« NAFTA Rhetoric? 'It Didn't Happen' | Main | Obama: She's Not Dead Yet »
No Hucka-Crush on Obama
February 28, 2008 4:11 PM
ABC News' Kevin Chupka Reports: Governor Mike Huckabee is still grasping at straws in his effort to create a scenario -- any scenario -- in which GOP Rival Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., would NOT wind up capturing the Republican nomination for President. Huckabee is quick to point out the differences between he and McCain on issues like life, marriage and tax reform.
Today in Texarkana, Texas however, Huckabee took a page from the McCain play book: criticizing the platform of Democratic front runner, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill.
McCain's rhetoric criticizing Obama is due in most part to the spreading belief in both parties that the Senate colleagues will face off in the general election. Huckabee, however, will almost certainly not be facing Obama or any other Democrat this cycle. It didn't stop him from criticizing Obama's suggested spending to the gathered crowd of approximately 250.
"And so here's the challenge," Huckabee said, "when I hear Barack Obama say that he's gonna provide everybody with health care and college tuition and pave the streets with gold, ya know the American Taxpayers Union has already figured out that just the proposals he's put on the tale so far, already are going to cost about $287 billion, so far."
Huckabee continued, "What we don't know is how much will it cost when we walk away and leave Iraq in a mess and the Middle East blows up. How much will that cost…If we were doing the Master Card commercial we'd simply say we know what some of the costs are. Some of the items on his agenda? Priceless."
Obama was not the only one under Huckabee's microscope this morning however. Immediately following the rally, Huckabee spoke with reporters to express his displeasure over McCain's apparent refusal to debate. "I think debate is something that's healthy, always. It's good to have the issues discussed and I feel it would be good for voters of Texas, Ohio and Rhode Island if they had a chance to see the two candidates they have to choose from and if they don't have the opportunity I hope they'll remember that -- maybe they'll just vote for me and that will force future debates."
One debate that has been proposed is with the Values Voters, a group Huckabee has had great success with throughout his campaign. As for McCain's apparent refusal to debate in such a forum (or any forum at this point) Huckabee said, "if you're going to be President you ought to be willing to sit down in front of any group."

Listed below are links to weblogs that reference No Hucka-Crush on Obama:
I was unaware of the paving streets with gold program. nice. The 287 Billion that Huckabee quotes, less expensive than Iraq. - Nuff said. If it is going to be spent, at least lets spend it here at home.

I wonder how Huckabee feels about John McCain's embrace of Mr. Hagee, a man who refers to the Catholic Church as the "Whore of Babylon" and Harry Potter as a "tool of Satan," not to mention demanding that Israel attack Iran to bring God's kingdom to Earth.

LOL at spending the money at home. yep.
How about we just put the extra effort into stabilizing Iraq instead of just WASTING the entire effort and american lives and Iraq lives just so OBAMA can look good.
You naive obama FOOLS dont think much about real concequences. Your GURU has promised bliss on a silver platter. Thats all you requre to get suckered.

obama called canadian ambassador that he was just posturing at the debate and canada need not worry about usa and nafta- buisiness as usual -
then he denied it
The Canadian Embassy confirms that at no time has any member of a presidential campaign called the Canadian Ambassador or any official at the Embassy to discuss NAFTA. Last night, the Canadian television network CTV falsely reported that such calls had been made. That story is untrue. Neither before nor since the Ohio debate has any presidential campaign called Ambassador Wilson or the embassy to raise NAFTA."

Have you ever read in any American Jew Association press release this statement, "Palestines r the ones that most suffer"?
Because Obama said this last year, March 2007.

I am one of the MILLIONS who donated to Senator Obama's campaign. I can't wait to march to Washington in 2009 to watch Senator Obama swear in as our Next President of the United States of AMERICA!
YES WE CAN!!!!
Most of Obama supporters will now adopt his middle name as our middle name to prove a solid point! We reject AND denounce the politics of fear!

At least the streets of gold will be here instead of shrapnel in some other country. 2 Trillion and we have nothing to show for it except a dollar worth less than Canada's and $4/gallon. Healthcare & an educated workforce will transform generations to come.

Bring $4 trillion of oil back to the USA from Iraq...it's payback time
Posted by: martinangell | Feb 29, 2008 1:16:16 AM
How about Senator Obama saying something like this: "Today is the 29th of February 2008. The US military has another year to root out al Quaada in Iraq, before we shift our military focus back to Afghanistan, where it belonged in the first place. One year, that should be enough time to find al Quaada, unless they are hiding with the 'weapons of mass destruction' that brought us to Iraq in the first place. I'd also with to advise the politicians in Iraq, that they have some progress points to make before they should dare ask Americans for more of our sons & daughters blood and more of our national treasure. America is not going to support perpetual sectarian bickering or more jockeying for position to get a disproportionate share of Iraq's oil revenue. You, the presumptive leaders of Iraq, have gotten our support to build a new nation out of the ruins of a cruel & brutal dictatorship. It's time to get to building; the time for bickering is over, because in 12 months I will, with the grace of God, be in a position to take a much more analytical and dispassionate look at your progress than my predecessor, President Bush, is willing to take. America is a nation of good will, we came to help the people of Iraq. Now, we wish to bring our son's a daughter's home. In return for that action, you must make the government that you want and the nation that your people need. All we demand is that you give no quarter to those who would terrorize and divide you in order to have a base from which to attack and destroy us. America, while I am President, will not tolerate that. Make good use of your time , brothers & sisters.” How’s that for the first draft of a plan? ...jt

I've wondered about this: If the war in Iraq is funded by borrowed money, then will all the marvelous programs featured in BO's rhetoric be also funded by borrowed money? He does intend to pay for all this with money saved from the war, doesn't he?
Posted by: Milo, MA | Feb 29, 2008 6:38:53 AM
BO has a giveaway for everyone he meets. Even I stand to gain under his glorious plans. But even I have to question who is going to pay for all this.
Sad to say, but if Hillary doesn't make it, my vote goes to McCain or Nader. I prefer the devil I know...

American people deserve a debate between Huckabee and McCain. How would you Obama followers feel if Clinton refused a debate? It is the right thing to do, McCain being ahead is irrelevant. Huckabee did comment on Hagee ABC didn't put that portion of his speak in this article. Once again, the OB followers are trying to clinch out the proper way of a system to elect a President. This muscled media and the attitudes of these comments are disgrace to the American way. If Huck ends up out, I hope Nadar get Bloomberg and blows the doors off this type of unacceptable actions. Most Obama followers act like Bush, it's all about you, not the right thing, and you don't care that this campaign system is corrupt. That is no better than Bush's behavior. It hasn't fooled every American.

JIMBO: "The Koran will now replace the bible ('bible' not capitalized...curious)..." It is very difficult to respond to these folks who, obviously, get their talking points from wing-nut radio and are prepared to repeat these stupid lies until they make it to a skit on Saturday Night Live. "The Koran will replace the Bible..."; "Barrack Hussein Obama..."; "Real patriots wear flag pins on their lapels, Obama must be an al Quaeda plant who is going to blow up the white house with his wife and children inside as soon as he's president..." All repeated ad nauseam, from that choir of true believers who hold only second-hand magic opinions. There is a purpose though. The reason for constant repetition of scurrilous, scandalous, cowardly and dishonest lies is to frighten people.
