Clinton Issues Challenge to Obama in Michigan

Share

March 19, 2008 1:26 PM

ABC News' Eloise Harper Reports: Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., challenged Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., to accept the draft legislation that has been approved by the Democratic Party to cast a re-vote in the state of Michigan. Clinton announced that she has accepted the proposal and said, “I call on Senator Obama to do the same. This is a crucial test, does he mean what he says or not? And I am pleased and grateful that on this issue the people of Michigan have had such outstanding advocates in their democratic leaders.”

Watch the VIDEO HERE.

Clinton continued, “Senator Obama speaks passionately on the campaign trail about empowering the American people. Today I am urging him to match those words with actions.”

Clinton said not counting the votes from voters in Michigan and Florida “is wrong and, frankly, it is un-American.” Clinton added, “I am here for one simple reason: to make sure Michigan’s votes are counted.”

Clinton also pointed out that her rivals chose to take their names off the ballot - and she did not. “When others made a decision to remove their name from the ballot, I didn’t because I believed your voices should count.”

Senator Clinton delivered a quick twenty minute speech in a small room at the local AFSCME Council 25. She thanked the governor and other members of congress for their support and said, “I am proud to stand with the people of Michigan in this cause and I hope that Senator Obama will join me.”

Obama will never agree to allow a new primary--rather than a caucus--in a largley white, blue-collar, union, deer-hunting, rust-belt state which will break heavily for Hillary.

The Audacity of Obstruction.

This would have been a good speech back in August...but of course she didn't care back in August.

HILLARY CLINTON, the champion of issues for us "DOWNSCALE DEMOCRATS" as MSNBC's Chris Mathews derogatorily refers to us. Like the games begin!!! Go HILLARY!

Posted by: WestCoastMessenger | Mar 19, 2008 1:42:40 PM

If Fl. and MI don't count over a technicality and Obama wins the nomination I will write in my vote for Hillary.

Posted by: Charles | Mar 19, 2008 1:52:12 PM

Hillary has not accept the DNC rules and has kept her name on the ballot, thinking that one day she will push to get that undemocratic vote counted. We call that undisciplined action and un-american attitude and antidemocratic view. Obama is in the lead and he will take his time and make the right decision when he is ready. Michigan will get its voice heard. OBAMA08.

Posted by: BKMC | Mar 19, 2008 1:52:33 PM

Hillary certainly has a way with words but a short-term memory. Did she or did she not verbally and on-the-air agree that Florida and Michigan votes would not count because those states violated the DNC rules? At that time she thought she had the nomination pretty much sewn up so it wouldn't matter if those votes counted or not. Now, it seems, her "spin" is that poor Michigan voters are being disenfranchised and it's all Obama's fault. What garbage. Again and again it's say anything/do anything to win the nomination. I'm so sick of her campaign tactics. She is not the candidate I want representing MY gender.

Posted by: Brenna | Mar 19, 2008 1:53:20 PM

She is clearly a hypocrite. She want to disenfranchise the Texas caucus voters but ensure that every vote counts in Michigan. Her campaign is on life support. Obama has every right to follow the rules and not allow a revote.

Posted by: Radmanaustin | Mar 19, 2008 1:55:03 PM

Thank you, DL, for stating the simple truth. Where was she when the DNC was making this decision? She was running the Campaign of Inevitability and now that that didn't work for her, she wants to go back on that.

I am a person that thinks that all the votes should count. But I also believe in the abiding by the rules. It is really quite simple...Michigan and Florida went outside of the established rules to hold their primaries early. Even after it was evident what the outcome would be, they wouldn't go back on that. The irony is that if they had abided by the rules, they would have been very important in this primary race.

Posted by: What.Say.Me... | Mar 19, 2008 1:55:30 PM

To BKMC:

This Idea that Obama gets to make the decision as to if and when Michigan and to a lesser extent florida gets to have a say is just wrong. We are supposed to be a democracy although we are really a republic. To say that one man gets to make the decision is undemocratic and quite freightening. Will you support him if he tries to say that only certain states get to vote in ghe GE or if only certain people get to vote if he somehow becomes president. This is turly frightening that you could support such an undemocratic postion. oh and by the way He choose to take his name off the ballot. He could have been on the ballot and let his supporters in the state support him even if the delegats did not count. Oh and yes he is in the lead, but he will not reach the number needed to win. so no he can not win just as hillary can not win with pledged delagets alone.

