Clinton Lowers Expectations in Wyoming
March 07, 2008 8:04 PM
ABC News' Eloise Harper reports: Sen. Hillary Clinton came to Casper, Wyo., and down-played her chances for victory in the state's caucuses on Saturday.
Speaking to a crowd of more than 1,000, Clinton said people questioned her rationale for coming to a state with a caucus.
"I said, 'Well you know what, I'm going to go to Wyoming anyway. I know it's an uphill climb, I'm aware of that,'" Clinton said, "But, you see, I am a fighter, and I believe it's worth fighting for your votes."
Clinton delievered her traditional stump spech with a focus on the economy -- highlighting the jobs report from today as well as alternative forms of energy.
She noted that she was in the state that started the voting rights movement. She also pointed out that the state elected the first woman governor to office, clearly trying to draw a parallel to her bid.

Listed below are links to weblogs that reference Clinton Lowers Expectations in Wyoming:
Caucus really is a cheating game. Don't quiet understand why Democrats are disenfranchising its base by using undemocratic caucus system in so many states. Case in point Texas. Hillary obviously has more support in terms of voters in there, but Obama may be able to steal the state through the cheating game of Caucus.

Wyoming is a conservative state. 2004 69% Bush 29% Kerry. This is an almost impossible gap to bridge meaning this state's electoral votes will most likely go to McCain.
But the race for delegates is still in play in the primaries for Clinton. For the democrat minority in the state, healthcare is a key issue. Her radio ad is great! As a conservative state, they are in general pro-military.
In the 2004 primaries, Kerry (moderate military strength platform) won 77% of the vote and Edwards (more liberal non-military platform) won 5%. It will be interesting to see who wins the caucus.

SJ:I ask you the same question can Hillary Beat McCain without Obama's Supporters?
Posted by: Karen | Mar 7, 2008 9:13:21 PM
Can Clinton win without Obama supporters??? no. Especially Indepedents that will flock to McCain IF and thats a BIG IF, if Clinton is the nominee.
According to CNN, Obama is up in delegates and the popular vote by 600,000
Posted by: Vanessa | Mar 7, 2008 9:15:29 PM
Am tired of the Obama junkies saying Hillary will lose ok great no problem with that but I want one of you to tell me how Obama is going to win, its a simple question to answer instead of all the name calling and mud throwing, tell me how.
Posted by: SJ | Mar 7, 2008 9:15:59 PM
Sorry Vanessa. CNN is not counting Michigan and Florida and their votes will be counted before the convention
Here is the exact total from realpolitics.com
State Date % Vote In Obama Clinton
Popular Vote Total - - 13,000,655 12,411,705
Popular Vote (w/FL) - - 13,576,869 13,282,691
Popular Vote (w/FL & MI)* - 13,576,869 13,611,000

We're behind here Karen, so the real question becomes can Obama win without the Clinton supporters? Heck, can Obama win without caucuses because there are no caucuses in the general to run up the score. Considering Obama has already thrown out the voters of two states FL and MI. Then his policy adviser called the Ohio voter stupid for voting Clinton so why don't you tell me how Obama will win the general.
Posted by: Dogsoldier | Mar 7, 2008 9:21:29 PM
She can possibly beat him because her winning in the states that she did was not dependent on cross over voting to knock her out, Republicans and Independents were voting against her to keep her out of the race.
That is a major difference in the votes that Obama got, all these cross over voters will return to their base then what will be his position, this is a know fact and the percentages are there for anyone willing to look at them.
Posted by: SJ | Mar 7, 2008 9:21:48 PM
SJ: You mention Obama supporters. Are thinking only white women and Latinos can win an election for Hillary Clinton in this country?
Posted by: Karen | Mar 7, 2008 9:22:21 PM
We are tired of her manipulations!!!!
Posted by: Mark | Mar 7, 2008 9:23:12 PM
john smith and others - if you examine how elections work for Presidential races, you will see that we have an electoral college system. States like Wyoming will give their electors to McCain... that is a given. Of the states that may swing and the Democratic strongholds with the number of 270 electoral votes needed to win the election, Clinton would have about 252 electors and Obama has 144 electors. There are enough electors left in the 10 remaining states for Clinton to win without Obama but there are not enough left for Obama to beat McCain. Hence, the core democrats are supporting Clinton enough that she could win without Obama's supporters. But she really wants to unite the party and that is why she would offer him a veep slot if she becomes the nominee.

