Meeting Folks, Getting Votes -- Bill Clinton's Last Push in Texas

ABC News' Sarah Amos reports: Former President Bill Clinton spent the day in Texas shaking hands in support of his wife's candidacy, and worrying out loud about unconfirmed reports of vote irregularities.

As he made his way to an elementary school in Austin, the former president told the crowd, "We have had some very disturbing reports at some places where Hillary is strong, that people are coming to these places and saying that the caucuses have been cancelled and they don't have to come back, and I just got two different calls about it, so we just gotta emphasize that there is going to be a caucus at every one of these polling centers."

While none of these claims have been verified, Clinton went on to tell reporters that there have also been reports of tampering with Texas caucus sign-in sheets.

"The other thing is that some people have been told, apparently, that there is going to be an effort to sign up in advance and slip the sheets in. And nobody's signature counts unless you sign up after the polls close, so we are going to have a caucus at every polling site, and you cannot sign until the caucus begins -- that's the only signatures that are worthwhile. We gotta get everybody to play by the rules. It's a little bit complicated, but we can do it, and it is going to be a great night," said Clinton.

Clinton was enthusiastic and optimistic about today's election results, suggesting the momentum may be moving in his wife's favor.

"This things moving a lot, you can just feel it in the last three or four days, people are finally beginning to take a serious look at the election, at the choices they have," Clinton told reporters at the polling location, adding "the more people know her, the more they come to trust her, the more they believe in her, the more they realize she delivers."

The ex-president showed some early reservation about Ohio voter turnout due to heavy storms across the state.  "Its a good turnout here, and the weather’s good over most of Texas today, different from Ohio where the weather is very bad in a lot of parts of Ohio, so it's hard to know," said Clinton.

As soon as Clinton walked through the doors of the student center at Texas State University in San Marcos, he was mobbed by students and faculty alike.  However, most in the crowd seemed more interested in having him sign their sneakers or answer to the name "Bubba," than promising to vote for Hillary.

"Thank you for supporting her -- thank you," Clinton said. "You oughta go back to the caucus tonight, bring some of your friends. But nobody can go if they don't vote today. "

Clinton did 58 interviews on radio and TV today, since 6 a.m., from inside his car, in-between stops. At one location, he stayed in the car, finishing a round of interviews before going into a restaurant.

While Clinton was focused on his wife all day, one reporter tried to get him to speak about the OTHER candidate and his involvement with a certain legal case in Chicago.

"I think that that is not for me to say," said Clinton, in regard to Sen. Barack Obama's involvement in the ongoing Tony Rezko trial in Chicago.  "The main thing, like any other, is facts should come out and then voters can decide."

I still like the days when Bill Clinton was president. The life quality and US image were much better than today. With this, I totally believe Bill's wife has more capability / experience than Obama

I am so sick of Obama and his "I am perfect" attitude that I turn the tv off whenever I see him....

Thank you Ohio. I'll vote for Hillary - but nver for Obama or McCain. Obama's empty rhetoric, a shady past, evasiveness, and little experience or accomplishment don't make it for me. McCain is a leech who has suckled from the federal trough for his entire life, supports masss murder, appears to be corrupt, and appears to be a moron. Come on Texs - you may have given us the morons and bums Johnson and bush in the past, but maybe you can pull it out for Hillary.

Let's see... Bill Clinton left office with a 60% approval rating amidst all the bad publicity that obviously most Americans didnt care about. At the start of this campaign he was polled as having an 80% approval rating among Dems. It is not hard to tell that there are Obamites and Republicans in the minority posting against a man who is considered to be one of the best Presidents this country has ever had and is simply promoting his spouse's campaign. McCain's wife is the mistress from his first marriage that he cheated with yet I dont see slander about her or McCain. Do I even care whether Michelle and Obama have marital problems? No. Try posting something of substance for those bucks Axelrod is paying you. LOL

If there is anyone who is an expert on lying, it would be Bill or Hillary Clinton.

Jack51: I am from Chicago and I know about dirty politics here for a very long time. Obama played dirty pool to the woman that was running against him and Rezko helped him out. Obama kept company with crooks and Rezko bought the home that Obama lives in no matter what Obama states. For a man that wants to be president of this country he has a very dirty background. Farrakhan, Rezko and Ayers. Thank goodness she made the media eat crow last night again. Hillary won the major states while Obama won one major state, Illinois, and the rest are nickel and dime states. Hillary is on her way to win Pennsylvania and hopefully she will win Mississippi, Kentucky and Indiana. I believe she will be the nominee unless dirty pool is played by Howard Dean an Obama supporter. And Howard Dean is bad news. I remember when he was running for the presidency. What a mess that was and John Kerry lost himself and turned his back on Hillary along with Ted Kennedy whom Bill Clinton supported both of them when they were running for office.

I read the comments on the Hillary hater's and that's just too bad. She won the three states and put him to shame before he could celebrate as the news media stated he was ready to do. Never underestimate what the voter's will do and they did the right thing voting for Hillary. Obama is just a junior senator and is not ready to be president of this country. McCain did a good job on Obama questioning his ability to run the country and his experience to talk to world leaders. That was a big help in Hillary winning. Good for her and I hope she wins PA.

I actually have the video of him signing the shoe. It was my friend who had him sign it

All you Clinton haters are sick. You love to make up stories. Millions of Texas and Ohio voters are not wrong. The country was in great shape during the Clinton years compared to how the country has fared the past 8 years. Obama continues to talk the talk but he won't be able to walk the walk without the cooperation of Congress (which continues to be Republican). If elected Obama will be another Bush, another Carter. If he can't even close it in a primary, he won't be able to close it when it counts.