Posted by: joshua bradshaw | Mar 19, 2008 1:59:29 PM

Too bad Hillary didn't stand up for Michigan and Florida when she signed the agreement to not count these votes.

In February, Hillary said "these votes don't matter"

Hillary, why do you repeatedly commit yourself to bad ideas? Iraq, not counting Michigan and Florida votes in February, worrying about Bill's budget while Kennedy and others responsibly worked on SCHIP, writing that NAFTA was great, ...

Hillary, you never admit you were wrong. It's always someone else's fault.

Even worse, many times you take credit for things you were not a part of.

Posted by: Dan | Mar 19, 2008 1:59:43 PM

That's Hillary for you -- "The audacity of the flip-flopper." She now says she left her name on the ballot because she wanted their votes to count. Not what she said back then, though!

Hillary didn't expect the race to last past Super Tuesday, so she figured she would victoriously allow the delegations to be seated and accept the nomination. Then, no one would challenge her on attempts to steal votes.

No one promised "revotes" when these states were sanctioned. Though, if the revotes happen, Obama would still emerge victorious! But why drag this race out through June 3rd or longer???!!!

Obama 2008 -- Yes, We CAN!!!

Posted by: Jackt51 | Mar 19, 2008 1:59:57 PM

Why did the people of MI and FL elect such bad legislators? It's their fault their vote doesn't count. Place the blame where it belongs.

Posted by: Janet from NH | Mar 19, 2008 2:01:12 PM

Why did she agree last year to strip Florida and Michigan from their votes. Now that she is looking for any chance to catch up, it is very important for the delegates to be seated.

Posted by: Homeforthoughts | Mar 19, 2008 2:01:41 PM

I am still laughing at the fact that people are upset with Obama for abiding by the rules. Where was all this outrage when the DNC made this decision? Where was the public outcry at that point? The simple fact is that people, in general, thought that it wouldn't matter. No one expected Barack to do so well as to essentially earn enough pledged delegates to make it a deadlock.

I think that, if we think there is such a problem with the rules, then speak out on it and do something about it...but now is not the time. You can't change the rules of the game over halfway through it. BUT, Surely if you do change those rules, both opponents should be allowed to agree on that.

This is not Obama's fault and was never his sole decision...just as it wasn't Hillary's.

Posted by: What.Say.Me... | Mar 19, 2008 2:04:36 PM

You go, Hillary!

Posted by: Griffin | Mar 19, 2008 2:14:51 PM

I saw on a news report an agreement that Hillary signed agreeing not to campaign in Michigan. So why is she campaigning there today??

Posted by: ML | Mar 19, 2008 2:17:13 PM

Griffin
You are right, hillary go home, the days of old politics have ended. A new chapter for America and its greatness is being written by Obama.

Posted by: BKMC | Mar 19, 2008 2:17:22 PM

I agree with dl. Go Hillary!!! Because of Obama Hillary cannot have her rightful deligates in Fla. Everyone had their name on the ballot- including Obama and no one campained not even Hillary and she WON! I it had been Obama he would have gotten the delicates. CNN and MSNBC would not have stopped pushing for him until he got them. They have catered to him and gave him the position he has. I am proud of Hillary because she has been bullied and she is still standing. Obama is a racist as his pastor.

Posted by: proud american | Mar 19, 2008 2:18:31 PM

ch, continue to read the polls, what is important here is the number of pledged delegates and that is called "the math" and the math is in favor of Obama. BHillary cannot get more delegates than Obama, we all know that and the super delegates have no choice but to elect the candidate who has more pledged delegates (Nancy Polosi) OBAMA08.

Posted by: BKMC | Mar 19, 2008 2:33:31 PM

Who cares who you write in....if hillary steals the nomination, she won't win.
If Obama is nominated, he won't win either. This racist country is too worried about someone else's words.

The only person that had the guts to stand up and say we should not hold him accountable for what his pastor said....Huckabee. Wow.

So start practicing....President McCain, President McCain

Posted by: LA in Indiana | Mar 19, 2008 2:43:14 PM

BKMC_Are you speaking on behalf of the Obama campaign? And if so why not come right out and speak plainly that YOU want to disenfranchise two states, FL and MI. YOU want to give those two states to the republicans even before the general begins? Is this your position?