Dogsoldier: According to Hillary Clinton she not behind, she is the winner but the blue-collar workers in Ohio have spoken. That is what I heard come up of her mouth. You act as if Hillary Clinton is blowing Obama out in these states. She may win the primaries but she will not win the General Election. Tell me how many polls you have seen with her winning the General Election? She is too negative. How can you be on the same team with someone and yet if you cannot be the MVP toss the game to the other team...She compliments McCain so much, I encourage people to vote for McCain.
Posted by: Karen | Mar 7, 2008 9:30:51 PM
If the blacks don't vote for Hillary so what they are not voting for her in mass now are they yet she can still win a state that is the difference some of you not thinking of.

Rick - I dont think a significant number of Americans voted against Obama because of the Muslim issue. I think they either voted for Clinton because they believe she is the best candidate or they voted against him because they do not believe his claim of good judgement on a variety of issues. TIming and perception is everything in politics.
Posted by: DCVoter | Mar 7, 2008 9:38:01 PM
SJ: Your comments on blacks voting for her, evidently that is not her only issue due she would have won by now right? I think she losing other voters also. My question is with ALL of that 35 years of experience why isn't all this over with now? Surely she should have be able to knock Obama out by now...Why is she having fight this inexperience candidate?
Posted by: Karen | Mar 7, 2008 9:38:16 PM
Obama's drug use is not hearsay he admitted it.
Posted by: SJ | Mar 7, 2008 9:38:17 PM
One thing I think many voters may not realize is - the primaries are not popularity contests to see who can be the nicest and most liked. The purpose of the primaries is to test the candidates, with the media and the public vetting them with great scrutiny.
The voters need to see who can compete, who can handle the pressure, who is the fighter, who has convictions, who shares our values, who has the best command of the issues, who is best prepared to take office, and who can beat the other party in the general election. This is not a test for voters... it is a test for the candidates.
Their job is to prove they are the top gun and that requires spirited debates, campaign attacks, calculated defense, and a strong resume. They are the "athletes"... the campaign volunteers are the "cheerleaders" and the support system... the voters are the fans who cast the votes with the loudest applause as to who wins the pregame to go on to the final endgame. This is a competition not a "let's play nice at the playground in Mr. Roger's neighborhood."
Maybe we should run a video of Obama singing "Won't You Be My Neighbor" LOL

Posted by: DCVoter | Mar 7, 2008 9:45:46 PM
Karen - you are misinformed about the TX minority vote impact. The black voter turnout was not low but they got more delegates because they are in urban areas. The hispanic voter turnout was so high that it made the black voter turnout a lower percentage. The hispanic vote got less delegates because of the disproportioning of delegates in TX caused by Tom Delay (R). The support for Clinton was so strong that it gave her a majority in spite of that. Her win in TX was statistically way more significant that what you are being lead to believe by whatever invalid source you are looking at. As a displaced Texan, I am proud of them! They overcame the Rep party fixing of the voting discrimination. Now all they need is to regain control of TX and get the Reps out of power so they can change it back to fair apportioning and get rid of the caucus which has been used by the Reps to fix elections.

Caucuses are not fair or democratic. I did my homework & Obama is a farse. The Presidency isn't a trainee position or an affirmitive action position. McCain doesn't know anything about economics, just rubberstamp Bushes policies & debt. No Thanks. I'm voteing for Hillary all the way to the WH. She's our only Hope.
Posted by: Not Fooled | Mar 7, 2008 10:38:22 PM
I agree with SJ,
I do not see any major military names supporting Obama. On the other hand, we have so many generals and veterans supporting Hillary.
I'm with Hillary!

