Hillary the Hunter

ABC News' Eloise Harper reports: When a woman told Hillary Clinton today that her husband was worried about their guns being taken away, the New York senator -- speaking just days after the shootings at the University of Northern Illinois -- informed the crowd that she knows how to handle a gun.

"I’ve actually gone hunting. I know. I know you may not believe it, but it's true. My father taught me to shoot 100 years ago," she said.

When a reporter asked her if she had ever actually shot anything, she said she had.

"A duck, and a lot of tin cans and a lot of targets and some skeet," she said. "See Mike, you don’t know everything about me, as long as you have covered me."

After building up her street cred with hunters, she took a decidedly measured approach to the issue of gun control.

"We need to protect the rights of lawful gun owners under the Second Amendment, there is no doubt about that, and as you’ve said, we’ve got to figure out how to get guns out of the hands of bad people," she said. "So what we’ve got to figure out how to do is make it absolutely clear that no lawful gun owner is going to have anything to worry about."

Clinton addressed the crowd in Milwaukee on her first visit to Wisconsin before the primary scheduled for Tuesday. Clinton made her argument for why she is the best candidate for Wisconsin, hammering away about healthcare and the economy.

She accused her opponent, Sen. Barack Obama, of copying her proposal on creating job growth, saying, "I understand my opponent came to Wisconsin a few days ago and basically gave my speech. That’s very flattering, because I want everybody to agree with me that we can do this."

Clinton has released two ads in the state challenging Obama to a debate. Clinton had originally planned to be in Wisconsin until Tuesday, but her camp confirmed today that she will leave on Monday, though daughter Chelsea and others will be in the state campaigning for her.

Hillary should talk more about Obama's watering down legislation that would have required his big contributor, nuclear giant Exelon, to publicly disclose radiation leaks. If people knew that he did this, they would be outraged. She's mentioned Obama's ties to Chicago slumlord Tony Rezko, but hasn't gone into the details of how he cut off heat for low income African Americans at the same time he was helping Obama purchase a $2 million mansion. These things are well-documented, so I'm surpised she doesn't say more.

You people are in denial of all the bad things the Clintons have done to America.

I’ve been doing my homework and here’s what I discovered.

Legislative Experience

Obama: Illinois Senate: 1997-2004; U.S. Senate: 2004-2007 = 10 years
Hillary: has only been in the U.S. Senate since 2001 = 6 years

Scandals
Obama: One misguided relationship in Chicago.

Hillary (and Bill since he is running too): Travelgate, Filegate, Pardongate, Troopergate, Whitewater, Cattle Futures, Ponzi schemer Norman Hsu, Chinese dishwashers Gennifer Flowers, Zoë Baird, Paula Jones, Monica Lewinsky, Impeachment, dictator in Kazakhstan to name a few.

And we don’t know what is hidden in the Presidential papers that Clinton won’t allow released.
And now her campaigned dissed the American voters, saying the states won by Obama are insignificant? American voters are insignificant?

That's what you want for president?

Hillary is alluding to the fact that Obama is a bit of a copycat. His own record is largely hollow. He does recite good speeches, but that's about as far as it goes. Are those inspirational speeches deserving of the presidency? I don't think so. Hillary gives good speeches and delivers on results as well. Yes she will!!!

Hillary is by far the best choice.. She will make a Great President.. She has much more Experience working with both the Senate, and the House members.. She has also worked with many World Leaders.. We need her to clean up the mess that the current SLUG, has gotten the U.S. into.. GO HILLARY !!!

this race reminds me of looney tunes! Hillary is the coyote, higher on the food chain, but Obama is the roadrunner, smarter and faster and will never be caught!

Obama 08

YES, WE WILL:-)

"Even as Sen. Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign was blasting Sen. Barack Obama for his ties to the Exelon Corporation, the firm of Mark Penn, Clinton's chief strategist, was earning hundreds of thousands of dollars from the very same nuclear energy giant."

It was Mark Penn who complained to the NYTimes that Obama had voted for a bill that helped Exelon without divulging his own ties to that company, nor did he mention that his client, Hillary Clinton voted the same way Obama did, for the bill.

We're trying to learn more about Obama! I've got a pretty good handle on where Hillary stands.

That duck she shot no doubt was a lame duck.

As Hillary herself will be, in a few weeks time.

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton has withstood the test of time. She is a woman of courage, intelligence, perseverance, vision, goals, health, stamina, wisdom, grace, foreign acumen, with priorities for her family and her country firmly in place ... priorites we might all take a lesson from. How many of you could accomplish what she has accomplished? How many of us could walk into the White House on Day 1 and begin to be president of the United States of America ... ready to enforce, support, and defend the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution? Not one. Not Senator Obama, Senator McCain, or any person out here who is so freely criticizing her.

