ABC News Bret Hovell and Seiko Hayashi Report: Senator John McCain - while professing his continued respect for his rival for the Republican nomination - said Wednesday it would be easier for him if former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee dropped out.

"I don't pretend that I wouldn't like Governor Huckabee not in the race, but I respect his commitment to do so, and his commitment to continuing the race," McCain told reporters in Washington.

"Of course I'd like for him to withdraw today. It would be much easier." he added.

Watch the VIDEO HERE.

McCain, R-Ariz., who beat Huckabee in three primary contests on Tuesday, has suffered criticism from many in his own party who question his conservative credentials. Huckabee meanwhile has been racking up support from the party's base of Christian conservatives.

"[I] understand why many evangelical Christians would vote for Governor Huckabee," McCain explained. "He is a Baptist minister, and I respect that, and I respect his conservative views and his attraction to them."

McCain was asked about his win over Huckabee in Virginia on Tuesday – a race that looked very tight as early returns were coming in, but widened as the night progressed.

"We beat him by nearly 10 percent…" McCain said. "In any election I've ever been involved in, a 9 percent cushion is very good."

The voice of the voters is what matters. Nobody (Hilliary, John... are you listening?) Is ENTITLED to.. ANYTHING!!!

Huck just doesn't get it. It must be his vanity or perhaps he is such a cheapskate that the few dollars he gets each day from his loyal, but blind, followers keeps his from doing what is right. His logic is scary. He sees himself as honorable but his actions are anything but, from the perspective of the good of the party.

Newt, the second you put your party before your principles is the second you have agreed to bow down.

I hear it from both sides. "You can't trust Obama/Hillary/McCain/Huckabee, don't vote for them. I'm voting for Obama/Hillary/McCain/Huckabee because they are the right person to run this country." Then, with the same breath, they continue; "If they don't win, i'll be voting for whoever the nominee is."

What?! Didn't they just say the other person wasn't qualified? Didn't they just say that the other person is a moron? Didn't they say that we will all go down the pits if their guy/girl wasn't the nominee? Yes they did. Instead of taking a step back and viewing all the candidates in the race now in an objectinve manner, they will just slide their nose from one side of the troff to the next. All the while, the thought doesn't cross their mind that if they just lift their head and look around they will see a beautiful budding flower of truth and sanity just above them ready for consumption. WOW! Now they are willing to assist that other candidate run this country into the ground. If the candidate is a major flip-flopper, wouldn't that make these supporters mini-flip-floppers?
I don't get it. Can somebody explain this logic to me.
BTW, that beautiful, budding flower is the REAL grassroots efforts of Ron Paul and his supporters. Please, people, take an objective view of him and what he says. Nobody else is fighting for our the civil rights. Most people don't even believe our civil rights are in danger. research the patriot act, HR1955 and the other bills that have been passed since 9/11. Your vote does affect me and my family, as does mine affect yours. I will fight on for my family and yours, even if you choose not to. If you think I am wrong here, please correct me. Don't just call me a Paulbot and run to hide. Give me facts.

You think I'm for "Huckelberry?" That's a new one. Listen I worked for John's campaign in 2000. I know what he's capable of. This is NOT the man you want in the White House. He believes in open war. It's one thing to use "covert operations" (CIA, special forces) to disrupt regimes he doesn't like. But open war, is another matter entirely. John wants to take on Iraq, Iran, North Korea, and even China... ALL AT ONCE!!! This is NOT rational. Our military is at it's breaking point. Have a sibling in the military and they'll tell you. John is destroying our armed forces taking on enemies he chooses to take on, without provocation. Creating more terrorist, does NOT prevent terror. It weakens our national defense, (Hello, open borders!!!) while causing other nations to oppose, antagonize, and threaten our country since our forces are spread thin and we are left vulnerable. This is the last thing you want to promote to shore up our security. John just doesn't get it. I'm not saying that Obama (Go into Afghanistan), or Hilliary (Go into Iran) are that much better; But John is dangerous. We do not have the troops or the hardware to go into Iran. It would be a disaster. If Iran has nuclear weapons, we have to negotiate immediately. Exposing our troops to a nuclear attack is reckless, and immoral; Not to mention that it will endanger America. If we attack Iran, they will reciprocate in Iran, Iraq and even in the US. I just don't think that we sould be threatened with such foolish errant thinking in our foriegn policy. For that I stopped supporting John. And will actively campaign against him. The prospect of perpetual war, threatens all of us. That is unmistakeable. John has nothing else to offer us, economy, health care, he could care less. His agenda is about war, and little else. This is not a man who is capable to be President.