Posted by: Dogsoldier | Mar 19, 2008 2:48:57 PM

LA in Indiana,
Would that be a theft of the nomination because somehow OBAMA owns my Democratic vote. Stealing an election is when you DO NOT COUNT the votes. Remember Gore, 2000. That was a stolen election. Good Democrative votes were NOT counted. It is somehow honorable for OBAMA to do the same? This is the same United States that Reverend Wright is free to hate, it is one where VOTES MUST COUNT for the union to stand.

Posted by: WestCoastMessenger | Mar 19, 2008 2:51:51 PM

If you're going to call the man a liar, at least get the story straight that you're referring to.
Newsmax and Kristol already tried that 'he was there' crap. Only to find out he wasn't, but the TRUTH is never told after these disingenuous stories.

Obama was not in the church during the 2 (or 3) soundbites that you all keep referring to. Its funny how these 2 or 3 soundbites then blossom into 20 years of sermons. If you really want to know the truth, actually listen to the sermons. But don't just comment on distortions and innuendo.
These couple of soundbites is not what was preached in this church for 20 years.
If we're going to argue about this issue, stop watching foxnews and lets at least make it an intelligent argument.

Posted by: LA in Indiana | Mar 19, 2008 2:55:18 PM

Dogsoldier, the rules re votes in Fl and MI were not established by Obama and his campaign. Therefore it is not correct to think that Obama want to disenfranchise voters in Fl and MI, you are talking as a member of the Hillary campaign. Nobody should change the rules of a game in the middle of a game, that is simple to understand, that is fairness.OBAMA08.

Posted by: BKMC | Mar 19, 2008 2:56:08 PM

ok, I'll bite....
wcm, how is Obama stealing your vote?

Posted by: LA in Indiana | Mar 19, 2008 2:59:59 PM

Hillary is sooooo full of it!
If we let Michigan do it again, they'll be the first state to break the rules 4 yrs from now!

I guess we know who incites breaking the rules!

Posted by: davidpagzzz | Mar 19, 2008 3:01:02 PM

BKMC-You did not answer my question. Do you want to throw FL and MI to the republicans? Simple answer to a simple question, yes or no?

Posted by: Dogsoldier | Mar 19, 2008 3:01:50 PM

FL and MI have a way of being seated, according to the DNC rules. Folks who say the rules are the rules are absolutely correct, and as such, there is a path that these two states can take to be seated.

To be compliant with party rules:
a. They could hold second nominating contests
b. They can appeal to the DNC's credentials committee

What MI and FL have proposed are NOT breaking any rules. Both sides should recognize that and not disenfranchise the voters of these states since they have made it clear that they do want their votes to count.

Those who are trying to peg Senator Clinton as the "do anything to win" candidate is right to a certain extent...you need to add "...back the White House with a Democratic President" to the end of your statement. That is what is really at stake.

I find it ironic that so many Obama supporters like to spout how he is ahead in the delegate count, states and popular vote. What do you have to worry about then?

Posted by: LOM | Mar 19, 2008 3:09:18 PM

The republicans are enjoying the best of all possible worlds. They have Reverend Wright who will speak for them and they have a democratic part helping them to win by throwing FL and MI to them without a fight. They have Samantha Powers, Obama's policy adviser, who call the people of Ohio stupid for voting Hillary. Another state leaning for McCain. And we have a party fighting to exclude FL and MI. Yep. Indeed Democrats do invent new ways to shoot ourselves in the foot in new and more improved ways every election.

Posted by: Dogsoldier | Mar 19, 2008 3:11:50 PM

LOM,
Well said. I've decided to switch my vote back to Clinton. It's much easier to align with good logic.
HILLARY CLINTON 2008

Posted by: WestCoastMessenger | Mar 19, 2008 3:12:00 PM

The problem with any statement Hillary makes is that she simply is not credible. If the tables were turned, she would be refusing to agree--if she thought it was to her advantage in the race for the nomination.

This is why the idea of her as president is detestable and repelling to me. I want to be able to believe what the president says. In Hillary's case, this is impossible.

Posted by: Mike Denhof | Mar 19, 2008 3:12:08 PM

The rules are the rules.

Live by the sword, die by the sword.

Unpledged delegates can vote their independent judgment so don't cry foul if a majority of them vote for Senator Clinton.

The rules are the rules...

Posted by: LOM | Mar 19, 2008 3:12:53 PM

WCM,

Phew. Welcome back.

