MoveOn.org Holds Pro-Obama Ad Contest
March 13, 2008 12:55 PM
ABC News' Teddy Davis and Jacqueline Klingebiel Report: Calling all YouTubers, Millennials and Hollywood addicts: bring on the user-generated content!
MoveOn.org, which has endorsed Barack Obama for president, is encouraging citizens to develop 30-second pro-Obama television ads which will be judged by Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Oliver Stone, multiple Grammy-winner John Legend and others.
The ad contest, which organizers are calling "Obama in 30 Seconds," provides the opportunity for Obama supporters to creatively show what inspires them about the Senator’s candidacy. Contestants will be allowed to submit their ads between March 27th and April 1st.
Beginning April 4th, MoveOn members and the public more generally will have a chance to vote on which ads advance to the finals.
On April 10th, the finalists will be announced and the panel of judges will begin judging the final ads.
The winning ad, and ad-maker, will be announced on April 17th--just before Pennsylvania's April 22nd primary.
MoveOn will then spend an undisclosed amount of money to air the ad on "national television." The winning ad-maker will receive a gift certificate for $20,000 in video equipment.
"After eight years of President Bush campaigning on fear and war, people are feeling hopeful again. They're eager to talk about what inspires them about our country -- and Senator Obama leading it," said Eli Pariser, Executive Director of MoveOn.
"Since creative and grassroots energy has helped power Barack Obama's campaign from the start, this contest is a great way to deliver that message of hope to voters in Pennsylvania and across the nation."
For more information on the new ad contest, visit: http://www.obamain30seconds.org/.

Wow- what a heyday the Republicans will have with Pastor Wright being Obama's mentor and preacher for 20 years!! If Obama is the candidate- I will vote for Nader.

Howard Dean- not that I think you have your head screwed on right- step in and get this charleton Obama off of the stage NOW! The great unifier is really the master divider in sheeps clothing. FLIM FLAM man! I thought this DNC race would be above factions - and special interst groups and you have a nominee that is secretly representing only 10% of this country.

Wouldn't you love to see Oprah and Mr. Wright on the same stage rallying for Obama.
Anyone hear of **** hitting the fan!!!!!
Come on Oprah, where are you? Why aren't you sticking up for your pastor.
Gonna have him on your show soon! You are nothing but a hyprocrite yourself, little Miss Oprah!!!!

When the media sweep this stuff under the rug, like obama church, obama playing the race card, it is still too late the regular folk never forget.

Stella....
I'd like to see those 100 reasons (and not that cut and past crap that the Clinton propogandist trolls like to spam the forum with).
100 good, viable reasons.
Convince me.

2009 I think you have a good handle on the sham Obama's campaign is pulling on this country. Obama is not even truly aligned with this country - to be its commander in chief - YIKES!!! I am not at all for McCains policies - but I have no doubt that he loves this country. That is way more than I can say for the Obamas!
Posted by: this election counts | Mar 13, 2008 2:16:46 PM
I can't believe all of these ignorant people want to hold Obama responsible for things his pastor said. Wow. Am I responsible for all my pastor says? Because he says gays are going to hell and I don't believe that at all. But I love my church and I prefer to work for change from within. Sen. Obama has said that he doesnt agree with all of Wright's statements, and soundly rejects some of them. Let's check out Hillary and John McCain's pastors while we're at it to make this thing fair.

Dog...
While you're at it there, why don't you add in some of the face time that Geraldine Ferraro's been getting in the MSM lately, and title that ad "What I wanna be when I grow old...ambitions of a racist politician."
I think it would make a nice rebuttal argument. :-)
Posted by: Dingodude | Mar 13, 2008 2:23:09 PM
Gee Whiz! How many "speicial interest" groups support the Dems? By the time the DNC takes care of all the I.O.U's to the special interests groups their promises to the American people who elected them remains "unstarted and incomplete".
DNC = Special Interest
p.s MoveOn is a left-wing hate group...............Obama should, if he were smart, dissassociate himself from "that" hate.