This thing on guns is pure fantasy. Please see the following:

Hillary Clinton on Gun Control
Democratic Jr Senator (NY)

Against illegal guns, crack down on illegal gun dealers
I am against illegal guns, and illegal guns are the cause of so much death and injury in our country. I also am a political realist and I understand that the political winds are very powerful against doing enough to try to get guns off the street, get them out of the hands of young people. I don't want the federal government preempting states and cities like New York that have very specific problems. We need to have a registry that really works with good information about people who are felons, people who have been committed to mental institutions. We need to make sure that that information is in a timely manner, both collected and presented. We do need to crack down on illegal gun dealers. This is something that I would like to see more of. We need to enforce the laws that we have on the books. I would also work to reinstate the assault weapons ban. We now have, once again, police deaths going up around the country, and in large measure because bad guys now have assault weapons again.

Backed off a national licensing registration plan on guns
I believe in the Second Amendment. People have a right to bear arms. But I also believe that we can common-sensically approach this, and backed off a national licensing registration plan.

I dont understand the venom toward Clinton from the obama crew. Fact is she and obama want pretty much the same things. So it comes down to who do you trust to get the job done. I remember sending Carter to DC to change the way government works and that town chewed him up and spit him out. I dont see that happening to Hillary,

Posted by: Hunter | Feb 17, 2008 12:54:38 AM

How about a Clinton/Obama ticket? They could balance each other. Anyway, I am a 62 year-old white woman in Cincinnati, OH and I intend to vote for Hillary in the March 4 primary. As one commentor said, she has been through what it is like to be in a presidency. Almost all First Ladies go to foreign countries for their husbands, so she certainly has diplomatic experience. Unfortunately, my husband and I had to leave NY state to come to Ohio for his work, and I missed the opportunity to vote for Hillary. Her health care plan failed because Congress would not listen to reason. Now look where we are. Bill Clinton left a budget surplus and the economy was good. GWB has not only squandered the surplus, he has put us in a terrific deficit and selfishly put us in the wrong war. Now that we have had over 200 years of men running this country, I think it is time we had someone who could straighten out the mess they have made: A WOMAN!!! Isn't that what we've been doing all our lives?

Senator Hillary Clinton - YES SHE WILL

Posted by: chris | Feb 17, 2008 3:00:16 AM

I agree with the last post......there is a 100% GUARANTEE that a Clinton/Obama ticket would win in November and there would also be a 100% chance that America would benefit greatly from having a Democratic Administration for at least 16 years!

Posted by: chris | Feb 17, 2008 3:01:58 AM

You decide between two articulate democrats Senator Barack Hussein Obama and Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton. Good luck... America think twice before you vote.

I note the americaninparis left out of their litany of good things for Hillary, the basic traits of integrity and character

Posted by: david | Feb 17, 2008 7:35:29 AM

Sorry about that americaninparis, the other person who wrote glowingly of Hillary didn't mention integrity or character. To have her campaign person refer to the American voters as not worth the paper the ballots are printed on is what you can expect if by a miracle she is elected president. I read the bio of the person making that statement and it is enough to make one sick. There will be a revolution if the so called super delegates STEAL the election from Obama. We will then surely be a third world country where rigged elections are commonplace.

Posted by: Deep-Thought | Feb 17, 2008 7:43:09 AM

I certainly agree that the press needs to examine Obama's background more. My main concern is that they have all been enamored by this guy as many of the voters have. They have not really sunk their teeth into him which could end up being a grave mistake should he get the nomination. I like Obama and would support him should he win but personally all of this preachy holier than thou talk is wearing on me. I want more substance instead of feel good talk. I still wish we as Democrats would quite all of the nasty viscious attacks on our candidate. It's OK to disagree but some of these vile comments are uncalled for. I read an article the other day by a national commentatory who expressed concerns that this may hurt us in November by dividing us. He said that the majority of the nasty, vile, divisive comments were coming from Obama supporters. This is not a good sign for our party. Please people, lets step it up a notch!
For the good of the party I will support Hillary or Obama whoever is chosen and we should all do and say the same.....grow up!

Posted by: Dick | Feb 17, 2008 8:19:08 AM

Obama is a breath of fresh air. He's intelligent and surrounds himself with the best and the brightest people. The Clinton's history and the tactics they use to obtain political power worry me. Bill has an ax to grind, and I would hate to see 4 years of THAT dominating the scene. To accomplish anything, whoever is elected will need the support of both parties and the Clintons will get no support from Republicans on anything. She can promise all she wants to but she will not be able to deliver some of the things she is promising, like health care for every American. (and if you look at how she plans to accomplish that, would you really want her to? I don't think so.)

Posted by: ld | Feb 17, 2008 10:49:03 AM

Did anyone else cringe at the thought of Hillary knowing how to handle a gun, lol.

I'm sorry. Really trying not to take cheap shots when she's down, but some of these things make it hard.

