Obama on "Ellen"
February 28, 2008 6:18 AM
ABC News' Sunlen Miller Reports: Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illi., taped an interview with the talk show host, Ellen DeGeneres from a campaign stop in Duncanville, Texas.
Ellen reminded Obama of their joint on-air boogie in October, to which Obama chalked up to a good luck charm of sorts, "We were kind of in a slump until I was dancing on the show – my poll numbers skyrocketed after that."
Obama gave an update on kicking his habit of smoking, confirming that he has been successful thus far. "I've been chewing on this Nicorette, which tastes like you’re chewing on ground pepper – but it does help."
Ellen asked Obama what his first day in the White House would be like – if he were to win the nomination and then the general election.
"Well for of all I think I'll just go into the Oval Office and sit at the desk and say, 'Wow, this is really cool,'" Obama joked.
The Senator then got serious and gave his stock answer – that he'd call in the join chefs of staff to start talking about getting troops out of Iraq in a safe way.
Obama's interview – which will air Thursday morning – comes just three days after Ellen made a cameo appearance, via satellite, at a Hillary Clinton fundraiser in DC.
The Obama campaign said that the timing is not at all linked – that Obama's interview had been on the books for awhile.

Yeah, the Ellen boogie session did do it. That combined with the 1st Obama Girl video. Took him from a <20% candidate like Edwards to rockstar status.

Obama 2008
From the 1st. Time we saw Obama play his role--we saw the real thru his struggles which brought a glow of promise to our soul..
This man who came from seem like nothing at all--has made his way to America to heed the call..
The call to become what he was born for--that is the president of the US and so much more.
In 2004 Obama gave us a taste at the Democratic Convention--as he spoke proudly to the nation..
He let Us see what a real democrat should be--as he spoke so personal, I felt he was only speaking to me..
As I looked and listen that day I saw a light--a light that beamed change so bright..
The world saw something different than we have today--saw a strength filling our ears with a hope of change someday..
Everyone saw and heard--as Obama spoke the world leaned on every word..
When Obama came to the end of what he had to say--Democrats were not the only ones who felt, finally a man who thinks the right way..
We felt that this humble man had brought to politics, something new--and if he’d run for President a lot of positive changing, he would do..
But there are a lot of changes to be done--right now this second the congress needs to be won..
We need to get some Democrats that will work more than 3 days a week--we need to vote those self serving Republicans from their seats..
Send some congresspersons that don’t mind walking the halls--that don’t mind serving the voter, carrying the political ball..
Its time to make some changes scream them loud--don’t get lost in your own political crowd..
Republicans remember why we voted for you--or soon you will be getting your just dues..
Even your own people want you to change the way you serve Us--its harsh, unfair, selfish, and rough..
Its time for a change in this United States--

OBAMA's struggles? He has had privelige compared to us....
Anyhow, Ellen strongly supports HILLARY as I do.

Looks like Obama is making the celebribty rounds - how ridiculous! SNL, Ellen, Entertainment Tonight - really this reminds me of groupies flocking to their graven image not informed voters looking at a serious Presidential candidate.

well now that Mccain has Bloomberg behind him he is going to kick your guys but why do you think mccain is also wanting to back out of public money this is who the MSM has wanted and who we will have for a president
Blooberg is not running for president becuse Hillary is so far behind. So if you think Obamais going to be president think again. The republicans know how to close rank that is why they get the office more then the democrat's I guess Obama listened to the losers backing him . To bad he couldn,t wait his turn.

If Hillary is defeated is will be because of sexism, raceism and the medias appetite for sensationalism. The media has been beating up on Hillary for 16 years with personal insults and adding an insulting spin to everything she says and does. The media has forgotten how to be real journalists and how to do investigative journalism. They are ignoring Obama's crappy voting record in Illinois, voting present instead of yes or no. He didn't vote to stop strip joints and bars from locating near schools. He did a crappy job of trying to protect citizens from a neuclear power plant in Illinois(his state) and he tried to blame Hillary for voting for his bill that he wrote. HELLO! He has all the media, the majority of blacks(who have forgotten the people who have helped them in the past-what a slap in the face), the Kennedy machine trying to resurrect itself on the coat tails of Obama, stolen speeches, circulations of false accusations in the mail against Hillary for just some of the goings on. For this Michelle Obama says she is finally proud to be an American. Well, guess what, this makes me ashamed to be an American.