Stella...
I appeciate your contribution, but allow me to reciprocate the favor...
Unless you can prove to me that any of this is confirmable (and the Clinton folks have the burden of proof to prove on that). If you can't, and all of the stuff that's coming out here in the forum is "guilt by association", than you have no case.
You can't win an argument based only on circumstantial evidence.
You'll have to do better than that, or all I'll be forced to do is repudiate your comments. :-)

Dingodude: To be perfectly honest, I am an independent...but I will say this, that if I as a Catholic am okay with voting for a democrate(my mind is still not made up), it certainly will not be Obama. Hillary is by far a much more favorable choice.
John Edwards and Hillary would be for the Democrates amd Ron Paul for the Republican. So, Yes I am not ashmaed to say whom I would vote for and whom I am totally against. In fact, in our Catholic Churches, there is a booklet titled "How serious Catholics should vote"...and believe me Obama is way at the bottom of the list..in fact if we catholics vote for Obama, we cannot receive communion.
So Hillary is the better choice or over to the Republican side we go.

Why doesn't McCain video tape speeches given at Hagee's church? Who gave him an endorsement? When he said AMERICA DESERVED KATRINA????????
I will tell you why, because lot's of preachers say things many in their congrations do not fully support. Kinda like supporting a canadate for office and NOT buying EVERY idea they have?
Posted by: Karen | Mar 13, 2008 2:49:08 PM
In fact there was a survey that was taken and it was presented on CNN last week on the evening news. The report said that Obama is getting hardly any catholic votes. In fact, Obama is only getting 19% of the Catholic vote while Hillary Clinton is getting 68%.
The fact is, that the Catholic vote will be the swing vote...not cetain states as the media keeps predicting.
It is said that the democratic catholics will vote mainly for Hillary. When asked these Catholics, if Obama wins, what will they do...most of the Catholics said then will go over to the Republican side and vote for McCain.
You see, the serious catholics will probably vote for McCain anyways, but there are some not-so-serious catholic middle-aged and older women Catholics whom are voting for Hilalry, but said they would switch over to McCain, if Obama wins.

Domestic Terrorism started with Many folks not forget about Timothy Mcvay. African American who came from slavery and discrimination deserve to be treated better. Mr wright spoke about the Us foreign policy and the suffering of Black people. People do not have the right to denounce what was done to them? do not forget that black people have never been integrated in this country. the government is fighting for the cause of Israeli while they have the most shameful acts that they have committed in the past towards blacks and native Americans. you have to be Black to understand how much they have suffered. I am white who traveled across the world and know exactly how our govt function.Stop being narrow minded.

Stella, do not mess with this, it is not your business, it is the Obama's people business, whatever legal strategy they want to use. Would it be stupid if Hillary Clinton came up with idea? Shut-up!
Posted by: Felix | Mar 13, 2008 3:32:24 PM
You will have to put into perspective this endorsement. It's a celebrity endorsement, which often comes across cheap, unsolicited, and quite honestly, unfair in politics, especially when it's for the presidential campaign. Matt, Ben, and Oliver, although I appreciate your efforts to showcase how Obama has inspired voters, at the end of the day, voters don't know you. Why should they care about your message or if you endorse Barack? Just because you're famous? You better come up with a better reason than that.
Posted by: Dave | Mar 13, 2008 3:40:30 PM
Why are we even talking about a campaign ad for Mr. Obama. Get the man out of the race!!!!!
Posted by: stella | Mar 13, 2008 3:54:39 PM
Obama is a fake! He is the second coming! and he ain't the good guy either!!
Wake up America!!!!!!!
Posted by: stella | Mar 13, 2008 3:56:09 PM
Hillary supporters are JEALOUS. Hahaha no one wants Hillary. hahaha

I hope an attorney has vetted this contest. It sounds like it could violate FEC or FCC rules - also, how do they get to do this as a non-profit entity?
In the end, though, it's just a pathetic stunt.
