Senate Leader Writes Off Huckabee, Paul
February 07, 2008 4:12 PM
ABC News' Z. Byron Wolf Reports: The Presidential race came up on Capitol Hill for the second time in two days after former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney withdrew from the race for the Republican nomination.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., did not use the "E" (for endorsement) word today, but he essentially wrote off the Presidential campaigns of Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul when asked about the Mitt Romney withdrawing from the race.
"It's clear the Republican nomination is over," said McConnell. He went on to say there is "widespread pride" on Capitol Hill for Senator John McCain, who McConnell said, "is certainly going to be the nominee."
McCain has in the past fashioned himself as a maverick and can be prickly when he does not agree with someone (and often does not agree with his fellow Republicans on policy).
But today, McConnell said, "I think in the Republican conference we are particularly proud of Senator McCain and his accomplishment."
He also said he looks forward to correcting the adage that Senators can't be elected President.
Senator Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., jokingly took credit for Mitt Romney dropping out of the race.
"He met me in Salt Lake last Saturday," Reid said of Romney. Both Reid, who is a Democrat and the Senate Majority Leader and Romney, a Republican and the former Massachusetts governor are Mormon. "We hadn't met before then. That was the beginning of the end for him," Reid said.

Noris will not be happy with this news and MH was the second one in the race, so that will be difficult for him. Maybe the VP will be OK for him to make the conservatives happy.

Huck is just getting started.

Ron Paul is this nation's only hope as a presidential candidate, republican or democrat, to put the brakes on a runaway federal government. He understands that civil and religious liberty lie in limited government which translates into limited taxation, sound monetary policies for economic stability, and personal responsibility for one's family, education, and faith. We are on the verge of demise as a nation (morphing to North American Union and the Amero currency) if he doesn't win since no other candidate seems to truly understand the God-given fundamentals for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, as represented in his Comprehensive Economic Revitalization Plan, his proved Congressional record, and his position letters. His personal life is a resounding witness of a Christian who understands the Scriptures and lives by them. He’s the man for this critical hour in the USA. HE DESERVES THE VOTE OF TRUE CONSERVATIVES.
Thank you conservative Americans for helping him to overcome the startling and appalling un-American media blackout and discrimination against an honorable, ten-term Congressman.

Huck has a base in the South and will at least get the VP slot. Without Romney there is a clear choice for GOP voters from the two POVs.

As somebody who had the misfortune of being represented by Mitch the .... I can assure you that his views are far from reality and have no weight to anything. Example: Mitch hated (with good reason) the campaign finance bill. Now where just supposed to let it slide that John has empowered big money and millionaire canidates, at the expense of the voice of everybody else. I think not. Mitch saluting John just shows how shallow his principles truly are. True conservatives are repulsed by McCain and will stay home or vote someone else rather than waste a vote on a RINO.

Unless there is a policy I am not aware of, since when is the race over before you cross the finish line. Let the people be the people, talk when the facts can back the walk. Go Huckabee!

Hahaha... McConnel's desperately trying to brush Ron Paul under the rug now that it'll be a lot harder for the media (and voters!) to ignore him. Let's see how far that wishful thinking gets him.
