Obama Talks Guns to Idaho Crowd

ABC's Sunlen Miller reports: In his first visit to Idaho as a presidential candidate, Obama channeled the movie "Groundhog Day" -– on Groundhog day -- accidentally flashing back to days of campaigning in Iowa.

Telling the 10,000 person Boise crowd not to believe false ideas spread about him, Obama said: "We’ve heard the usual sort of smear campaigns, I don’t know if they’ve trickled up to Iowa," Obama mistakenly said, then quickly corrected his location, "Idaho. I know they were in Iowa."

The quick recovery gave way to Obama going through his classic stump speech –- a tactic that Obama campaign strategists say is important in the final days before Super Tuesday -– as Obama has to introduce himself to states for the first time in a condensed schedule.

Appealing to the Idaho crowd, Obama threw in one extra line for his western audience, addressing gun rights, "There are people who say he doesn’t believe in the Second Amendment," Obama told the crowd, "We got a lot hunters in the state of Illinois and I have no intention of taking away folks' guns."

While Obama’s intention not is to not take away or ban guns, but is an advocate for gun control -– this consistency of his stance has been brought into question in the past. Obama said on a questionnaire in 1996 that he "supported banning the manufacture, sale and possession of handguns." Later he countered that this questionnaire was filled out by an aide who misrepresented his views. Since, he has had a legislative record supporting restrictions on gun ownership.

Obama’s tour moves to the Midwest with stops later today in Minnesota and Missouri.

Obama reminds me of a new teacher who was hired before being credentialed because we were short on teachers in the profession. Well, she claimed how throwing candies to the kids when they get answers correct in oral quizzing worked wonders. The seasoned teachers had to pull her aside and explain knowledge as an intrinsic reward. Obama seems to be throwing candy to the crowds, with no real, detailed plans discussed. It's an experience thing.

Presidency is the only one job which doesn't require training or experience because only incubents could say I have done it but even in that case yesterday events will not be today's or tomorrow's events. There is good experience and there is bad experience therefore Obama is promoting change in the way experienced politiciens are operating in the Hill and K-Street.

Making real reforms in government that have proven to benefit people, is experience. Something Obama lacks, even in his years in Illinois.

Barack supporters cane Hillary but can't seem to notice this man swerves with the best of them. He play up to the immigrant vote in California, White vote in Kansas, Black vote in Southern states and guns in mid west. You say Hillary is a not to be trusted well I hope you enjoy his sweet words as he explains why he isn't making goods on his promises and it is everyone elses fault. By the way just his present votes are identified by the legal bodies in Illinois as being for political safety nearly all of the time and it is the only state you can vote that way. A present vote vote does not stop anything being passed/killed if it has enough yea or nay votes. So in nearly all cases he made useless votes that achieved nothing and the bills were passed/stopped. The very organisation who asked him to vote present on the abortion bill openly say he wanted to vote yes but didn't because they told him not to and they told him it would protect him from the Republicans. So glad to see he knows how to vote to suit special interests as opposed to whathe knows is right. I thought he was in office to worry Republicans unless he had a larger plan and was putting his nomination prospects ahead of his state obligations.

When it comes to gun rights, Illinois is one of the most restrictive states in the union. It is one of only TWO states that does not allow qualified citizens to carry concealed weapons for personal protection if they choose to do so. Obama has talked about hunting before. He seems to think that is what the Second Amendment is all about. He is very much mistaken and I wish the Founders were here to correct his ignorance.

just watched abc news, a lot of obama coverage, very little of hillary. even abc, which isn't as bad as the rest, can't be evenhanded. and they showed obama saying he won't take away guns, but didn't mention his gun control stance. then they did an interview where they let him get away with answering the questions with his standard slogans. why oh why oh why is everyone so afraid of treating this man like any other candidate? oh, i forgot . . . (you know).

I can't wait till Hillary takes office:
All day care will be free.
Working Moms will get 6 months of paid maternity leave.
Affirmative action will require half of all CEOs be women.
Everyone will be able to get the very best medical care in the world and it will be completely free--unless you make over 100K/year.
There will never be a war
Wow! I can't wait.

This is the typical spin of Obama that very few people call him on. He goes to Idaho and says he is for the second amendment and that there is a "smear" campaign aganist him so that people think that whatever they hear about him when it comes to guns might not be true. He does not talk about his gun control positions as a Illinois senator which were even more restrictive and does not talk about where he stands on gun control in general and then the media and others do not call him on these mistortions of the truth.

A) about guns,,,,, the only reason the Russians never attempted a land invasion against the USA was that they did not want to deal with a potential hostile population who owned 200 million guns PLUS then have to deal with the US Military,,,this was a quote made by some Russian General several years ago..While we do need a longer period to decide if someone should own a gun and also the fact that the new owner of a weapon should attend a mandatory course given by the NRA, guns in the hands of honest citizens when knowing how to use them is positive,,,

#2....I firmly believe that Washington has been mismanaged for a long long time. Having an outsider come to power will not be a bad thing. Having Hilliary there will just let the usual big gov't stupidity continue on,,OBAMA is not a Washington insider and that is positive ,,,McCain has been there for a while but never was a cabinet member or pushed the button, so that is positive as he knows how things work,,,

May McCain or OBAMA win and let the others go cry all the way home,,,

Sorry, no disgrace intended but I misspelled Costitution, above. To much respect to let it go. America the Beautiful! God help us keep the United States Constitution.

does the clinton web site direct her supporters here to tarnish obama. Whether you are for obama or clinton, can't we respect both people who by the way are outstanding, why must we tear good people down for someone else to win

People who stick Obama bumper stickers on their car are going to rip their bumper off if Obama gets elected and they find out Obama lied to them in so many ways. Now Obama wants to license illegals when some Americans have a hard time getting license. Look at some of the pictures of Chicago where Obama and Rezko were supposed to help. They looked like they been bombed. We don't need Obamas experience.

j0hn edwa: If I have to pull off my Obama bumper sticker it will be because, as you state, I FOUND OUT he lied to me. I don't have a Hillary bumper sticker because I already KNOW she is lying to me.

Please Mr Barack Hussein Obama, show me the part of the US Constitution that talks about hunting and hunters.

Posted by: haris pilton | Feb 4, 2008 11:32:03 AM

Glad to see there are true American's piped in..Constitution for sure, I agree w/Colfax, Founding Fathers would take care of the lack of respect for this country, no way would this crud be happening. Leave America if you don't like our ways, don't stay here and try to change our heritage. I don't want any feed back about stuff prior to Civil war either- we were supposed to have evolved and barried the hatchet then. Thank you

I found it funny that Obama didn't truly apologize for the remark about people cling to religion and guns. I personally hope he doesn't win because I get a weird feeling about him. maybe it is just a gut feeling but I trust my gut feeling. My gut is saying, "don't trust this man, he isn't right for this country."

Anyways... What do you think about Obama?