DC Voters: Everyone is allowed to have an opinion and just because you say she is more qualified that don't does not mean everyone is going to go along with you. If you are really speaking of the most qualified candidate of 3 in this race than I guess you SHALL be voting for McCain in the general election. He has the most experience. By the way, your argument just does not hold. You keep trying to say black people are the reason Hillary Clinton has not won this race and truth is there more people than just blacks that do not see her as more qualified to run the white house than Obama, if so this process would be over now. There are more than blacks that can see her negativity. This is why McCain will win the general election because of this type of stuff.
Posted by: Karen | Mar 7, 2008 10:42:43 PM
Obama has to explain his dealing with Rezko and Governor Blagojevich, because if he does not and the time comes and he is nominated it will be a total embarrassment for the Democrat party.
Posted by: SJ | Mar 7, 2008 10:47:47 PM
SJ:You are not given me knowledge, i saw that. I saw those generals supporting Hillary and Bill Clinton. I speaking about miltary in terms of not those sitting in Wahsington but the miltary men/women she sent to Iraq to get killed or to kill someone elses love ones. Everyone knows Hillary with Bill Clinton have more power in Washington. Which still with all that Power why hasn't she elminated Obama from this race? Why is he still in this race? Why is she having to fight so hard and has gone so negative? After all she has the momentum. She has the power and oh and that 30 years of experience. No thanks, I rather see McCain win this one...Also don't you think she should win this fairly? Don't you think she should win this with the popular votes and delegates? Some of you guys think they should take this election from Obama GIVE it to Hillary even if she does not have the popular vote and delegates..because you love her? Do you really believe if it works like that she will win the General Election?
Posted by: karen | Mar 7, 2008 11:00:37 PM
SJ: Hillary Clinton specializes and experience is in reporting negativity. She always on microphone when something happens with Obama therefore I am sure if there are ANY wrongdoings to come out about Obama and Rezko, your beloved Hillary will inform the world. Oh you best believe she has people sitting in that courtroom. Problem is they have no been able to proof anything so her followers choose to lure people who information that they can verify is true. In this country you are innocent until proven guilty...Hillary and Bill should know something about that statements. With the indictment they received in past and trying to convince people of their innocence.

Say what you will, I hope Hillary gets to the WH. Obama is not qualified. If Obama gets the Dems ticket they may loose the Hillary voters, if Hillary gets the Dems ticket they may loose the Obama voters. Funny, the media and others have been talking to and investigating the Clintons for how many years? And the Obama's the media and others are just getting started. Too soon and too short a time to put him in the WH.

