Huckabee Lashes Out at Romney in Oklahoma
February 01, 2008 12:11 PM
ABC News' Kevin Chupka Reports: Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee viciously attacked the record of his presidential Republican rival Mitt Romney in Oklahoma City on Friday, calling Romney's actions "absurd" and accusing him of being a liar.
At a press conference Friday morning, Huckabee was asked to clarify comments he made on a cable news morning show the previous day in which he claimed that Romney had yet to reach "political puberty."
"I meant that on a number of issues, he had not yet discovered who he was on the second amendment – he supported Brady, he supported an assault weapon ban," Huckabee said.
He added that "[Romney] was very pro-choice, supported strong positions for same sex relationships, [and] said on television that he would do more for the gay/lesbian agenda than Ted Kennedy."
"That's pretty bold," Huckabee concluded, also mentioning how Romney had said he and his dad had marched with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. "when he hadn't."
He continued to bash Romney's record even further: "I just think you can't have a change of opinion on fundamental issues over and over and wait until you're running for President to do it," he said. "To say that you've never thought about the origins of human life until you were nearly 60 years old, I find that hard to believe even for someone who hasn't run for office before, but certainly for somebody who had."
These are by far the most virulent remarks Huckabee has made aimed at the former Massachusetts governor since his wild and wacky "I'm not going negative" press conference in Des Moines, Iowa on New Year's Eve.
Even when asked about Senator John McCain, R-Ariz., and the differences between himself and the McCain, Huckabee couldn't resist one more jab at Romney.
"Senator McCain -- I don't consider him a liberal. I think Mitt Romney calls him that, that's absurd," he said.
Huckabee continues his frenetic swing through the southern Super Tuesday states Friday with stops in Tulsa, Oklahoma; Bentonville, Arkansas; and Springfield, Missouri.

Listed below are links to weblogs that reference Huckabee Lashes Out at Romney in Oklahoma:
He should be lashing out at the media who has marginalized him. Huck sure didn't like getting the Ron Paul treatment in the last debate. Poor Mike, he thought life was fair. Too bad. He should have spent more money. The only thing the media cares about is cash. Unless his supporters rally with the cash, he won't show up anywhere next Tuesday. Message doesn't matter in this race, money does. Too bad Paul got the most money in the last quarter. But I guess Mike will have to settle for McCain's VP.

Someone is auditioning for a McCain VP-slot...

Huckabee is SUCH A FAKE!!! So...it is "absurd" to say McCain is liberal? Really, Huckabee? Really? I would have thought you would know better. I mean, it's not like the names "Feigngold, Kennedy and Leiberman" have not been tossed around enough for anyone with half a brain to realize that McCain is not a true conservative. You should read the article written by Reagan's son yesterday called "McCain Hates Me" . 'Til then, keep kissing McCain's backside, Huck.

Mike Huckabee is a liberal Christian, basically "religion lite". I also consider him to be very dangerous. He is only staying in the race to help defeat Mitt Romney. Ask yourself, why do the "elite" Republicans hate Mr. Romney so viciously? The strategy is to rid the Republican Party of "true" conservatives.

Kansasgirl, The republican elite do not like Romney because he is for gays, pro choice and raised taxes like he was Ted Kennedy. The guy lies as much as the wind blows. He got the name flip flop romney for a reason.

Go get 'em, Huck!

It is clear Huckabee is a McCain sycophant. He'll go do the dirty work to become McCain's VP. They're both shameless!

Did you guys forget there is another candidate still in this race? Go HUCKABEE!

It would sure be nice if people would look into the candidates for themselves rather than taking Rush's, Sean's and other Romney employee's word for it.
Remember a vote for Mike Huckabee is a vote for Mike Huckabee.

Mitt is just a business and he said it just like to play a game with what you had on your hands.
Wake up so-called conservatives, vote for Mike, America is not for sale.

How do his attacks raise him in percentage of votes? His campaign is floundering, running out of money; viciousness leaves a lasting impression. He needs to start thinking about speaking engagements since his campaign is floundering and running out of money. Who wants an embittered and petty man speaking at the local Rotary Club?