Posted by: LOM | Mar 19, 2008 3:14:30 PM

wcm, do you really think she will win?

The republicans will come out of the woodworks to vote against putting the clintons BACK in the white house.
And she won't have my vote, that's for sure.

Posted by: LA in Indiana | Mar 19, 2008 3:15:16 PM

Hillary, you're a cheat ... plain and simple. You say one thing and do another ... you believe the rules don't apply to you. I don't care if there is a re-vote in Michigan. What I care about is your audacity of dishonesty, dishonor and lack of integrity. Who ... WHO votes for a person who blatantly flaunts these character traits? It will be people who don't want change ... that's who. People who like the corrupt system and the corrupt people running it and want it to stay just exactly like it is. They wouldn't know how to function any other way. Change is a threat to them. Can it be any clearer than Hillary Clinton's machinations through this process?

Posted by: AC | Mar 19, 2008 3:15:45 PM

Despite all the inconsistencies that come out of HIllary's mouth, there is one reliable way of repdicting what she will say and do. You just have to figure out whether it promotes her personal interests in glory and power. If it does, she will say it or do it. If it does not, she wont.

The American people will always be second to the above logic. Hillary first Americas second. Hillary first, the Democratic Party second.

Posted by: Mike Denhof | Mar 19, 2008 3:16:50 PM

WestCoastMessager, reading polls is part of old politics: acting based on polls and focus groups reports, Obama wants to turn that page. OBAMA08.

Posted by: BKMC | Mar 19, 2008 3:20:11 PM

Ac-Does the name Reverend Wright and Obama enter into your logic? This is what Obama said about Don Imus: "He fed into some of the worst stereotypes that my two young daughters are having to deal with today in America. I am a constitutional lawyer and strongly believe in free speech, but as a culture, we really have to do some soul-searching to think about what kind of toxic information are we feeding our kids," he concluded. Well, would this be the same Obama who sat HIS kids down in Wright's church? Is this the same Obama who demanded Don Imus be fired. What did Obama demand of Wright? Oh, right, understand him. Sounds like two different set of rules to me.

Posted by: Dogsoldier | Mar 19, 2008 3:23:46 PM

Obama will not win a general election by turing his back on voters in Michigan and Florida.

The point of the nomination is to win the white house.

Obama and his supporters seem to have lost sight of this overriding reason for these primaries in the first place.

Not allowing both of these states to have their elections count is political suicide.

Ther DNC needs to step in and stop this and encourage the Michigan revote.

Posted by: s.b. | Mar 19, 2008 3:24:31 PM

HOw exactly is it cheating to count votes???

Sorry I'm missing somethign there?

The DNC is in the business of winning elections.

They will seat these delegations in Aug if they want even a hope of winning the white house.

Posted by: s.b. | Mar 19, 2008 3:27:12 PM

All I can say is, I would take Rev Wrights comments over George Bushs failed policies any day, killing our troops...we're at what...almost 4,000 now?
McCain will keep the wars going. Oil prices will continue to skyrocket, the economy is going into the tank. The country is about ready to implode...

Well over half the country does not want hillary and bill as president. But what's more important....white america is afraid of something a pastor said months ago, and years ago. A pastor that only has power within the walls of his church. What are you really afraid of??

Where is the negative impact of Reverend Wright over the last 30-40 years?

Posted by: LA in Indiana | Mar 19, 2008 3:28:34 PM

Go Hillary!!Obama should have done what Hillary did and kept his name on the ballot. He should have taken a chance as she did. You snooze, you lose. Sounds like Obama got some bad advice!

I dare say if Obama had kept his name on the ballot and Hillary did not, he would be fighting for the votes just as much as she is.

Posted by: barbara | Mar 19, 2008 3:31:32 PM

So now ALL women will be voting for hillary???

lololol

Posted by: LA in Indiana | Mar 19, 2008 3:33:27 PM

"Well over half the country does not want hillary and bill as president. "

Not true. Half of the *democratic* leaning country do not want Senator Clinton as President (Bill's not running as he is constitutionally forbidden to do so). It is also true that about half of the democratic leaning country do not want Senator Obama either. The other half (roughly) of the country are Republican leaning.

So how does this stalemate end? The unpledged delegates will vote their independent judgment and cast it for the candidate they feel is best qualified to WIN in the general election. Do you think they will choose Senator Obama? If so, why?

