Clinton Dodges Questions About Rezko

BC News' Eloise Harper reports: Sen. Hillary Clinton marched in the Pittsburgh St. Patrick's Day Parade on Saturday. She avoided a few beads that were thrown in her direction and sailed through few “O’bama” signs and chanters -– but despite that she waved to her supporters and members of the community dressed in green who welcomed the senator.

Clinton spoke to reporters on the campaign plane before departing to go to Scranton, Pa. Clinton was asked about the recent developments with Rezko and the relationship Obama has with Jeremiah Wright. Clinton said these questions should be directed to Sen. Obama –- and when asked if there were more questions to be asked about Rezko, Clinton said, “Well, I think that there are a lot of questions and those questions deserve answers. I know that those questions are beginning to be asked but they should be directed to Sen. Obama.”

Clinton reiterated her position on Florida and Michigan primaries, saying, “I have the same position I have always had. Either count the votes or revote. And it appears as though Michigan is considering re-voting. And we will see whether that comes to pass. And then I don’t know what Florida will decided to do. I feel really strongly about this because, you know, the 2.5 people who voted deserve to be counted. And if it would be my preference to count their votes. But if not, they should have the opportunity to have a full-fledged primary waged for them and re-vote.”

When informed that Obama staffers were meeting in Michigan to decide what to do with the votes, Clinton was asked what she thought the Obama campaign should do. Clinton laughed, saying, “I have no idea. I don’t know.” She continued, “I just want Michigan to make a decision. Michigan is trying very hard to make a decision. From what I understand, their legislature is actually going to consider this next week, and I think that they are moving in the appropriate direction to have a re-vote. Otherwise, they should just count the votes. And if they are not going to do that, then they should give people an opportunity to once again express their opinion about this race.”

Clinton was also asked about why she thought that by winning the big states she has an advantage over Obama for the general election.

“You have to look at what the electoral map is likely to be in the fall," she said, "and I don’t think anybody doubts that a Democrat has to have a number of the big states anchored in order to put together the electoral votes needed to win.”

Clinton continued, “I think it is significant that I have won Ohio and I won Florida and I have won the big states that would serve as those anchors for the electoral map. And I also think its significant because those states represent a much broader cross section of the voters that we are gong to need to win in the fall.”

Clinton was asked to define her role helping to bring peace to Northern Ireland. A reporter said, “obviously you are not George Mitchell,” to which Clinton said, “That’s true, I’m not.” Clinton defended her role and then offered a jab to her opponent saying, “I understand the desire of my opponent to try to nit pick and try to bring people out to say things, but I think the record is very clear and one can look at many different sources.  I don’t know how many times Sen Obama has met with the secretary of state from Northern Ireland, and I really feel very privileged that I played a role.”

jll - so a voter turnout in FL that was twice as high as the primary turnout in 2004 with both Obama and Clinton's names on the ballot, Obama running campaign ads on TV, the debates being broadcast on TV, the internet being available in FL, ... do you really think the will of the voters was not legitimately cast? I am sure the residents of FL would not agree with you and would consider you as unAmerican as those who disenfranchised them on that day and in previous elections... As an Independent, I think the DNC made a stupid arrogant decision to try to control which states vote when... but I wont dismiss the will of the voters in FL because of Dean and the cronies on the committee that decided to have that rule... in any case, the revote will either happen or they will likely compromise in some way to seat the delegates because they cant afford to lose FL to the reps without a fight in Nov

Elsies-Us democrats are not afraid of having a real primary with real issues and real questions. But hang in there. We'll get around to you guys later. And as you can see for yourself this time around us democrats are merely rounding out into fine fighting form. And when we do get around to you republicans only God can show you mercy because we won't.

We want Obama not his minister, not his past experience in Congress or Government nor do we care that his skin is black but because we think that he can do the job that we as a country require. Each man/woman carries a vote for himself, that vote is always visible. We don't want Hillary. She just wants to be president and says whatever she needs to say to get the vote. In the past, each president has made promises I.E. "I will have your boys home before Christmas" 5 years later the boxes stopped, the conflict ended. "Two chickens in every pot" just before the crash of 1929. "Unite the Country" He did, we are all on the verge of bankruptcy. "No child left behind" Now, we have a generation of children with "C" minus of less for the country's future.
If you search History, those who brought us down always promised specifically what we needed to hear the most at the time of his speech.
HOPE; is a word that describes an opportunity for those who have given up "TRYING", for a college education, a home, a good job, hospitalization for the family. Hope give a people what they have been lacking, a new found faith and therefore a desire to TRY; to rebuild this country and to focus all the people in America not a people in another country. Sure, we can help but, to take the life blood and give it to another while all of our systems inside of our infrastructure fails. (Bridge fell in Minnesota, what are we doing about it? No one spoke about infrastructure repair employment programs until Obama) That is what kills all hope and any faith that we hadve as a Country. Lets get together without our emotions and with a president that will listen and bring this country back to a competative position in the world.

"DCVoter",
Hillary Clinton continues to show class and leadership. This article was wrongly title, inappropriately using the term dodging as if it were Clinton who had something to hide, when Clinton stands in integrity on this whole matter. This is another case of "PRESS GONE WILD".

Let's get this straight. Rezko is Obama's problem, not Clinton. Yes, she and many other politicians received donations just like you and I have given to these campaigns. However, there is no evidence showing that Clinton did anything in return.

