Clinton Surrogate Calls Obama a "Kid"
March 19, 2008 1:39 PM
ABC News' Sarah Amos Reports: It isn't unusual for former President Bill Clinton to run 30 or 45 minutes late to an event. In such cases, the campaign ordinarily just plays upbeat music or has a couple of energetic local officials come up and tell the crowd why they are supporting Hillary.
However, today's interim act took an interesting turn when Pennsylvania's Lieutenant Governor, Catherine Baker Knoll, took the stage in Bethlehem, PA.
Lt. Governor Knoll began by talking about her relationship with Hillary and Bill Clinton over the years, sharing her experiences to prove why Hillary is the best choice for President.
But it was Knoll's description of Hillary's opponent at the end of her speech that perked ears in the press riser.
"So, we're up against a new young kid, who's a nice young kid. I'm only saying: think it over, tell your friends and your neighbors and your family. There's nothing like experience," Knoll told the crowd. While not the worst description a surrogate could use for Senator Barack Obama, many might argue that a 46 year old man is anything but a "kid."
Knoll's speech was also unusual because of its heavy focus on policy. While most surrogates stick to broad talking points about Hillary, Knoll chose to go into heavy specifics.
With today being the anniversary of the war in Iraq, Knoll had strong words about what she called people "celebrating" the anniversary of the war.
"I'm very familiar with this. I have not been to Iraq, but I live in the middle of the National Guard down in Indian Time Gap. I've seen our kids we've lost, because the cemetery is right there. And I've seen our kids down at Walter Reed," Knoll told the crowd, adding, "Most of you aren't aware of
this, because you're not exposed to it. But it's very, very serious, and we have to think this over, because look at all these beautiful young people here today. We don't want to be celebrating like we're celebrating today. Oh, this is the sixth year in Iraq. C'mon! Let's think this over.”
And her initial remarks weren't the last time the crowd would get to hear from Knoll. After two more local speakers delivered short remarks, it became apparent that the crowd still had quite a bit more time on their hands until President Clinton would arrive.
And so Knoll reappeared, this time to answer questions from the crowd. One question focused on gun control in America and got Knoll into trouble with many in the crowd.
"That's a very serious subject, because, you know, I've always been supported by NRA. But I will tell you that I am don't agree with everybody being able to buy as many guns as they want. Because if you go into Philadelphia - I'm sure some of you have been there - you can go into their stores and you can buy five or six guns at once. Did you know that? On the same day. Do you think that's right? I think it should be one gun a month," said Knoll. While her initial comments had most of the crowd agreeing with her, the last remarks turned off a large portion of the audience, some of who began shouting, "No."
Despite her rocky reception, Knoll continued to stall as long as she could. At one point, the crowd even asked her to sing - a request she politely declined. Finally, it was clear she was out of ideas, and so she exited the stage, hinting as she left that maybe they should play the music again.

WestCoastMessager, a true democrate will not qualify another democrat a kid. Democrats have values and standards, they have ethics and moral. Obama has been qualified as Ken Starr by Hillary staff. Today another of her supporter is calling Obama a kid. You do not find that that is going too far and too low. There will never be an other opportunity for Bill to mess-up with interns at the White House, real promise from a real democrate. OBAMA08.

Compared to McCain wouldn't 98% of all americans be considered kids. Obama is the real deal. Those of you that haven't researched him should do so. You'll find that he is America's best hope. Hillary would do a good job, but I fear that she is too divisive and might lose in the fall. If you haven't read or heard Obama's speech you should because this speech was historic and will be talked about for generations. He wrote the speech himself, something I don't think bush has ever done. Obama 2008!

Obama supporter here...
Non story.

BKMC,
I didn't insult you, I promoted you to the VP role on a ticket with OBAMA. I'm supporting this ticket, the first kids to be elected President and Vice President. After all, you were the one that said your side was "BETTER". Your sandbox is BETTER than my sandbox and I want to jump on board with your sandbox (Oh, wait is that a bit of cat litter there). I want what is "BETTER" for America. Jeremiah Wright for Secretary of State while we're at it.

Another older woman who's man bashing. Older women have been used to giving away their power to men ... usually, weak men. And weak men have been used to betraying these powerful 'mother' figures in their lives, usually their wives. What boy wants to sleep with their mother? Women ARE taking back their power now and owning it. But they are angry about giving it away in the first place ... believing they had no other options (perhaps rightly so) at the time. What they fail to realize is that they are angry at themselves for giving away their power in the first place. They express this anger by trying to diminish men. These are the 'feminists' who are voting for Hillary. These older women have yet to deal with their anger at themselves and believe that the power they seek to restore is somehow outside of themselves (the White House) rather than being an innate power they can only realize from within. To do that they must first face themselves and stop projecting their anger onto men. Signed Been there, Done That

BKMC,
If you don't count me then don't count on me. OBAMA does not have an inherent RIGHT to one single vote from Florida or Michigan in the fall election. It will be his privilege if he gets votes. This isn't a basketball match decided by a referee. People through all of history have been willing to sacrifice their own blood to make sure their vote is counted. Where is the reference to that in any rulebook?
Posted by: WestCoastMessenger | Mar 19, 2008 3:20:13 PM
WestCoastMessager, people has died for fairness for justice and for equality. Nobody will say that Obama or Hillary have inherent rights to anything. That is not the question. The important point is to act by the rule of law and that is fundamental in everything we are doing. The right to vote is not above the right to justice.
Posted by: BKMC | Mar 19, 2008 3:25:42 PM
BKMC,
That is where we diverge, the right to vote, and to have your vote counted, in this nation of laws, is at the CORE of JUSTICE. You would have it any differently?

