Ron Paul - Looking Forward To Texas

ABC News' Z. Byron Wolf Reports: Texas Congressman Ron Paul did not have a stellar showing on Super Tuesday. But it was good enough for him to stay in the race.

In most states with primaries where Republican voters voted for their Republican nominee preference, he got no more than 5 or six percent of the vote. He runs a distant fourth in the all-important delegate count.

Paul did better in the Northern Midwest caucus states, placing second in Montana, third in North Dakota and fourth, but with 15 percent of the vote in Minnesota. He also placed third with 17 percent at the Alaska Republican caucus and, despite a fourth place finish in initial voting, got 3 national convention votes in a backroom deal with former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee in West Virginia.

Those finishes, while they won't secure Paul a huge chunk of votes at the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis this summer, are enough for him to stay in the race, according to his campaign spokesman, Jesse Benton, who yesterday said Paul would reevaluate after Super Tuesday and described Paul's quest for the White House as "not completely quixotic."

Paul had said earlier in the campaign that he would look at Super Tuesday as a gauge for his presence in the race. As long as the support and the fundraising remained, he said he would stay in it. Paul is over $5 million in fundraising this year.

But Paul was the only candidate not to host a party for supporters to rally after the Super Tuesday results. his campaign schedule is light in the near future. On Thursday Paul speaks to the conservative CPAC convention link: http://www.cpac.org/. He will stay in Washington for the rest of the week to vote in the House of Representatives and he has a rally for his Congressional campaign, being run concurrently with his Presidential one, scheduled in his hometown this weekend.

Today, Benton said Paul has no plans to drop out yet and looks forward to the Texas, his home state, where he ran second only to the departed candidacy of Rudy Giuliani in 4th quarter 2007 fundraising and hopes he will do well with the state's large military population. Paul gets more donations from military service members than any other candidate.

The only mistake Ron Paul has made in this election is that he has told the TRUTH....

Nation of change: McCain or Hillary...Pack your bags kids we're moving to Europe.

Mr. 100 years war McCain got the anti-war vote..??? He, by his own admission, has NO understanding in how to fix the economy. So if he wants perpetual war, and he can't help the financial crisis, what the heck are people voting for??? Ah that's right. An easy mark for Hilliary. Thanks Rupert Murdoch, no wonder your donating to her campaign. If McCain is the canidate, the Republicans will stay home. Get ready for four years of Hilliary. When she gets the White House, the Republicans will have no one to blame but themselves. Bob Dole didn't work in '96. And McCain won't work in '08. You really think the media will keep propping up his campaign when he runs against her. Just sit back and wait for the knives to come out. He will be carved up by the press... who OWNS him. I juat wish the party wouldn't be oh so willing to have to be sacrificed along with him. Oh well, they deserve it, even if the people (who will have to pay the REAL price for all this) DON'T. Thanks ALOT GOP!!!

Get ready for another Jimmy Carter...(Hillary/Obama)Does anyone remember what happened when Ford got the nomination over Reagan?

Posted by: Jim | Feb 6, 2008 2:28:16 PM

Your comparison to Carter is apt. Obama's foriegn policy adviser is Zibigniev Brezinzski. Carter's former advisor that created and funded the mujuhadeen in Afghanistan. The same force we are convieniently fighting a war on terror today. I guess if your gonna fight 'em, you might as well take advice and listen to the guy who CREATED them. After all that kinda judgement served us so well on 911. Why isn't he in jail? He shoud be no where near ANY president, let alone in a position to "advise" him. He is the Democrat's version of Cheney. The man is insane.

cba The same media that ignored the trangrssions of the Clintons in the past seem to have turned on them at this point...and I think that you are correct in your predictions regarding what will happen to McCain if he has to face the general election...it seems as though the media is picking and supporting McCain because he will be the easiest opponent to beat.

God bless Ron Paul for opening the minds, especially of young people, to different economic and political possibilities and to a hope that the status quo can be changed and a return to the Constituional form of government can be made. It only takes a few committed and highly motivated individuals to sway the ignorant and sleepy-eyed masses, as many quiet revolutions have shown. Ron Paul's message has sparked a revolution of the mind against the tyranny our government has become. He has people reading and thinking again -and yes, even voting again. For those I am forever thankful, because I have two sons who embrace those new and yet very old ideals that were America when our Constitution was written. So God bless Ron Paul, and let us all hope he is able to continue his message for many years to come whether he makes it to the White House or whether he remains in the US House of Representatives.

If it was McCain, your title would be "McCain places second with 25%!".

But, since it was Ron Paul, you ignore the 25% return. You only reference the lower 3%, 5%, 15%, the 17% values.

There is no democracy in the USA when a few corporations owned and control the main stream media and "managed" the news instead reporting the news.

Ron Paul has a party planned for the weekend.

Well shannon, sounds like your an Obama kind of guy.The message of helping the disadvantaged is always popular at election time but does printing more money really help the poor?I know a rational discussion of economics is gauranteed to make your eyes start to glaze over but I will risk it for just a second. The national debt-9 trillion dollars.$60,000 for every working person in America.300 billion every year of your taxes in interest payments.China buys a trillion of our debt?So if they get mad at us in the future and dump this debt on the market what's that going to do to the dollar as the reserve currency to the world? If the dollar crashes then who gets hurt the worst? The poor. I know because I'm one of them. So when the republicrats say they are going to help this constituency or that one,it can only be done by printing more money.I'm never going to pay off that 60 grand so that's another 60 that you are going to.Wait, my old lady can't either so there is another $60,000 for you.Happy new year!

I agree that this situation will never be solved, hey, I am one of them too. I don't have much debt to my name, however; being a single mom earning next to nothing and going to college, I have "NO" money to spare. I am a Ron Paul supporter, let me tell you, it's all over my My Space. Unfortunately, we can't have Hillary as president so Oboma gets the my vote. Seems kind of like another Nader situation to me... Anyone but Hillary... I did hear Nader may still run as long as he can raise enough money.. hmmm, I like him, I would go his way this time!