MCCain is going to be our next President Obama can,t beat the republican machine now that they believe Hillary is out they will join ranks you will see MSM loves MCCain they hate the Clinton's cause they believe Clinton took the office from Bush sr. polls do you really believe that 70% of us wanted the Iraq war. and were behind Bush a movement is not going to get us the white house unless we can drag that movement to the white house .
Posted by: Bishop | Feb 28, 2008 9:43:27 AM
Yeah, sexism is what took her 30+ point in the polls and made it disappear over a matter of months. Give me a break.
Obama's plans are as detailed as Hillary's, if not more so. He's been in elected office longer than she has. He's accomplished more significant things in the US Senate over a shorter period of time. And he's running a pro-level campaign while she's stuck in AAA.
Posted by: Jake | Feb 28, 2008 9:46:48 AM
Wow.. you Hillary supporters sound really hateful! It's funny, you guys are out spent, out maneuvered, and out campaigned, and as a consequence now she's practically out of the race. Why? because while Obama supporters were coalescing around a common purpose, CHANGE, HRC supporters where being hate mongers, divisive to the Democratic party, femenist activists, lacking in judgement, lacking in planning, lacking in authenticity and lacking in theme. Just the sheer arrogance of Mark Penn and the campaign makes you know what kind of Presidency she would have. Just read the blogs... you guys are STILL hateful of Obama, even though you're down11 contests... meanwhile Obama and his grassroots supporters like me show gracefulness to our opponents. Haven't you guys learned anything??? Anyway... God bless America!

>>>>HELLO! He has all the media, the majority of blacks(who have forgotten the people who have helped them in the past-what a slap in the face),<<<
Excuse me? Who slapped whom? Who helped whom? ------ Bill Clinton with his 40+% 'mandate' would never have made it out of Arkansas without the active, very steady support of the black community. Actually Clinton couldn't do much of substance for that group of voters while in office (large Rep. majority after his first two years) but the Clintons did give respect and recognition, which counts for a lot. But then, when the first cracks in that support came after Sen. Obama started seeming more viable, the Clintons tossed the entire community under the bus .. playing the race card, diminishing a very viable black candidate, and starting with the first of their many "oh, but those votes don't count." If Hillary and Bill had continued to give respect, I think the vote percentages would have been quite different for her, at least among the older voters (as has been true for other voting blocks). I'm white by the way, but have worked with and in the black community in various parts of the nation. As much as any of this can be generalized, I'd say that those voters are far, far more loyal than many other sub-groups. But, for unfortunately good reason, they are also very quick to recognize falsity, being used, and being demeaned. It's the Clintons who did the slapping.

How'd that Republican machine do in 2006?
Also Bloomberg left the Republican party and is now an independent, so we have no idea who he will support (probably neither). It should also be noted that Obama and Bloomberg had lunch a couple months ago.

Well at least Hillary isnt trying to get on Oprah and I hope she never does !! Figures Obama would horn in on Ellen after the Hillary incident.
Here is some basic math Nominate Obama after knocking out Hillary== equals obama vs McCain ==equals McCain wins because Obama doesn't have the experience or knowledge to lead the free world. The media has helped create him and ultimately it will dismantle him after he botches a few situations. Just remember then that you all helped to get this "Golden Boy" elected.
Posted by: jimbo | Feb 28, 2008 12:20:22 PM
Hillary isn't trying to get on Oprah? What does she have against Oprah?
Think before you talk. Don't become the reason why Hillary deserves to lose. Although she does, with or without ranting supporters like you.
Notice how Obama is a unifier by being friendly with Ellen whose stunt supposedly gave Hillary a boost. And your words, "Hillary isnt trying to get on Oprah". The latter's leadership in unifying people, or lack of, is reflected fully in your rant.

The truth is Obama has zero solutions to our problems. Once the election is over, he would not have Clinton to copy anymore.
We are all going to feel it - feel good about our problems because Obama will give one of his inspirational "plagiarised" speeches.
Good luck folks.

Stella? I guess I am concerned and confused as to how a person is supposed to stop someone bad or good from endorsing them... he denounced him, even rejected him (lol sorry I just know what a big deal that word turned into) I'm not trying to be argumentative, I too am Jewish altho not practicing I guess I just don't understand how Barack could have reacted any differently to make it clearer that he does not support this evil man's views... it saddens me to lose good hardworking Democrats to the other side over situations that the politicians really have no way to prevent. I know I will probably be bombarded by people telling me about Barack's preacher's views ( and I only care about Barack's so I do know about it people) but I am truly curious about your reaction to this situation...