Posted by: LOM | Mar 19, 2008 3:36:35 PM

I can only hope they choose Senator Obama.

His pastor aside, I believe Obama is the best candidate to unite this country. We need to get past the distractions and get back to the issues the country is concerned about.
If the country (or at least the better half) would put aside racism, I believe we could really move this country forward.

Posted by: LA in Indiana | Mar 19, 2008 3:46:26 PM

LA in Indiana -- Thank you for you honest opinion. I can appreciate and respect that we all need to get back on the issues. I think we are all ready to move forward and figure out how we're going to get the US back on track to being the best that it can be.

Posted by: LOM | Mar 19, 2008 3:50:59 PM

LOM-LA is a lady. I like her. We fight but she's a nice lady. She is also one of our military service people who DID go overseas and she did do her thing. Perhaps she needs me to kick her in the butt again, but she's lost to the forces of evil. I have a light saber but she's been converted to the machine and is currently undergoing a refit for a new Microsoft operation system and she is currently experiencing some bugs in the system.

Posted by: Dogsoldier | Mar 19, 2008 3:51:03 PM

LOM, why would you want to peg me as sexist??
And LOM, ALL blacks are not currently voting for Obama. hillary has managed to keep some black support, men and women. I just don't agree with them, and the last time I checked, I was free to do that.

Posted by: LA in Indiana | Mar 19, 2008 3:51:25 PM

LA in Indiana-LOL.

Posted by: Dogsoldier | Mar 19, 2008 3:55:03 PM

misogyny/misandry aside....

hillary was the first lady, and she was set up to have a senate seat, prolly cuz bill cheated on her and he had to do something to make up....

I don't like GWB, but I believe I like Laura a lot more than I like hillary. Hell....let Laura run for president, she's qualified too, right?!

Posted by: LA in Indiana | Mar 19, 2008 3:57:36 PM

Is it too much to ask that the do over be legal? That those that voted in the first round be allowed to vote in the second? There are legitimate questions regarding the do over the Clinton fails to mention. She plays politics instead of showing that she wants to serve the people.

Posted by: Louis | Mar 19, 2008 4:02:16 PM

As a female, I know we can do much better than hillary clinton.
Why not Kathleen Sebelius?

Hey, make the comment, so I can cry foul. I like Obama. I can relate.

Posted by: LA in Indiana | Mar 19, 2008 4:11:03 PM

Louis-Look, this FL and MI thing MUST be resolved for the democratic party itself. Heck with what Clinton or Obama wants. We have no chance without including FL and MI, period. If we all say, Hillary and Obama side, we want to win the White House as we claim then we HAVE to include these folks, period. If we do not FL and MI will go republican even before the general begins. NO caucuses from our side. Not after 1.5 million democrats wanted to vote. That's our only request.

Posted by: Dogsoldier | Mar 19, 2008 4:16:04 PM

I am unsure as why some are begrudging the citizens of Michigan and Florida their right to vote. It's not their fault. The people of those states did not decide to move up their date. Someone high up made a very bad decision. Why is it that the little people have to be punished for what some state head decided. As just a citizen, I show up when I am told. The people just did what they were told. Hold the violators responsible, but give the decent people of those states their voice!

To Every one of the americans on this blog speaking out negatively and against Barack Obama's Pastor....You are proving the man right... you are the reason, your statements, your evident position is what jeremiah Wright is talking about and why he is angered. Oh well...I guess the few of you really don't care about change...why not? when I was in College my frigin' roomate turned out to be 'fucin' Aryan nation member...guns and all...try that on for laughs. He use to call me beatbox...I guess it's not hard to understand why I didn't like him much...however do to an inability for my school to find different housing for either of us we were forced to live together for a sememster. Wanna know how that ended? After many days of arguing debating and sometimes enduring angry silence somehow we engaged eachother to a duel. I would have to go to one of his head banging, beer guzzlin, tomato smashin', get bloody and muddy mash parties and in turn he had to go to one of my beep bop, fresh suit, 'hood posin', california smoke puffin'black parties. Oddly enough his acutal interaction with blacks changed his ideals pretty quickly when he realized that they didn't dislike like him personally. of course he had to hide hide that nazi tattoo and stop saying nig... but yeah a few drinks wit the brothas and some groupie love from the sista's and my nazi american roomate suddenly realized that black people don't hate...but we can be angry...likewise it was my first time ever going to a ...mash party and i have to admit ....it was great! It was an opportunity to elbow a few white boys in the chin...without reprisal. But... I soon came to realize that they didn't recognize my aggression as a vent of anger but actually loved me more when I did that...They actually ignored my anger. I was for a moment confused before I too realized that White people don't want to hate... their just angry at times...too. Well... i don't know if that means anything to any of you here on this blog but... to my old college roomate, I know your still a republican and probably spend most of your time on those super right wing blogs but if you by chance happen to see this i want you to know...my clothes are still muddy...I love you William...my brotha from another mutha'...

