Clinton Addresses Ferraro Resignation
March 12, 2008 8:36 PM
ABC News' Eloise Harper reports: Sen. Hillary Clinton received some tough questions from the National Newspapers Publishers Association in Washington -- ranging in subject from former President’s Clinton’s comments about Jesse Jackson to Geraldine Ferraro. For the first time, Clinton addressed Ferraro's departure from her campaign.
“I said yesterday that I rejected what she said, and I certainly do repudiate it," Clinton said. "I regret deeply that it was said. Obviously, she doesn’t speak for the campaign, she doesn’t speak for any of my positions. And she has resigned from being a member of my very large finance committee.”
Clinton spoke in a relaxed and somber tone as she fielded questions from this African American publishers association.
Clinton was told that her husband’s comments about Jesse Jackson were offensive to the African American community and she was asked how she would re-build ties.
“Well, I want to put that in context," she said. "I am sorry if anyone was offended it was not meant in any way to be offensive.”
Clinton added, “I think that we can be proud of both Jesse Jackson and Sen. Obama. People who go into the arena deserve our appreciation because it is not easy being in public life and, especially, running for president. So I think that from the historical context ,the fact that we are all out there and running is very significant. That doesn’t take away from anybody who came before or what we are doing today.”

I don't know why Hillary Fans can't just admit and Hillary MAY have made a mistake on the Irak War Vote.
To error is human and all......she is human isn't she?
I mean you got 10 of thousand of dead and disabled Americans; even more Irakis, a 3 Trillion Dollar price tag.
You got the lost opportunity costs, i.e., toil and treasure that coulda been spent protecting the nation's infrastructure, chemical plants, nuclear plants, ports, datasystems, etc. You got the negative goodwill throughout the world created by the war.
And UBL is still alive in Pakistan and the Taliban is reconstituting in Afghanistan.
This is not rocket science folks. Even Senator Colburn-OK has admitted that invading Irak may not have been a good idea.
Any takers?
Could HRC have made a mistake?
Naw. Couldn't have happened.

thetruth - dont forget Clinton won the coast of Mississippi... remember the areas devastated by the Hurricane that the Bush administration failed to help? Both of the Clinton's worked hard to help victims and they remembered. It is nice to see some people are not swayed by race and pay attention to the real records and proposals of the candidates on the issues that matter.

I'm sick & tired of David Axelrod and company using the race card at every opportunity. Obama stands above the fray and then Axelrod and surrogates do the dirty work. Why have they spent so much time trying to discredit Bill Clinton and his entire presidency? Bill Clinton appointed the following people to his cabinet: Ron Brown, Sec of Commerce, African American, Alexis Herman, Sec of Labor, African American, Hazel O'Leary, Sec of Energy first term, African American, Bill Richardson, Sec of Energy, second term, Hispanic, Henry Cisneros, Sec of Housing & Urban Dev, Hispanic, Donna Shalala, Sec of Health & Human Services, Madeline Albright, Sec of State, Janet Reno, Attorney General, Joselyn Elders, Surgeon General, African American and Vernon Jordan headed the Clinton Transition Team, African American

Well I take back my earlier post. It was heartfelt and conciliatory. Like can't we all come to some agreement. Well I just watched Keith Olberman and I don't feel that it wil now be possible. He as much said that Hillary was a racist and Bill too. Well thats just too much for me to take. I have been a democrat my whole life and have taken pride in the fact that I would never vote for someone with an R in front of their name. I am so outraged at his race baiting that I will now vote for John McCain if Hillary does not get the nomination. It is the only way that those of us who support Bill and Hillary Clinton can show that we are as mad as hell and not going to take it anymore!

I don't expect Obama to look out for me, that is not the reason I will vote for him.
Obama will look out for the American people. As a President, Obama only has four or eight years to accomplish a lot of things. I know in my heart, that Obama will do his best to accomplish what he can for the American people.

dont forget to point out that Obama still has not apologized for his wife's inappropriate remarks implying Hillary Clinton is at fault for Bill cheating even though he repudiated his military surrogate for it he has not fired him. In fact, that surrogate once again attacks Clinton personally because she is a woman and implies a man needs to be answering the redphone at 3 am... Obama says nothing... voters should be outraged at the sexism Obama continues to abide by and allow... including that of his own wife.

