Bill Clinton Says He's Happy the Election Process Is a Long One
March 07, 2008 11:24 PM
ABC News' Sarah Amos reports: The sight of Bill Clinton -- stumping to a crowd of eager Democrats on a snowy night seems much more appropriate for Iowa in Decemeber than Mississippi in March -- but by now most voters have come to expect the unusual when it comes to presidential politics.
So as snow rolled into Tupelo, Miss., so did the former president -- eager to tell the Democrats of Mississippi why Hillary was the best choice for President.
Clinton spoke at a fish fry being sponsored by the camapign. The former president showed up long after the crispy fish had been devoured, but told the crowd he was holding out hope for some.
"I hope you got some fish, this is supposed to be a fish fry. More important I hope I get some before I have to leave," Clinton said.
Clinton spoke for around an hour, sharing Hillary's plans for everything from solving the health crisis in America to making America more energy efficient.
Clinton began his speech by acknowledging the campaign's excitment over their victories in Ohio and Texas.
"This has been an amazing week for my whole family. We had a great night Tuesday in Texas and Ohio and Rhode Island," Clinton began. "I told some of the folks I met backstage that it looked like a re-make of that movie 'Troy,' we had 100,000 people volunteering on both sides. I thought there was going to be blood in the streets. It was great."
Clinton also acknowledged the extrodinary circumstances that have carried this nomination process farther than anyone expected. The crowd of more than 1,000 in Tupelo probably understands that better than most. Many voters commented that more attention has been given to their primary this year than they can ever remember from years past.
"This is the darndest campaign I ever saw in my life. It just goes on and on, but I like that," Clinton told the crowd.
"A lot of people think it ought to be shut down. I don't. With the last election in June, June the 7th, everybody acts like that's the end of the world. That's good for the Democrats," Cinton continued. "Let these elections go on. Let the people have their say. Let the debates go on. This is a good deal. It will make sure that we can win in November and we CAN win in November!"
With the birthplace of Elvis serving as Tupelo's main claim to fame, President Clinton couldn't resist at least one Elvis mention.
"I'm especially glad to be here because when I ran for president in '92 my code name with the Secret Service was Elvis and it's a good thing it's still early so I won't try to prove it," Clinton jokingly told the crowd.

Bill is great! I miss him being president. For those of you who think it was SO bad, ask yourself this: were you better off - financially - eight years ago that you are now? Everyone I know says: YES!!!!

Bill was the greatest contemporary President in our history. Even the Republicans admit he is the most politically astute politician they know. But what impresses me most is that he fulfilled most of his campaign promises, kept Osama Bin Laden on the run and too busy to cause more havoc for us (after the first WTC bombing and the USS Cole), paid for peace around the world, brought peace to Northern Ireland, brokered peace talks in the Middle East, raised our status within the UN, worked to help reduce poverty worldwide, dealt with our debt and deficit so well we had a surplus, accomplished the only balanced federal budget in 4 of the last 35 years, and brought the greatest economic prosperity to the country and the world in modern history. Yes I miss those times and do not believe we will have them again without Senator Hillary Clinton become our next President.

great story. Bill was the best Pres. in my lifetime. We were able to put our two children through college and paid for it without loans or any debt. (My husband is a blue collar worker and I didn't work). That says alot!!! He is very smart about the world. I can't wait for him to be back in the White House with HILLARY!!! We need to get the economy working for US!!!

Bill is happy any time he can be in the spotlight. But it's a good thing he is busy - you know what they say about idle hands.

I think Bill should give me a break by releasing tax return and shady family deal account across the world.

I thought Obama people are supposed to be above hate, but they seem to be so angry and aggressive and full of hateful words and thoughts. Obama is a blank slate for his supporter to project their lost dreams.

Allain Jules, thanks for giving me a reason to vote for Sen. Hillary in May. You Obama supporters are what caused Obama to lose this past week with your behavior and tone of voice! Think before you speak and then grow up, will you!

You all must be kidding!

And who do you think is best Prez?
Both Bushes who skewered our economy back to back?
Reagan who placed us all, unborn included, on debt while few got filthy rich?
Don't think so.
I think Bill deserved the blow, cholo.
Hey that was the only faulty award he got. It was inspiring, at least for him, that 50 something can still get it up,despite stress, AND no viagra needed.
It was consexual between adults, and Hillary forgave them both, what is with you people. Get it over with.
Better yet, get your own inspiration.

Bill said that the race would be over for Hillary if she would lose Ohio and/or Texas.
It seems pretty sure now that Hillary DID lose Texas in the overall primary + caucuses results. Not only will Obama win a majority of pledged delegates; he'll even win the majority of the total popular vote.
This should be BIG NEWS already in the MSM, but the MSM want to drag this thing on and on - babbling about Bill Clinton - because reporting this race is such a lucrative business for them. The MSM has left the path for truth and only walks the path for Big Money these days.

No one likes to return to the past, its now about moving forward. Moving the country toward the future with "CHANGE". The past has gone and we cant rewind it back!

I can not wait to get the Clintons out of the news.He is the worst president and Plain Jane if he is the best in your life time you can't be very old...He can not be trusted nor she. They are for themselves and always have been the more they get from everyone the better.

All of us here in Ohio agree, bill clinton was THE best president ...not husband...for this nation in our generation...
my father is a d day vet and retired judge...and says bill clinton reminded him of fdr simply the best thing for the common man since FDR
my father grew up in DEEP WVA during the depression fought WWII beginning on a French BEach and knew both John Glenn and Jack Kenned personally
and never lost a political race in 35 years...
so...i think he knows a true leader when he 'sees' one...
by the way..i'm a civil rights lawyer and Bill Clinton's DOJ was simply far and away the BEST since Robert Kennedy was the AG
hands down and there's a demonstrated record to prove it, even right here in southern Ohio
finally...appalachian Ohio was visited by the clintons over 11 times in one month ...in every poor and working poor town in the south of Ohio
Obama never ONCE visited us and we were open to him...
That was his death knell...too much media "hype" and his rich liberal supporters, who have forgotten what the real RFK truly came and saw here in this part of the country...and with that Obama lost a historic opportunity...
he knows it too but maybe next time
maybe AFTER the Clintons give us back
true hope and a solid economy ...

Dr. Austan "NAFTA" Goolsbee, Dr. Susan "No One's Ready for the Call" Rice, and Dr. Sam "Monster" Power are three important advisers to Obama.

How can people believe that Bill and Hillary are glad about how this race is going. They thought Hillary was a shoe in and this would be done by Super Tuesday. Comments like this are why the Clintons continue to fail the sincerity test. Come on.

Billy, hurt the armed forces, knocked reality out from under the economic balance and demened the office. If that was not enought he copped a plea on his last day in office and remains a fellon.
This is one of the three worst records ever. You guys need to do some study, and of course you wont.
