Nancy Reagan Endorses McCain

ABC News' Bret Hovell Reports: Senator John McCain received the endorsement Tuesday of former first lady Nancy Reagan at her home in the Bel Air neighborhood of Los Angeles.

Reagan, 86, walked into her driveway slowly, holding onto McCain’s arm.

"I’m very pleased and honored to have the opportunity again to be with Mrs. Reagan and to receive her endorsement for the nomination of my party, and for president of the United States," McCain said.

Watch the VIDEO HERE.

The support of Reagan, the widow of the 40th President Ronald Reagan, was highly coveted during the Republican primary, when most of the candidates running tried regularly to cloak themselves in the Reagan mantle.

McCain, R-Ariz., has been no exception, saying regularly on the stump that he was a "foot-soldier in the Reagan Revolution," and referring to his desire to get so-called "Reagan democrats" to cross over and support his candidacy.

Nancy Reagan’s staff advised that the first lady would not be making any remarks, but as she stood arm in arm with McCain in her driveway, she did jump in to answer a question about the timing of her endorsement.

"Ronnie and I always waited until everything was decided and then we endorsed," she said, patting McCain on the arm. "Well obviously this is the nominee of the party."

That's just cute. She's supporting him because he thinks he is Ronald Reagan.

Totally irrelevant who Nancy Reagan endorses.

That picture is interesting. Not sure which one looks more infirmed! We need a change .... no elderly guy in his 70's and not another Bush/Clinton/Bush/Clinton, etc ... We need a new direction, a REAL change.... President Obama.

This is not news worthy. If Mrs. Reagan had been supporting Clinton or Obama - that - would have been news worthy.

Ms Reagan was a First Lady! What is the problem with you fools?
McCain 08 (the best)

The thing I can't stand about Obama supporters is that they have no respect. Actually Obama has no respect either and that is why he has such a hate for this country. Nancy Reagan has served this country in the past and should be given her due respect.

There is a widespread belief in the Middle East that Americans are a bunch of wussies.

Despite their military might, the one thing Americans cannot deal with are casualties. That is why Saddam invaded Kuwait. That is why Iran thumbs their nose at us. That is our biggest weakness - too many wussies.

Patton's army in France in 1944 suffered nearly 4,000 casualties a day for several months against the Germans. My! My! My! - how times have changed!

The hell with Clinton, Obama, and McCain! Lets vote for Nancy! She has more experience then all of them combined. Well, at least if you follow Hillary's line of reason any way lol.

I respected Reagans very much, though I do not agree with some of his policies. I like his optimism. The US is the greatest country on earth and better days are always ahead of us.

I am shocked about Hillary's excuse of "I am sleep deprived." Think about when she had to get up for that 3 am call, what else is she going to MISSPEAK!

The dems are just irritated because hillary clinton is the only "lady" they can point to.

When Reagan supoorters talk about Reagan they all say he made them feel good. He restored pride in America. Open question to Reagan supporter what did he do to restore your pride in America? Wally, Vic, you may be right to a certain extent.

Who cares who she supports??? McCain is another BUSH and this country can not take another BUSH...

I always liked her husband Ronald as an actor and President. He was the greatest.

Oh, big deal. McCain is proving to be the biggest DUD ever to run for president. The man cannot keep his foot out of his mouth. Had Obama held an impromptu press conference in say, Jordan and delivered remarks confusing Shia and Sunni only to be "corrected" by say, Bill Richardson, he would have been laughed out of the race. And don't get me started on his little-noticed lobbyist problem. When will the press stop coddling him? The last thing we need is another embarrassment for president. The man is running an uninspired, compromised, pandering, reflexive campaign with nothing to offer. The time to scrutinize him is now, before we are stuck with him. God forbid.

An endorsement is an endorsement... it just depends on who is doing it and who that person will help convince. Farrakhan’s endorsement, while pooh-poohed by just about everyone and even disavowed by Sen. Obama could still help Obama with Black Muslims, radical or otherwise.

Mrs. Reagan’s endorsement is obviously not convincing some of you but to those who are not moved, I would venture to say that you are not tending towards McCain anyway. Many people still have a fondness for the Reagans' and this endorsement will at least dispose that crowd positively toward McCain. As for me, I much more appreciate and respect Nancy Reagan’s endorsement over Obama Girl’s “musical omage” any day.

Damn, now he's a lock for that elusive over-80 white guy vote. I guess Nader is out of the running now.

DCVoter - I'd say, lighten up a bit on Obamagirl. If it's one thing this grinding process needs its a little humor. It is kind of hilarious that after all that she didn't get around to voting. Have you seen the "its raining McCain" video? Priceless, surreal.