DCVoter - that's great, but it pales in comparison to the rest of the state who ignored that fact where 90+% of blacks voted for Obama who had no hand in helping the Katrina victims. Like I said, Obama won't be out there looking out for the blacks who voted for him, he has his own agenda. Has he even thanked the black community who voted for him? Stop voting for him because he's black.. make intelligent assessments of the two candidates and vote for the better candidate who has the best vision for our country not the best speeches and poetry readings.

I am amazed how so many people will use every excuse to support their own prejudiceness.
It's not Obama, Michelle, Hillary or Ferraro's fault, it is you. It is the way you feel deep down.
Admit it.
Posted by: Jack | Mar 12, 2008 10:32:21 PM
DCVoter,
I never said that I was voting for Obama because he was black. Why can't it be because of his qualifications.
That is the deep-rooted racism that I speak about.
In your mind, there is no way Obama can be qualified. It HAS TO BE because he is black. Your words are similar to Ferraro's.
Shame!
Posted by: Jack | Mar 12, 2008 10:38:03 PM
Yes is't it nice how Keith Olberman can with a straight face call Bill and Hillary Clinton racists at the same time his partner Chris Matthews makes sexist statements about Hillary and how David Shuster says that they are "pimping out" their daughter . Where is the outrage about these comments Mr. Olberman? Where is the special comment on Ms Powers and all the other nasty comments about the clintons? It seems that Mr. Olberman just became the worse person in the world for his race baiting!

HILLARY HAS MADE A MISTAKE WHEN VOTING TO GIVE BUSH, THE DECEIFUL, THE POWER HE DID NOT AND DOES NOT DESERVE. OBAMA WAS RIGHT FIRST. BUT HIS THREE VOTES TO FUND THE WAR HE WAS SO PROUD TO OPPOSE BELIE HIS TRUE CONVICTION AND ABILITY TO STAND FIRM IN WHAT HE BELIEVES. IF HE IS AS SMART AS HE IS LED TO BELIEVE, HE SHOULD KNOW THAT "SUPPORT THE TROOPS" IS AN OXMORON, A TWISTED PHRASE DESIGNED TO SCARE PEOPLE FOR BEING "UNPATRIOTIC" IF THEY DON'T VOTE TO FUND THE WAR CONTINUOUSLY. WITH OBAMA'S INTELLIGENCE, HE SHOULD KNOW THAT THE ONLY WAY TO "SUPPORT THE TROOPS" IS TO BRING THEM HOME AND OUT OF HARM'S WAY BY NOT GIVING ANYMORE MONEY TO THE WAR EXCEPT WHAT WAS NEEDED TO BRING THE TROOPS HOME. OBAMA WAS RIGHT FIRST, BUT HE WAS WRONG, DEAD WRONG SUBSEQUENTLY. HE IS NOT AS SMART OR UPRIGHT AS HE IS MADE OUT TO BE IF HE WAS SCARED INTO FUNDING THE WAR AND DARED NOT STAND HIS GROUND.

Jack did you read what he said!!!!

I compared the qualifications of the candidates based on their resumes, voting records, accomplishments, activities, and awards without using any of the First Lady years for Clinton. She is clearly more qualified than Obama.
I listened to the speeches of both (actually listened while reading the closed captioning since I am legally deaf) and Obama is a "preacher type" and Clinton is an "information type" in terms of how they speak. I am not inspired by words without action. I am inspired by words with actions behind them. Obama missed his calling as a televangelist. LOL In time, if he is vetted ok on the Rezko issues, I think he can mature and gain experience that might make him qualified.
When you are the board of directors and the stockholders representatives, and you need to hire someone to head up the company/organization, you dont hire the one who "interviews" well if they dont have the strongest credentials of the available short list candidates. If you do, then you are taking unwise risks.

Was it not racial fearmongering when Mr. Obama said at the debate in Ohio that he accepted the fact that Hillary had nothing to do with the distribution of a public photo of him in african garb. Then he goes down to MS and tells a mostly black audience that she was responsible for it. He implied that she was smearing a black man. He say one thing to the people of Ohio and the country and another one to his black supporters in Ms in order to get them all worked up. That is racism at its worse!