A devious player who is eager to disenfranchise the right to vote from the populace of two of our United States rather than take his chances because he is too chickenhearted to take them on.

A self-described "bone head" who has picked the religious leader who can rock his world, and who I am afraid will rock mine!

... but I do like his speech writer.

To all of you who are so vocally supporting the silencing of Michigan's and Florida's voices in this primary process, what do you think you're gaining?

This is not about Hillary or Barack. This is about democracy. You may feel gleeful now, but realize that this sets a precedent for future elections of all types. Next time it could be your voice silenced. It could be over something of vital importance to your life.

And it's interesting to see the "Holier than Thou Obamatrons" rationalizing their support for suppressing the votes of fellow Americans. You claim it's in keeping with the "rules". But if you're honest with yourselves, you know that's a flagrant lie.

The truth is that you'd be willing to have suppress the democratic rights of your fellow citizens because you know that if their votes are counted, Hillary will win the nomination. Obama's success comes from silencing two of the largest democratic voting blocks in the nation. And you call yourselves liberal? Shame on you.

AN OBAMA NOMINATION MEANS 4 MORE YEARS OF REPUBLICAN RULE. OUR GREAT COUNTRY CANNOT WITHSTAND THAT. MCBUSH WILL LEAD US DOWN THE SAME ROAD OF STAY THE COURSE THAT HAS ALL BUT BANKRUPTED OUR NATION. HILLIARY IS OUR ONLY HOPE OF WINNING THE WHITEHOUSE. OBAMA HAS BEEN SHOWN FOR WHAT HE IS. A LIAR AND A FOLLOWER OF A MAN THAT HATES WHITE PEOPLE. OBAMA WILL NEVER LET A REVOTE HAPPEN IN MICH. I am greatly moved by what he said.He can not be held responsible for his pastors out rage. I guess you have to be in his shoes to understan. Obama spoke of his grandmother and he took the vverbal words and look what he suceeded in. he is a senator, lawyer, and running for president. Do you think he got their by being a racist.? No, he had many hard times at harvard and he stood with the punches. I am proud of Obama. I hope America will try to over look the gossip of the church. Are they any white americans that go thier I wonder. Do anyone know the answer to this question. If so does the media show white americans. I am not trying to sound racist. I love everybody. If so if his ministry was so abusive. I think it would of have been a lot of amosity in the black neighborhood. The most respected citizens go their. God Bless Obama and his campaign.Go Obama

The Clintons response: withdraw troops
Clintons decides to cut losses, Sets timetable, declares that American troops are to be fully withdrawn from Somalia by March 31 1994. The hunt for Aidid is abandoned, and US representatives are sent to resume negotiations with the warlord.

Way to go Hillary!

Senator Obama has released his & his wifes income statements for 2007. He has been upfront & forthcoming to the American People, concerning this matter.

Here's a challenge for you. You say you have nothing to hide. Today I am urging you to match action with words.

Not releasing Bill & Your income statements for 2007 is wrong and frankly , at this point, causes the American People to suspect that you have something to hide.

You and the people of Michigan knew that your actions were not sanctioned by the DNC and you agreed to the action.

We would like to know where the 5,000,000 of your pocket change came from, etc.

Why are we angry? Well, (if you don't live in FL or MI)... Imagine that your state's election-results don't count; that after taking the time to learn about the candidates, you go out to vote in the hopes that, although your state was disqualified, the vote would likely be accepted by the DNC later (this was the general assumption in FL)... then imagine that the candidate you support wins big... but the results from your state are never accepted and plans for a re-vote are continually frustrated and opposed by the other candidate... Wouldn't you be angry? Polls show that one in four Democrat in FL will not vote Democratic if the FL primary's vote is not counted. FL and MI are two key, swing states and disqualifying their primary elections (or not allowing a re-vote) could really have a negative impact for Democrats in the general elections!