LOL funny what gets posted when I am away from the computer. As far as the assumption that I would vote for McCain... sorry his experience is limited to the Senate and the military. He has no experience in the issues that need to be addressed and admits that. Clinton wins hands down.
You can compare all of the candidate records and qualifications at the ote smart website. Unbaised, non-partisan information free for the reading. I am happy to debate facts but wont bother replying to lies and misinformation about any of the candidates. Obama is not ready and hasnt been around long enough to forge the types of working relationships and the respect necessary to get the job done with Congress and is demonstrating his lack of experience and faulty judgement more each day. McCain served his country honoroably but does not have the necessary well-rounded experience needed to keep us out of war. Senator Clinton earns my respect in spite of all the mistakes her husband has made in his personal life. We cant afford as a country and as a peoples of this world to have another Bush in the WH and that is what both Obama and McCain bring to the table on their different plates.
Posted by: DCVoter | Mar 8, 2008 12:14:01 AM
Kinda late to suck up to caucus states, isn't it? If she loses Wyoming, does it "not count" just like Iowa didn't? I can't imagine how that made her volunteers feel.
Posted by: SE Croft | Mar 8, 2008 12:35:03 AM
A caucus is used as a organizing tool and to gather the committed voters of a party together. To get a group of activists togther and usually a more commited group that will work to win the election in November, not your fly by night believe propaganda type voters. The process is open to all voters but ususally the folks that show up understand politics and usually more organized and will benefit all of us in the party and by the way this is not a new process. There are a lot of good reasons for to hold them for the Democratic party. The groups that participate show the commitment and organization to drive votes in the general election. No candidate should be surprised by this process even though they can be uniquely different in each state and the Caucuses tend to be funded by the state Democratic party, which has it's positives and negatives. Like the superdelegate process it has it positives and negatives, but everyone has the right to be involved in a Caucus, So if you believe strongly and want to be involved and want to give positive engery to the party and make a difference instead of bickering on a chat site you and everyone should.
Posted by: DD | Mar 8, 2008 1:29:18 AM
SE Croft - Wyoming is a red state by a large percentage. Only the delegates (just 12 of them) matter in the primaries. Wyoming will give its electoral votes to McCain.
Posted by: DCVoter | Mar 8, 2008 2:18:38 AM
DD - if caucuses were used for the purpose of educating voters and getting them involved in the election but did not allocate delegates i would have no problem with that... but secret ballot primaries that allow all voters to vote without pressure is the only tru democratic process for elections imho
Posted by: DCVoter | Mar 8, 2008 2:36:10 AM
If Hillary Clinton gets the nomination then the Republican party will fry Bill Clinton. The Clintons won't have the White House to hide behind as they did in the 90s, and Bush will use all his power/resources as president to destroy them. By the time the Republicans get through throwing up 20 years of dirt, Hillary will be lucky to get 40% in the general, and the Republicans will regain the majority in Congress. There is probably a room full of files somewhere in the White House that Cheney has gathered against the Clintons. Bush wants his war to continue and the Clintons will be a gift on a platter to secure a Republican win.
Posted by: DG | Mar 8, 2008 2:43:30 AM
Every body keeps talking about how this and that are undemocratic...will you say the same of the general? I do...the electoral college is just as absurd as having primaries/caucus then claiming popular vote matters when you have less delegates or vice versa.
Posted by: Ronnie Rucker | Mar 8, 2008 4:46:09 AM
to all of you obama people think about this, latinos like mcain because of his immagration stand ,they have not voted for obama in the southwest and california.arnold is for mcain and he is a very popular govenor.if in a mcain obama matchup we lose california and it 55 electoral collage votes and thus the general what will you say to the rest of us?that the country is to dumb to support you elites .

Clinton will NEVER beat McCain because Obama supporters will not vote for her after this slew of despicable Rovian tactics - she might as well run as McCain's VP after praising McCain skyhigh. She is so reviled by so many Independents and Republicans, not to mention a large number of disgusted Democrats, many of them will come out in droves to vote AGAINST her.
On the other hand, Obama might lose some die-hard Hillary shills, the ones who have been waging a scorched earth campaign on the internet, but he would have attracted a whole new huge turnout of younger and indie voters, as well as the crossover Republicans who are sick of Bush. These are voters who are so disgusted by her and her supporters, they will NEVER pull the lever for another Clinton in the history of the USA again.
DO THE MATH.
Posted by: Qwerty | Mar 8, 2008 6:29:31 AM
You Hillary people have NO IDEA how much you have *###### OFF* Obama supporters. It's fine when you keep insulting us with ridiculous labels to stereotype us and ad hominems, however, YOU CROSSED A LINE WHEN YOU STABBED ONE OF YOUR OWN, OBAMA, IN THE BACK, by endorsing McCain, the TRUE OPPONENT, AHEAD OF US. We understand now that it has NEVER been about getting the country back for you - that was the way we waged the competition the way we did, the reason why we did not kneecap Hillary even though it was too easy to - it's about ANOINTING YOUR QUEEN.