I refer to Will and Carlton as Will and Carlton. I dont refer to either of them by race.
I have friends and family who are black, white, hispanic, spanish, cuban, dominican, haitian, puerto rican, german, irish, jewish, french, italian, catholic, buddhist, ... and the list goes on. But we are all Americans first and we all agree with Ferraro because we listened to what she said instead of watching a media sound byte quoted out of context. We also agree with the statistical disparities in these elections based on expert analyses along with our own. Our education ranges from high school to doctorate but all of us are intelligent voters who care what happens in the world not just America. Our loyalties are not to any political party but to our country. For now we choose between two dem candidates and hope to vote for the best one and not against the worst one. In November, the same will be true. In a race between Clinton and McCain, her choice of running mate is irrelevant to us because she is her own woman and will win our vote. In a race between Obama and McCain, our vote depends entirely on his choice for running mate and the outcome of the Rezko trial.

JACKSON, MISS. -- Barack Obama continued to go after Hillary Clinton this evening, accusing her of using “Republican tactics” against him.
“When in the midst of a campaign you decide to throw the kitchen sink at your opponent because you’re behind,” he said, “and your campaign starts leaking photographs of me when I’m traveling overseas wearing the native clothes of those folks to make people afraid, and then you run an ad talking about who’s going to answer the phone at three in the morning, an ad straight out of the Republican playbook, that’s not real change.”
Tonight's comments were the most direct criticism from Obama regarding the distribution of the photo of him in traditional African garb. The Clinton campaign denied having anything to do with the photos when they were initially published, and the issue seemed to have faded until Obama brought it up tonight.
The two Democratic contenders have ramped up the rhetoric in recent weeks. Last Thursday, Clinton’s campaign spokesman Howard Wolfson accused Obama of using “Ken Starr”-type tactics, alluding to the independent counsel that led to the impeachment of Bill Clinton. The Clinton campaign was upset about Obama’s camp pushing reporters to ask about the Clinton’s tax returns. The Obama campaign called those allegations “absurd.”
A large crowd of mostly supporters booed whenever Obama mentioned Clinton’s name. As he often does, Obama began his criticism of Clinton by expressing his respect for her. However, despite the polite introduction, he quickly turned on her, saying that she accepts money from lobbyists, wavered on NAFTA, and is part of the status quo in Washington.
“Everybody always asks 'well, how come you haven’t already wrapped this up? Well, it’s because there are a lot of very powerful people who are doing very well under the existing system,” he said. “So they resist. They’ve got power and they’ve got money. But what we’ve got are the American people.”

Who really cares about Ferarro when our country is at War, our economy is going down the drain, and we have a candidate who is running for President who claims to have used cocaine on a regular basis?
I cannot justify voting for Obama, especially after seeing the stories on ABCNews, FoxNews, and other Internet sources
Posted by: Peter | Mar 12, 2008 11:05:07 PM
What Obama need to do now is to explain to AA adn whites how come it is that eleven Rezmar buildings were in the state Senate district Obama represented between 1996 and 2004.
Many of the buildings ended up in foreclosure, with tenants living in squalid conditions without heat in winter, dirty and dilapidated.
Is this what he is offering to give us if he happens to become President, Obama really needs to step up to the plate and start to answer some of these question as to how all this went unnoticed by him when he was in the senate, or did he turn a blind eye because of his friendship to Rezko.

yes russell - i saw that and was not shocked actually... he has done the race baiting all along since his wife started it last year during the speeches and interviews when she said "Black America will wake up"...
And Jack? it seems you and others are assuming I am male or hispanic LOL I intentionally do not reveal race or gender online because it generally leads to preudicial assumptions just like that... based on your posts I have read over the past few weeks, it was clear to me that you support Obama which is your right... I did not mean to imply you in particular support him because of race... my statements are based on "group" support by race because the numbers indicate it based on the shift of the black voting bloc and the pressure on black SDs to switch to Obama based on race

HILLARY CLINTON handled this whole matter with sheer class. I give her an A+. This is a good example of what it takes to be a star quality President, and Commander-in-Chief. You take appropriately measured steps and speak with clarity as to your reasoning. It's about leadership a skill that HILLARY certainly shines at. This is a good lesson for some of the cro magnons that are chortling for blood on this blog.