On the other hand, Obama received more than $100K from Rezko. He even bough the adjacent lot on the property. Just educate yourself on http://www.abcnews.go.com/Blotter/story?id=4392835&page=1

and

for the cesspool of corruption. Besides, Hussein's real problem is that he has been caught lying about "I never heard these kind of sermons from Rev. Wright". Just wait ... Hussein Obama is toast.

Round 2 of the Iowa delegate conventions are going on this weekend... I wonder what impact the Wright and Rezko issues are going to have on the delegates and alternates? Where will delegates projected for Edwards go? Will the continued vetting affect them once again in June at their state convention? Gotta love politics!

per newsweek:

"On Saturday, the 13,485 precinct-level delegates who committed to the candidates on caucus night will travel to county conventions, where they will select delegates to the district and state conventions scheduled for April and June. (These delegates will then go on to appoint Iowa's 45 national delegates.) None of Iowa's delegates--precinct, district or state--are bound to their candidates; a Clintonite can flip to Obama and an Obamaniac can flip to Clinton. "

George - i respect your right to free speech but please dont misquote me LOL you will not ever see me saying God Bless anything in a political discussion... I strongly believe in the separation of church and state. As for accusations of paid bloggers? I was accused of it weeks ago and several people asked me if Obama had paid bloggers and I stated we only have rumors and the Freedom of Information Act may not apply to campaigns to prove it one way or another... as an online professional, I would say it is likely since there are a lot of paid bloggers and moderators all over the Internet... i personally do not get paid to blog but it would be great if i did!... i dont think there is anything wrong with it... it is how the blogosphere works to increase page views that are used to increase the price of advertising real estate etc... but i do think those who are paid to blog should stay up to date... cant take a joke? ok thats fine :)

Florida-Voter106-Are you actually saying there is a state called Florida? Are you? And if you somehow claim to be a state that's impossible. You did know that the Obama camp and their supporters have given the former states of Florida and Michigan away to some organization called republicans, did you not know? The Obama camp have claimed you people in Florida or Michigan no longer exist.

hiya WestCoastMessenger - yes I agree but hey that is how the news peeps "tease" people into clicking the link to read the article... truthfully, I thought it would be an article legitimately relating Rezko to Clinton... but so far we have not seen that happen... i think she had the correct response to the reporter's questions

This is the media hoping and trying to take the heat off of barry obama. SHE didnt give them anything. (Ha Ha)

MattOhio - aside from the hate speech, i find his language like that and the sexual gestures not only demeaning but inappropriate for a mixed congregation (children are present)... it is disturbing that Obama and other parents in that congregation expose their children to that stuff... i think it is good that Obama rejects inappropriate statements by Wright including the sermon about Bill "riding dirty"... but the poor judgement up till now and the lying about not knowing about them until now is what bothers me about Obama as a candidate... i am glad I have always supported Clinton and no longer support Obama as a running mate

The Michigan & Florida delegates should not be counted and there should not be another vote. The states should not have moved their primaries.

I can't wait until we can get back to real issues of policy, but the press and the Clinton campaign don't seem interested. As an Irish-American, I'm offended by Hillary Clinton's "wee bit silly" claim that she contributed to peace in Ireland. As an American-American, I don't think she should be pointing fingers regarding Rezko, who also contributed to the Clintons.

Posted by: malthusian77 | Mar 15, 2008 4:14:15 PM

Ray-So your solution is to give FL and MI to the republicans even before the general begins? I'd be interested in your strategy of winning the White House now.

Posted by: Dogsoldier | Mar 15, 2008 4:14:19 PM

Malthusian77-Gerry Adams, the Sinn Fein leader, told the “Irish Times”that “Senator Clinton played an important role in the peace process” So if the IRA leader say Clinton did her thing he should know as it was the IRA who had to put down their weapons. ANd that's good enough for me.

Posted by: Dogsoldier | Mar 15, 2008 4:21:20 PM

Malthusian77; let me help you out. David Hume, respected writer on Britains history and politics as well as a multi award winner, including Nobel Peace Prize; stated that Hillary did infact contribute respectfully to the peace talks and that she was instrumental in many of the ideas that were used. HAAAAA! Spread your lies but we won't buy from the Obummer walking deads.

Posted by: Johnny | Mar 15, 2008 4:24:05 PM

Dogsoldier: It was Lord Trimble who called her claims a "wee bit silly." It is true that she was marginally evolved, but the way she phrases it exaggerates what the historical record shows.

Posted by: malthusian77 | Mar 15, 2008 4:30:25 PM

The irony of this whole process is that it is over and nobody wants to admit it. On her best day Senator Clinton can not win the 65% of pledged delegates to catch up. This lead was built because her campaign ran a general election instead of a nomination process. This type of mismanagement and lack of vision is not what I consider Presidential material. FL & MI will not likely re-vote. Fl can't get out of their own way and MI is offering a closed primary vs. the open primary they originally submitted to the DNC. I have a significant problem with the DNC accepting any plan that deviates from the original rules. Her only HOPE is the superdelegates and if they overturn the will of the people (most pledged delegates) there will be hell to pay in November.

As for Rezko and the reverend, if that is the best they can come up with there is no comparison in consideration as to how many dirty hands the Clintons have touched.

Posted by: Lou | Mar 15, 2008 4:39:29 PM

Malthusian77-Thank you for your response and your civil tone. I believe Hillary did her thing as an American, however, I do believe it was some of her ideas that Gerry Adams meant when he commented on this story as Hillary had behind the scenes access to him during many critical phases of this tortured peace process. And as you know how delicate that process was at the time. Only later did the protestants come on board and Hillary did not have much access to the Ian Paisley side. So I believe we may well be both correct on this issue.
