Huckabee: "I Still Believe in the Impossible"
February 08, 2008 12:33 PM
ABC News' Kevin Chupka Reports: Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee needs a lot of things to fall his way and plenty to go wrong for Republican front runner, Sen. John McCain, but as Huckabee said this morning, "I still believe in the impossible."
In his first campaign rally since the departure of former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney from the Republican race, Huckabee told an audience of about 1,100 at Mid-America Nazarene University in Olathe, Kansas, "an election is about a choice not a coronation, and ladies and gentlemen I'm gonna make it clear, conservatives in the Republican party ought to have a choice for somebody who is unapologetically, one hundred percent, without any flinching at all, pro-life, pro-traditional marriage, and pro-fair tax and pro-secure the borders."
In a press conference following the rally, Huckabee was asked just how he thinks he can win the nomination with McCain, R-Ariz., so far ahead.
"Let's say we get to the convention and Romney releases his delegates. They can come towards me," Huckabee replied. "There's also a lot of factors that can happen. Any given day, a candidate can say one word and it gets YouTubed and his campaign's done."
While it may seem like he is hoping for lighting to strike the same spot multiple times for his campaign to succeed in Minneapolis this summer but then again, this is the man for whom impossible may not apply.

We all believe in Huck. The More folks that get to meet him the more folks there will be to get on board.
Let the people vote and see what happens.
I got Huck's back, but he's got everyone in America's back.
Roll on Huck.

Why all the bad things to say about good ol Humble Huck?
Huck's got the best interests of the country at heart. He'll be a champion for all the people, you included. Huck's heart is big and he got love enough to go around even to the folks from Iran.
Try looking to your heart Man. You'll come around.
Roll on Huck

This is the same mentality of George W and look where we are now. We do not need a ¨good ol' boy¨that can't relate to the rest of the world. He lacks real life experiences and is amateurish at best. Not too smart. Good intentions are great but he is not the brightest one on the block. Naive, at best.

Oh Man - that's the problem. You are stuck on GWB43.
Huck's a Healer. And that's just what we need. Let's not live in the past. We got some serious work to do in the present.

John,
He was a Governor for over 10 years and yet you say he lacks real life experience and is amateurish? There is no better training ground for President than governorship. You are wrong. You say he is not bright? What a ridiculous statement. You are wrong again. He is very smart. He is an incredible communicator. He stands on strong moral principles. He is exactly what America needs right now.

Huck could still stand strong, I would be willing to bet that given the choice, those who voted for Romney would have voted for Huck if Romney was not in the race. Those delegates will be released and they are up for grabs, don't count Ron Paul out yet either!!

John David
SCS makes excellent points.
With Huck you got a guy that can go into the Lion's Den and teach the Lions a lesson or three.
GWB43, bless his heart, did the best he could. But Huck ain't him. You imagine GWB trying to take on that colbert fellow?
No problem for Huck. He can do it with one arm tied behind his back.
Huck's the REAl DEAL.
Keep up the good work SCS. We need more Hucksters around these here parts responding to these inaccuracies.

He knows there is no way he can possibly win 86% of the remaining GOP delegates. This is all about getting him on the ticket as VP. He and Dobson cooked this up, so they can kill McCain off, and establish their theocratic Kingdom of Hell on Earth, ushering in the AntiChrist.

Who says lightening can't strike in the same place twice? As we can't control peoples vote nor can we control lightening. I support Huckabee to the end which may be a beginning. The people, which delegates are people too, will speak. GO HUCKABEE!

Good Lord...Huck is a joke, and he is just hurting the GOP.
I was first a Fred Thompson supporter and then Romney once Fred dropped out. I am an ardent conservative. Huck is no conservative - and neither is McCain. But Huck is a snake oil salesman, plain and simple. He is a venomous, sneaky guy who uses his Christianity and Minister-status to fool people into believing he is a nice guy.
I am not a McCain fan, but I would take him over Huck any day. He is conservative on about three issues, and is otherwise a liberal.
I am a Catholic, so I have no problem with religion, but the way Huckabee has exploited religion throughout this race is disgusting.
I agree that Governorship provides good experience for the Presidency, but Huckabee was not a good Governor - he loves taxes, and the Fair Tax is an absurd plan that will have most of us paying more, not less. Additionally, he has zero foreign policy experience. I'd have accepted Romney despite that, but not Huck, considering his incompetence in every other field.
So as a Romney supporter, I'd like to dispel the notion that Huck is the second choice for most Romney supporters. It is flat wrong.
And McCain will not pick Huck as his VP, because he knows he will have no chance. You have to pick a running mate who makes up for your weaknesses, and McCain needs a conservative...this automatically eliminates Huckabee. Huckabee has no appeal beyond Evangelicals, southerners and impressionable people who mistake his smile and congeniality for character.

Thank Heavens he has not given up! And let the truth on McCain come out NOW. ALL of it. It is a shame it did not before Mr. Romney threw it in...this election. The more I learn of the McCains, the more I realize what an idiot I was for ever having one good thought about him.

Note to tom9d : Since you are so sure about Huckabee 'exploiting religion' you need be sure to check into McCain's magical transition when he started insisting he is a Baptist, as he was raised and was a practicing Episcopalian. Whatever difference that makes religion-wise is mute, but the lying involved in it is still not as ugly as Cindy's 'medical charity' that gave her access to the Rxs for her recreation use. The dirt on those two is endless. God bless Carol McCain, his first wife.

For the record, when the Iowa caucus was approaching, I heard on NPR by more than one person that Romney was famous for being a Flip-Flop in terms of beliefs. He rallied his headquarters on Super Tuesday and then drops out two days later. His entire campaign was to spend lots of money and bad mouth his competitors. Anyone who says his character is better than Huckabee needs to be evaluated for a hole in their head.

This country does not need a creationist at its head.

If Huck is charged with creating HOPE and spreading around the Compassion ........ then he's guilty as charged.
Posted by: The Commander Guy | Feb 9, 2008 11:54:57 AM
Huckabee needs to work on shedding his image as a former Baptist minister and broaden his appeal to the mainstream in all parts of the country, including liberal spots like Massachusetts and the San Francisco Bay Area, for him to be successful. Plus he's got to play up his track record in Arkansas more (for example, when he was governor, Arkansas went from having among the worst interstate highways in the nation to having among the best). It's highly unlikely he'll get the GOP nomination but he's laying the groundwork for 2012.

Callenfallen -- you are right.
Huckabee dug a pit for Romney that he will now fall into himself. He is not a viable candidate beyond a limited (bigoted) base. The sooner he gets out of the race the better. And God help John McCain if he chooses Huck as his running mate. People will do just that -- run.
Posted by: KC | Feb 9, 2008 2:28:13 PM
God Bless Huck & this great Republic!! He can do it!! All Republicans need to stand firmly behind him and cast their vote for the only remaining conservative candidate available! Romney also needs to cast his support & delegates to Mike Huckabee!
