She's doing fine, though.

My read on Hillary's comment is:
a non-commital committal.
And my read on Edwards supporters:
they'd blow a gasket if he endorsed her absent some earth-shattering secret is exposed.
My preference: Edwards should just release his delegates to vote their consciences. No endorsement and no token handouts from the front-runners.
SO far, neither has made a peep about their "pledges" to put poverty back int he spotlight as a moral issue.