Once again another Hillary surrogate proves that most of her supporters are menopausal post feminists with chips on their shoulders about a big as the one on Wright because the ERA amendment failed so many years ago. Again and again they try to pain Obama as a "Kid", "a Boy," or inexperienced when their own Saint Hillary the Entitled is no more qualified then he is to be president. It's the Forrest Gump argument, well she was there at historical events so she must have been involved. For all the feminist rhetoric about Hillary it boils down to the fact she's been riding her husbands coat tails for years. She got into the senate against a laughable opponent and has done nothing but sit and wait for her moment of inevitability. When it didn't happen as she planed suddenly she'll re write ever rule to try to get herself the nomination. If Obama was 100+ delegates down and he tried to change the rules people like WestCoast would be arguing the other direction. SHE IS LOSING. GET OVER IT.

QuestinoEvi-So then I take it YOU want to give the republicans FL and MI even before the general begins? Whose side are you on anyway? Furthermore, do older ladies votes count?
Posted by: Dogsoldier | Mar 19, 2008 3:42:54 PM
how does this give them Florida? I am from Florida. I voted, and frankly everything about this revote is a bunch of sour grapes. The Repulbican legislature put us in this mess, and Howard Dean made it worse by not doing something about this before now. If the tables were reverse and Hillary was way up in delegates and Obama's only way of catching her was to try to bring in results of two contests that he won in a slanted and unbalanced way some how I doubt you or any other Clintonistas would be clamoring for the us poor and disenfranchised people in Florida. What about all the poor an disenfranchised people in all these other late voting states, its only by miraculous events that their votes even count. Remember the campaign according to the Hillary camp was supposed to be over on super Tuesday. If she had sealed the deal on that day would you be sitting here feeing the people of Texas, Ohio and Pennsylvania didn't get their fair chance to vote because the primary ended too quickly? Would that be any less democratic. You can't change the rules in the middle of a contest just because your candidate is losing, that's the GW Bush way, that's how he stole Florida in 2000.

"kid" At 46 he is called a kid. After 20 years of civil service and elected office, he is a '"kid" If HRC is so sure that her additional 4 years in the senate has so prepared her to be President, and that experience is the end all be all, then why does she not throw her support behind Senator McCain, who clearly has more experience? She has no quality record of judgement, this is why she does not want to have this argument.
Posted by: Louis | Mar 19, 2008 3:58:11 PM
in all fairness the Lt. Governor of Pennsylvania is 77 years old. so anyone that doesn't qualify for Medicare is probably a kid by her standards.

The Commander Guy-Louis-You guys are good republicans. I give you both that much. TCG I believe you were with Huckabee if I'm not mistaken. Louis, I take it you're saying a vote for Obama is a vote for Reverend Wright? Correct?
Posted by: Dogsoldier | Mar 19, 2008 4:06:17 PM
So Dogsoldier. By your math anyone who doesn't believe that Hillary Clinton should be our next president is a closet republican? This kind of divisive slash and burn crap being put out by Hillary's people now that she is not the anointed one is not only insulting but it is dangerous. It wreaks of the crap you'd expect from Fox Noise or the other members in good standing in the right wing conspiracy. A vote for Hillary Clinton is a vote for a John McCain white house. After watching her when her back is against the wall I'm wondering exactly what her appeal is. She is schizophrenic, if shes not the angry Hillary, she is the Hillary with a tear in her eye, or the experienced fighter, the concerned mother figure, the aloof angry feminist, or the cold calculating robot. Her message is "I'm so unpredictable and all over the place no one knows what Hillary they'll get from day to day." She will say anything and do anything to win the nomination and the Republicans can wait because they have 20 years of material on her waiting to go. She is like a ray of sunshine to them, the one thing that really inspires them to come out and vote and she would rather destroy Obama so she can run again in 4 more years then elect another democrat to the white house. That doesn't speak to well of her character.

President Bush said today that because we invaded Irak, our country is better off and the world is safer. No regrets, Man, he says.
Wonder if HRC agrees.
Dog. I started a blog if you wanna check up on me.

According to Obama lastnight on Night Line interview he said: "Condemn the words, don't condemn the man".
I condemned Imus for his words last time but I would like to ask Obama where is your justice since you asked Imus to resign?
From now on,,,Obama ,anything people say or your opponents say " Don't condemn the man just condemn the words" will you?

Yes, Cookie Roberts said it,,as much as his supporters also. That's why he is coming to Portland,OR this friday and some cities which lots of college students.
He expects he can rally those college students.

crisis08, you are comparing a semon to a radio talk show vilifying a team of young women basket ball players. No let us not mix apples and oranges. Hillary will be mean because she wants to win, but it is impossible for her to win, she has to live with that. She just has to remeber that there is a tomorrow after the elections and she will need to work with Barak to get the democrats behind him to beat McCain as a drum. OBAMA08.

Well, now we know how to get to WCM -- just mention Ken Starr and he gets all queasy like!!!! Hmmm...
Interesting that Hilns has been given a free pass from both the MSM and the Obama campaign so far on those issues.
Interesting how we should give that "old stuff" a rest, but you keep harping on "20 years" regarding the Wright nonsense, when it's clear that you are exaggerating both the intensity and number of those.
Ken Starr, Ken Starr!!!!!!! Whitewater!! Rose Law Firm!!!
