Pelosi Reacts to Spitzer Scandal
March 14, 2008 1:49 PM
ABC News' Lindsay Hamilton reports: Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., reacted to the Gov. Elliot Spitzer, D-N.Y., prostitution scandal Friday in an interview with ABC News' George Stephanopoulos.
Pelosi said the scandal is "sad, very sad for his family, tragic, hard to understand."

"I feel very sad for the Spitzer family, for his parents, who are lovely, and for his wife and children. And I pray that they can be made whole," Pelosi added.
"What is it about powerful men, do you think -- politicians -- that they get into these situations?" Stephanopoulos asked.
"Well, I wouldn't just ascribe it to -- I'm sure that this is not confined to politics and that there are some, you know -- these things happen in every walk of life," Pelosi responded.
The Speaker also looked ahead to Monday when Lt. Gov. David Paterson will be sworn in as New York's governor.
"As we go forward, David Paterson is absolutely great," Pelosi said. "He's just going to be a spectacular governor of New York. I'm a big fan of his. I've watched him in the state senate over the years and I wish him much success."

PELOSI is attempting to position herself as a national voice, possibly attempting to pursue the number two positon on the Democratic ticket. If she had spoken up BEFORE he resigned I might pay attention. She rides coattails and is too risk adverse to be a leader, in my opinion. I do not think HILLARY CLINTON would ever pick Pelosi for the number two seat.

Go Pelosi.

I think Pelosi would be an exceelent candidate in Hillary's administration. I do believe that Obama is toast, especially since he is now praising his buddy, Rev. Wright.
The more I read about this man, Obama, the sicker I am getting.

Go ahead, choose another looser for office just because they are a Democrat. She is bad for California, she is bad for the country. Just another 2 faced politician. She fights to take away guns from law abiding citizens, but happily has hers and has them for her family. Can't trust her as far as I could throw her.

A left wing idiot talking about another left wing idiot. Its a wonder ABC put the (D) beside their names, they usually don't identify democrats under scandal, Next to resign because of a sex scandal is DEMOCRAT mayor of Detroit

Obama and his preacher...
What if Clinton's religious leader professed opinions this strongly, against the black population?
Just sayin'...

Pelosi is worthless, the more things change the more they stay the same. The Dems have fixed nothing of what was and still is wrong in Washinton. As far as Clinton and/or Obama I would rather vote for a convicted felon @ least that way I know what I started with, both of those two change thier mind with each passing day.

Pelosi has failed to be an effective leader via her lack of positive and significant actions. Her exaggeration, the same as Obama's, by using the words tragic and tragedy to describe marital infidelity is pathetic. This is an obvious political move on her part as is all her other rhetoric.
tragic - very sad; especially involving grief or death or destruction
tragedy - calamity: an event resulting in great loss and misfortune

steve - actually next to resign will probably be the Judge appointed by GW Bush that was just identified as a customer of Denver prostitutes, ie. another male who happens to be Republican. Personally, we all know that men tend to cheat more than women but what does that have to do with their ability to do the job they are elected to do? Nothing - unless they violate the law. Hiring prostitutes is currently against the law so he should resign as did Spitzer.
However, marital infidelity in itself is not a crime and has no correlation to one's ability to do their job unless they neglect their duties to participate in it. I personally believe in monogamy but I do not believe the government in any form or fashion has the right to judge people on that matter.
I believe in the separation of church and state. The institution of marriage or the violation of its vows is a religious one and has no place in our laws anyway. "Marital" benefits under law is afforded by a process that is civil - a license. It should be called civil unions and be afforded to anyone wanting to enter into a civil partnership without regard to sexual intimacy. There are plenty of "married" couples who are not intimate. Should we take their marital benefits away? How do we enforce that? Do we spy in their bedrooms?

It is time to celebrate men and women who stand on a foundation of sound ideas and who do not pander and deceive. Nancy Pelosi is not one of those people. It is time to celebrate men and women who will give up everything for freedom. Not take it from us like Nancy Pelosi and her ilk. It is time not to accept the premise that a tragedy has occurred when a celebrated unprincipled tyrant falls, like Eliot Spitzer.

Doesn't Pelosi understand that true leaders are out in front on issues, not after polls have been taken? Th last thing Obama needs is this self-righteous woman on his ticket.

Nancy Pelosi would not be a good choice for Obama. I like Joe Biden for VP spot.

I am in amazement with everything that is happening in politics, but having said that, I think who inspires me most is Obama because he seems to motivate the crowd. I don't have anything against Mrs. Clinton or Nancy Pelosi as both have their political careers and perhaps someday, I will be able to meet all three. Lastly, I am sorry about Mrs. Spitzer and her three daughters who are objects of empathy. Embarrassment like what has happened to Hillary Clinton when her husband was in office should be put behind them. Time will heel but the truth does hurt! Obviously, men need to revisit their own ethics and be better role models for country or don't take office at all. Just my opinion! Thanks.

I just cant imagine what she would have said if spitzer was a republican.that guy would be strung up by his toes and beaten.plus fox is the only news channel that tells you he is a dem.

I don't think Pelosi is looking for a VP nod. Anyway, if she is, I hope it's not up to Clinton. She shouldn't get the nomination anyway. If she does, just fasten your seatbelts and brace yourself for another SPITZERing...