Hmmm... talk show hosts have guests to increase ratings and advertising value... I am not sure why people think this warrants media coverage. Every talk show host has had every candidate on their show at some point.
Are voters seriously casting a vote based on dancing ability, looks, smile, charisma, etc? That is what got Reagan and Bush Jr. elected. Both of them gave us record debt and deficits among other tragedies.
The obvious endorsements of Oprah for Obama and Ellen for Clinton exist and that is fine but it should not influence your vote. Who do the other talk show hosts endorse and does it really matter to the voters? Yes they are people with the power of one vote and the right to endorse or campaign for whomever. Should they be using celebrity status to try to influence the voters anymore than the MSM should be? Since when are celebrity talk show hosts qualified journalists and political analysts? We already know that most of what we see from the MSM today is nothing more than yellow journalism and biased coverage. The MSM's political analysts themselves often flip flop day to day.
If any endorsement determines who you vote for that is really disturbing... especially if the endorsement you follow belongs to a celebrity with no qualifications to do the research, analysis, and assessments for you.
Be pro-active and vote smart! We should all be using the unbaised resources on the Internet to educate ourselves. We should all be helping each other learn the real facts and cast thoughtful votes instead of following along like little lemmings.
Posted by: DCVoter | Feb 28, 2008 2:16:48 PM
I think too many people learn about "the issues" through television which involves celebrity endorsement. The candidates use it to reach out to different people that may not normally be interested in politics...it is unfortunate but perhaps as the years go on it will help foster some new ideas, some fresh blood - the longer people pay attention to politics the more informed they become. Although I doubt it will help in this years election at all.
Posted by: not4uHillary | Feb 28, 2008 2:22:55 PM
not4u - he did not denounce his endorsement... he denounced his anti-semitism (read the debate transcript)... (notice he did not mention any of the other horrid prejudices that Farrahkan and his own minister support).
Clinton was correct when she called him on that point... she stated he should reject the endorsement completely... he conceded but did not sound sincere to me.
Posted by: DCVoter | Feb 28, 2008 2:26:49 PM
I agree DC Voter.
A person doesn't reject hatred because they are called on it or caught. They reject it out of principal. Obama could have rejected Farrakan's praise, but he chose not to.
You can't claim unity with Farrakan at your side. You can't claim unity when Farrakan has been at your side.
This religion of Obama's...is going to be a problem. It should be. How many years haven't the Democrats complained about the Christians?
Posted by: Ben | Feb 28, 2008 2:33:05 PM
I can understand your point..to me though it all seems like semantics- And I do understand we will all hear what we want to hear to support our choice in candidates... I am of the opinion that Senator Obama is quite honest and I did find him sincere, but I also have turned over a new leaf and am trying to research both candidates right now since one of them will be our nominee for sure. It's interesting though and that is why I asked in my post- because I would like to understand how other's would be upset over his choice of words...
Posted by: not4uHillary | Feb 28, 2008 2:34:23 PM
Like I said turning over a new leaf what does my name have to do with anything isn't it what I say in my posts that matters?... I was not trying to be argumentative but obviously that was wasted on you. I was asking a question to get a different opinion from my own because I already KNOW who I think would be better and I am trying to understand other people's points of view. I apologize if my honest question caused you any alarm but I am not here to be attacked ..just trying to find an intelligent conversation about the issues.
Posted by: not4uHillary | Feb 28, 2008 2:43:12 PM
I think what you post is certainly more important than the chat name you chose. However, your name "advertises" at the end of every post that you are anti-hillary so it taints perception.
I think it is great to research the facts and advocate that so we are not all lemmings. If you use the words "vote smart" in your search you will find the unbiased resource site that has all the facts, issues, bios, interest group ratings, campain contributions, voting records, and accomplishments of every candidate regardless of party and independent of the MSM.

LOL looks great... happy to help... it is what we should all be doing... helping each other so we unify as a country not as individual parties
Posted by: DCVoter | Feb 28, 2008 3:35:10 PM
I agree , but I am still leaning to the left for this one ...it's all the same thing just packaged differently on the other side...does this mean I will have to change my name to kindofopenminded ?Btw the search worked great and I would recommend it to everyone just to see what ALL of the candidates are up to ( or have been up to) Thanks again DC
Posted by: openminded | Feb 28, 2008 3:57:25 PM
Thank God there are some smart voters out there! This media blitz takes away our voice when they write "opinions" and it is taken as "fact" by many. I have personally gone to both candidates' sites to look at their plans. Its amazing that both Dems have almost IDENTICAL views and plans on the actual issues and yet the media has turned this into a boxing match. I personally look at the Presidency as a job, actually the CEO of a company and consider myself as the person responsible for hiring. My expectations may be different than others but the responsibility to pick the best CEO of our country should be more than a popularity contest.

Posted by: Joan | Feb 28, 2008 7:41:10 PM
I am glad to hear that people are finding a website to do their own research of the facts of these politicians. I have already begun this process and it reinforces what I first believed was the best choice of Democratic nominee. We, as the voice of this country, have a lot to decide. We do need to do more ourselves for this country to recover from war, apathy, and the economy. We have talked to our local rep about being able to afford our continuing education. We have gone to the school board about school trying to label our daughter with a learning disability when all they were doing was sitting her in front of a computer instead of teaching. We went to the school board for not helping us challenge our son even though he has tested gifted and could go to an accelerated program at a private school if we could afford it. We went to the school and the school board as well when we found mistakes in the children's curriculum. We, at home, encourage our children to read and research subjects. These are just examples of how to get out and do something instead of sitting at home and complaining about everything. When we discovered our school system closes for tournament basketball games we went to the school board again and the town paper. Please do more than analyze sound bites. Of course the media are trying to increase their subscription numbers. These are just examples of how people can be progressive about issues they say need to be addressed. It can be at the local, state, or national level. The candidates aren't going to be able to fulfill all of their promises. We can't continue to sit here and wait for things to be corrected or done for us either.