Posted by: Paul | Feb 17, 2008 10:56:39 AM

Obamakins? Do you really think republicans are going to vote for Obama in November. They can influence the democratic primary but when it comes time to cast a vote for President the Obamakins will follow the party line. Obamakins will become what they are: Republicans.

Posted by: Jose | Feb 17, 2008 11:18:42 AM

Paul ASKS: Do you really think republicans are going to vote for Obama in November?

I am a female republican who will vote for Obama in November!

READY FOR A REAL CHANGE

We need new blood. . Hillary is part of this country's bad legacy.

Think about it!

GO OBAMA!

Posted by: Karen | Feb 17, 2008 4:54:34 PM

Would you like to run for the presidency? You say whatever comes into your head. Hillary Clinton knows politics ten times more than Obama and can match McCain. Obama is still learning and he has a long way to go. He has no knowledge of foreign policy and does not have the capabilities of running the country.

Posted by: Mariann Pepitone | Feb 17, 2008 6:46:34 PM

You better stay in Paris and read some history books while your at it. And the only one that is going to get caught is Obama after she wins three to four more major states. Obama couldn't win those big state like Hillary he won the nickel and dime states. There was no smile on his face after she won those big states. Now he has a smile and he thinks he has it made but that is going to end. And Gov. Doyle should not be upset because Clinton didn't want to campaign there, he endorsed Obama over two weeks ago. I think she had an idea she wouldn't win Wisconsin and in that case she made the right decision to go to TX,OH and PA to campaign. She is leading in double digits in those states and I hope she beats him in all three. Hawaii where he was born might be a possibility.

Posted by: Mariann Pepitone | Feb 17, 2008 7:04:53 PM

When Bill Clinton became president of this country twice he put this country into good shape. Now it is going to take another Clinton to do it over again. Obama would not know where to start but with Clinton having 8 years as first lady she well experienced in the field of politics. Obama is just starting to learn and is wet behind the ears yet.

Posted by: Mariann Pepitone | Feb 17, 2008 7:07:59 PM

James: Where did you get the facts that she was copying from Obama saying yes we will. Yes we will is not the same as yes we can. What she should say is no you can't because he will not win the nomination. And who cares about those three blacks that switched their superdelegates to Obama. They are a drop in the bucket compared to how many whites are voting. Naturally they are going to vote for their own just like me I am voting for Hillary. If Hillary was not running for president I would not vote for Obama. He is not an American black he is a Kenyan black. That's a different country than America and he really should not be running for president.

Posted by: Mariann Pepitone | Feb 17, 2008 7:15:57 PM

Mariann, you can like Hillary as much as you want, but she simply won't do the Democrats any good. Just check how the Dem nominees would stand up against McCain.

Rasmussen reports today, and I quote: "The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Sunday shows Barack Obama leads John McCain 46% to 44% while McCain leads Clinton 49% to 42%."

So there you go.

Senator Hillary Clinton - YES SHE WILL ................ take our guns away.

Posted by: The Commander Guy | Feb 18, 2008 10:24:31 AM

Hillary the Hunter will soon be sent packing back to Arkansas or New York or wherever she's living at the time
Obama will have to wait until the general election to be sent packing!
Both are woefully inexperienced and John McCain will eat their lunch in any
debate. However it will be a close election since about 45% on each side will vote strictly along party lines and McCain will win by taking a majority of the independent votes!

Posted by: reaganfan | Feb 18, 2008 10:59:56 AM

Mariann Pepitone:
You say when Bill Clinton was President,
"twice he put this country into good
shape"! Since he was elected to two
consectutive terms, are you saying that
he screwed up his first term and then cleaned up his own mess in his second
term? Bill Clinton, in case you forgot
is the guy who let Bin Laden get away and set up the intelligence wall between
the the FBI and CIA which prevented the 9/11 plot from being discovered in time!
Boy that Clinton Kool-Aid must be Real Strong!

Posted by: reaganfan | Feb 18, 2008 5:27:30 PM

David, to educate you on superdelegates voting at the Democratic's convetion, there is no rule states that the superdelegates shall vote for a candidate who wins the majority votes.
The rule states that superdelegates shall vote independent.
With respect to the aforesaid,I would like to say that Obama's camp and supporters are spreading soft news that will have the propensity to bend the rule.

Posted by: Edwin | Feb 18, 2008 9:43:15 PM

I hear that when asked by a reporter about her alleged prowess with guns, Mrs. Clinton backed off, saying she "mispoke" herself. How do you mispeak yourself about all the concrete thing sshe claimed!!?? Her total experience, it now seems, was shooting a gun once, and she said "it recoiled and I didn't like it." Is this a "mispeak" or barefaced lies similar to her claims to land under sniper fire? Maybe she has been taking persons from her husband, who is an expert liar, and much better at it than she is.
