'Live From New York,' It's Mike Huckabee!
February 24, 2008 3:47 PM
ABC News' Kevin Chupka Reports: Ever the good sport, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee spent his Saturday night poking a little fun at himself in front of millions of people. The former Arkansas Governor is becoming a late night comedy staple and Saturday evening he added the jewel to his crown when he appeared on the "Weekend Update" segment on "Saturday Night Live."
Playing dumb Huckabee asked "Weekend Update" anchor and SNL head writer, Seth Meyers to explain delegate math to him and why so many in the media are saying his candidacy is a statistical impossibility.
"Basically it takes 1,191 delegates to clench your party's delegation." Meyers told the Governor, "Even if you won every remaining unpledged delegate, you would be 200 delegates short."
But Huckabee wouldn’t give up, "Wow. Seth, that was an excellent explanation but I'm afraid that you overlooked the all important superdelegates. Don't forget about them."
Meyers pointed out that of course superdelegates are only a feature of the Democratic primaries to which Huckabee could only comically muster an "uh-oh."
Huckabee then spoke to the American people, saying, "Let me assure the American people that Mike Huckabee does not overstay his welcome. When it's time for me to go, I'll know, and I'll exit out with class and grace." Huckabee then proceeded to sit at the news desk, unmoved as Meyers and co-anchor Amy Pohler were obviously ready to move on.
Overall it was a strong performance by the Governor who is fast becoming a pro at deadpan comedy. He has repeatedly appeared on "The Colbert Report" and has even promised the Vice Presidency to it’s host, Stephen Colbert.
Sunday morning, after America had some time to let Huckabee’s antics sink in, the Republican hopeful told CNN’s John King about his night, "It's an awesome experience. The "Saturday Night Live" crew and cast have to be some of the most amazingly talented people in all of America. And they are also some of the hardest working people. You just can't imagine how long the hours are these guys put in. And to put that show together, to do it live, it is truly one of the most remarkable things I have ever witnessed in my life."
Huckabee sheds his comic chops Monday as he resumes his campaigning in key March 4 primary states.

Mike Huckabee is what we need to revitalize this country. He knows how to work hard and get the important things done like lowering taxes, improving education and roads. He will protect our national sovereignty and strengthen our military. And He also knows we have to have fun too. He knows we need to have creativity, imagination & ingenuity.
We don't need a president who relies on lobbyists to run his campaign. Let's elect some one with real governing experience. Let's elect someone who can balance a budget and is not in debt. Let's elect a true fiscal and social conservative. Don't let media and Washington insiders tell us how to vote, just to line their own pockets. Let's elect Mike Huckabee. Texas, Ohio, Vermont, and Rhode Island, we are counting on you to keep the ball rolling clear through to the Convention! VOTE HUCKABEE!!

Huckabee is a classic and the ones who don't take him serious, most likely, haven't learned his issues and what he could do for America. Right out of the starting gate they didn't take him serious or give him the credit he deserves, good ole corporate America doesn't want a guy like Mike. I believe in miracles more than corrupt governmnet. Go Huckabee- all the way!

Huckabee is the worst thing that could happen to America. You couldn't pay me to vote from him. He talks about "What's good for America." What would be good is if he'd crawl back under his rock.

I don't get the vitriole from supposedly adult people.
I don't care for Hillary or Obama, but I keep my criticisms to their policies and records. I don't know either of them personally, so it is not right for me to call them names or attack them on a personal level.
The more liberals use such childish language to insult Huckabee, the more the grownups will like him.

I watched the show. Huckabee was very funny. I was shocked by the casts unabashed and mean spirited support for Clinton until I realized that the show is 'Live' from New York. I never considered New Yorkers to be provincials before.

I actually got to met Gov. Huckabee at a wedding at the Gov's Mansion in Little Rock in 2004. He was very down to earth and a very nice man to talk to. He seems pretty sincere to me.

I think Mike Huckabee and the FairTax is just what the USA needs. I'm sick & tired of hearing that he should bow out gracefully. As long as he is in the liberal side of McCain has got to fight
his Conservative side . It gives the American people a better chance to understand him. I don't think that Mike has a chance of winning but ( STAY AND KEEP TALKING FAIRTAX )

Imagine, having that kind of humor, sincerity, and intelligence in a president! Won't that be a change! And of course, if McCain's camp keeps up the good work, we may be calling him Mr. President yet! He will be great at foreign policy because he can laugh at himself, is very well spoken, and is extremely knowledgeable about the Middle East and other parts of the world. Also, his calm temparament would be a great asset.

I just wish that the rest of Washington was run as well as Mike Huckabee's campaign! Imagine how much tax money we would save!

Gov. Rick Perry I would like to aks you
"did any one tell you to get out of the race"? I really cannot recall such a person doing that! Mike Huckabee deserves better from you than this! You my fellow Texan have lost at least 30 votes that I know of.. Time to let this election proceed like it should with every voice in the USA being heard not just your own..