I am a single professional woman who was going to vote for Mrs. Bill Clinton because I would like to see a woman be our president, until I did my research. According to exit polls, Mrs. Clinton's voters are people who are low income and less educated. (less savvy?) If you believe all what the media says, then you are allowing yourselves to be brainwashed. I hope voters take the time to get educated on all the issues, and personally investigate ALL candidate's backgrounds and history.
Posted by: Yvonne | Mar 8, 2008 9:44:21 AM
Check your facts. Maria Shriver, 1st Lady of California (R) endorsed Senator Obama, and so have several other Republicans.
Posted by: Yvonne | Mar 8, 2008 9:50:33 AM
This is funny.
Without Florida and Michigan counting.
The vote stands at 51% for Obama and 49% for Clinton.
WOW!!!!
Super delegates better note vote agaisnt the mightly HUGE MAJORITY Obama got. Whoopie.
Can you imagine super delegates BOWING DOWN to a 51% popular vote 'majority' .
Is this the ONLY case Obama can make ?
besides winning red states and caucus's????
I just dont understand why folks cant see the fact Obama cant get 2025 delegates. He needs the super delegates as well.
I think the party is split in half. There is no way Obama can bring the party together if he LOSES Pennsyvannia and still demands to be the nominee.
Clinton voters will be furious.
Clinton cant be the nominee. Obama supporters will be furious.
They have to be on a joint ticket.
Flip a coin to see is on the top.

Maria shriver is a KENNEDY. She isnt a republican. Even Arnold called her nuts for supporting Obama.
Republicans supporting Obama.
ALL REPUBLICANS ARE SUPPORTING OBAMA . Up until recently when he was WINNING TOO EASY.
Now they are supporting clinton to even it out and make the process go longer.
LOL

Maria Shriver must absolutly despise the Clintons. She comes from a class-act family with a legacy that Bill Clinton will never know and whom history will forever condemn.
Good vs. evil? Put your bets on the skinny guy from Illinois... Maria Shriver has seen much and forgotten little.

I am a Republican in Wyoming, and Obama has my vote. His ability to lead and inspire interests me. Hillary's 'resume enhancement' shows a dishonorable trend that makes me distrust her. How can someone who did not stand up to her husband when he was lying and cheating be expected to stand up to another country?
Posted by: Wyoming voter | Mar 8, 2008 4:54:17 PM
Im glad that somebody in wyoming is standing for the right thing. Hillary did not stand up to Bill and he humiliated her in front of millions of people. She was on public tv and had a vague smile during the case with Monica. that seemed fake to me. What woman has such falsality. It was not anyone business but I think Bill caught it behind closed doors. The formal first lady is out of control. He does inspire me. Hillary is to mean. The people of the united states should focus on who can make this country better. With Hillary attitude these foeringn country will hate us. By the way, Hillary has old war veterans supporting her. She has a great way of convincing the older generation is because they do not want to change with the new. Thay are people who still hate people of different color and we cannot change that. Hillary I can see right through you. You are cocentrating on elderly people because you know most of them is still hung on the old way. Who do not like people of different color. I hope you will rest well to night. Obama can handle the foerign countries and he cah handle The Iraq war. I know he will be bold and not cry out in public.Shame on you Hillary for getting these elderly ladies out to vote when they may feel like staying home to rest. You did it because you know they are with the old way. This is the time for people to see through you. Some people will never vote for a person of differnt color and you know that, but at least Obama is treating everyone the same. What is experience when you hang your dirty language out? Former first lady you need to relax your mind. Can the democratic do something about you? Stop being so mean and cruel.it is a shame to the united states of america for you to act as such.
Posted by: Wanda | Mar 8, 2008 6:26:50 PM

falsehope,
Just so you know, only 1/3 of the delegates from my state, Texas is given out according to caucus results. In any case, don't be so quick to give Tx. to Hillary so easily. Texas Democrats, most of us, cannot stand the Clinton's, I know b/c I am one of them. She only won by 4 points and I suspect it was even less than that, were there not for so many problems all over the state - which there always is...and don't forget the caucus results.....when it is all said an done, he will come out on top. Besides, she only won ONE more delegate than he did from the primary results - so much for a win.