Unfotunately, I really believe that this man does not take the job seriously. He's in it to win it, but every time he is asked a question, and it has not been scripted-he doesn't talk about us, the people, he talks about himself. I am concerned that so many people see him with such hope (and apparently poetry), that they refusing to look at the facts. He has a very limited and not very distinguished political career so far. That being that case, all you worshipers out there are in for a big disappointment. You have the opportunity to elect someone who is a fighter. Someone who is willing to get in there and fight for you and your dreams--It is Hillary Clinton who is the strongest candidate. I agree with Ohio Dem-we should be deciding this by looking at their credentials. He really doesn't have any--to be President. This is not a popularity contest. People did that 8 years ago and got George Bush. We need Hillary.

To Thy Will Be Done:
I invite you to go to the blogs on the Clinton website and see who her supporters really are. You guys on the Obama side think you are so special. We are all special. Your rhetoric is ridiculous. I have gone to many blogs, and have read unspeakable things written by Obama supporters, who are just Hillary haters. Most of the time, they are rude, crude, sexist, and instead of focusing on issues, they excell in personal attacks. Go to her website, and you will see that what you are saying about Clinton supporters is not true. Your side typically focuses on personal attacks because he has really done very little politically. (please do not refer to his website, that incorrectly gives him credit for things he hasn't done). Start looking these things up by checking out the Congressional Records. Did you think voting "present" 64 times while in the Illinois senate is a good sign? Or what about his comment that he pushed the wrong button 6 times and voted the wrong way. Once, twice, three times? Six times???????? Our country is in a mess. We don't need somebody who is learning the job, while on the job. One choice that makes sense. Hillary 08!!!!!!!!

Some of you people are a little off based on Barack and here is why:
Barack is not only carismatic but eloquent in his efforts to bring together...our nation or the world for that matter has not seen this is many many years.
Igorance breeds fear...and all the Scarboroughs, Matthews and Hannity's of the world are facing a nation hungry for change...change we must have to improve our economy AND our stance on this planet. Not only will Barack beat McCain, he will beat him at his own game...he nor Hillary have been and never will be as tactful and sharp as Barack..Never. People are just jealous and yes ignorant.
People in this nation are scared of change, scared of taking a second look to think perhaps he COULD do us some good both at home and abroad. People let the members of the far right who has not done a damn thing for this nation as of late "scare' them. You are showing that you are truly ignorant.
And for all of you "Fake Democrats" that say that "I will vote for McCain if Obama wins, are not only an embarrasement to the party but are just plain mentally off balanced.
Barack will beat Hillary and smile while doing it...we all have seen proof of this.
And I can't wait until he gets his one on one with Grandpa McCain!! I'm gonna love every second of it!!
BTW...I am hightly educated and work for one of the worlds biggest and best known companies! I have all of my marbles...and you're damn right I'm a Democrat!
GOP=Grandpa's Oldman Party!

I wish that the media would stop turning Obama into the next Jesus Christ. To them Obama cant do no wrong and every word out of HIllary's mouth is critized over and over. Get real before it is too late. When all the trash about Obama starts coming out you are all going to feel as stupid as you sound now. Just think about partial birth abortion, Resko, unpatriotic Michelle, and what Mc Cain is going to do to him at future debates. The man mumbles too much and he is not going to get away with just saying "change, change, change" and using others' words as his own. The Republicans will sweep the floor with your golden boy. And I am going to be very happy if that happens. If Obama wins the nomination, I, like Michelle Obama stated about Hillary, would find it very difficult to vote for Barack.

Obama pictures a quiet moment to himself at the oval office where he says, "Wow, how cool". Obama is in for a rude awakening if he thinks he is going to have a quiet moment to himself on the first day of his presidency. I picture him going into panic mode when he is surrounded by his staff on the first day and pressured to make sound decisions. During one of the debates he scoffed at his lack of experience by stating that he would have the best advisors to help him with the decision-making. I have news for you Mr. Obama, the decision will ultimately rest on your shoulders
Posted by: Dennis | Feb 29, 2008 1:41:04 PM
Now, that makes me feel a lot better about Obama. He's going to sit at the desk in the oval office and say, "This is really cool." And I thought he lacked the bona fides to be the leader of the free world. Silly me---What was I thinking? Hillary, help us. Kick this guy to the curb in Texas AND Ohio. Please.
