Clinton: 'As President, I'll Have Your Back'
April 21, 2008 11:09 AM
ABC News' Eloise Harper Reports: Campaigning in Scranton, PA less than 24 hours before primary voting against, Clinton told the audience that she would be there for them as president. "Now we need to really bear down. The last day is here and the entire world is watching and I appreciate you having my back."
Watch the VIDEO HERE.
In a quick, peppy speech to a small but enthusiastic crowd, Clinton said "Here's what I want you to know as president I'll have your back." The boisterous crowd started chanting "Madam! President!" interrupting the New York senator, who followed up saying "it does sound pretty good, doesn't it?"
Making her final push Clinton urged the crowd to help bring her campaign to victory. "In the next 36 hours do everything you can. Convince people to go vote who say they are not going to vote. Take your friends to the polls. Tell your friends and neighbors. Make the case for the kind of results that we desperately need."
Clinton delivered some of her classic subtle jabs at her opponent saying voters wouldn’t have to take a "leap of faith" on her. She also said t"some people say yes we can, but that doesn't mean we will. I believe we will." Clinton's Scranton speech today came in a town where she began her Pennsylvania campaign and where her family has roots. The Senator from New York has three more stops around Pennsylvania, including a night time rally with her husband in Philadelphia.

Clinton makes Obama look like a wimp! Sorry, that's just the way it looks. I'm sure Obama is a fine young gentleman, it's just that comparatively, she's one tough seasoned politician who knows how to get things done.

"small but enthusiastic crowd"?
Interesting that in Hillary's "hometown" of Scranton she can only gather a small crowd. Yesterday Obama drew a crowd of 4800 in Hillary's "hometown".

WestCoastMessanger, you are too biased towards your Hill the Bosnian General, she is not tough but well seasoned in the Washington politics of lobbysts and self interest. That is what Obama wants to change and get the government back to people and not to keep it between the hands of lobbysts. No elitist and top-down politics as Hill is used to but bottom-up leadership. Obama knows how to get things done, but from Hill we remember the HillaryCare which collapsed early on in 1993. That is our great souvenir of Hill at national level. God bless america and God bless Obama.OBAMA08.

Tomorrow, the world will see that at the end the American people are not stupid. They are not as dumb as OB thought . At the end of the day, they can see who is the evil doer and who is not. The truth will prevail as who is the one that will lead this nation to a good future. Ohio lesson will repeat itself that evil money could not buy success. Congrats to you Mrs. President. You will be the ONE that makes history.

I believe the people who have yet to vote will see with their own eyes, and hear with new ears the things being said and done by Obama and his staffers. He is blending right in with all the other politicians who have been here before him, and is proving he is human, and just like the rest of them. Why not choose experience over someone who gives good speeches, but hasn't backed any of the words in action? He is a charming, charismatic man, but we have had enough of those running the country already. Step aside gentleman, and let the women show you how to move a country in the right direction with such astonishing accuracy and diplomacy you will have to wonder why it has taken so long.
Go Hillary!

"I'll have your back" sounds like someone who should focus her work in the Senate.
and if you look at honestly... the Clintons have a reputation of not having anyone's back unless they are needed.
too many people who thought the Clintons would have their back found out soon enough... they didn't like the baggage.

What change? Change in our pockets after 28% tax?
Posted by: dem process is toast | Apr 21, 2008 11:33:43 AM
well let's see a POTENTIAL 50% RISE at most on the capital gains...how much is that?
or a WAR that is going to cost trillions and not make us safer...
or the incalculable sum of setting up a protective and open-ended "umbrella" promising without respect to congressional oversight where we react with "MASSIVE" force on behalf of any country for any attack by a rogue nation... yeah the tab for policing the world...is a greater recruiting tool for the terrorists, reduction of national security, and a blank check for a woman who voted to remove congressional oversight of a President going to war... and has never apologized for that vote.

Ok - after all the years I've watched the Clintons being supeaoned, questioned, etc., including the days of Pres Clinton admitting he lied under oath, Hillary being the first First Lady to have to testify in front of a Grand Jury - to today of her outright lies about Bosnia, their sluggish way of turning over information (Clinton Library donor records and 2007 taxes) - I have NO faith in them.
I do have faith in Obama - he's brought out the vote and gotten Americans involved again. That's what it will take from the White House - voter participation, not lies and closed doors.

She probably meant to say, vote for me or watch your back. :-))

What is WITH you folks and this Bosnia crap? Look at your own candidate, why don't you. And wasn't that him having a beer the other day with some PA voters? I thought he was against that kind of "do anything to get elected" politics. But I guess he was just thirsty, huh?

Obama has appeal that we havent seen since Bill ran in 1992. There is 3 big differences.
- Bill was govenor of Arkansas for 12 years. Yes that makes a huge difference.
- The media was balanced, and in fact kept on trying to attack Clinton about his affairs.
- Bill was a Reagan Democrat. The 'new' democrats who broke from the Carter mold and reached into the center.
Obama is a straight Carter liberal, and he has unfortunate ties to even farther left radicals.

The change we will get under BO, is a disruptive change in the way we live and not for the better.
Posted by: dem process is toast | Apr 21, 2008 12:01:35 PM
If I were running against BO and he stated that he was only 4 years old when Ayres did the bombing I would respond that I wasn't even born when Hitler started his war, but I certainly renounce him--the telling truth would be that Ayres is still not repentent. If Hitler were still alive, I'm sure he wouldn't be, either!!!!

Do you really think we would be having this panic in the Democratic Party if they just did their homework and found out more about this Obama character. Their hatred for the Clintons vs. winning is going to destroy the party. Maybe we will get a third party to answer the dated call of the Marxist Obama and the ultra-left Democratic fringe!

In my most humble opinion, any person running for the Office of the President of the United States should exhibit the abilities to exercise stewardship over her or her campaign funds and resources. It appears as though Hillary is running in the red. If her campaign is running in the red, then how can she effectively exercise good stewardship over our country's resources? For the record, my choice of a good candidate is not running in this year’s election, but ran in the 1992 election.

WILL OBAMA QUALIFY for TOP SECURITY CLEARANCE?
Looking at Obama's friendships, associations and in some cases close relationships with people like William Ayers, Mr. Wright, Farrakhan etc who publicaly maintain anti-American and racist sentiments - I do not think he CAN GET 'TOP SECURITY CLEARANCE'. Shouldn't that be a BASIC CRITERIA for someone who is running for 'President' of USA?

Stacey, have you forgotten this is Monday, a working day? Most people have to work on Monday, unless they just do not need the job or the money. Sunday, yesterday, sounds like a good day for a family outing, something to do on a Sunday afternoon. Was O giving out free ice cream? How many young people were there fainting before their American idol? I guess a workday would be perfect for holding a caucus, so that the throng of newly registered voters could intimidate the working voters who were able to attend. That is how O got most of his delegates. This contest is not over, even though some of you have been calling for the other candidate to get out of the way and crown him King. There is a long way to go before all of the American voters have voted.
The last debate, just like all the previous debates, showed just how weak and lacking in knowledge and experience that your candidate is. The people in Pennsylvania, just like Ohio and Texas, know when someone like Obama is selling them a false bill of goods. They will choose Hillary!

Did anyone who watched the "compassion forum" really believe the fake air of sweetness and light put on by Hilary? She acted like she had just been endorsed by God Himself!
Posted by: mimi | Apr 21, 2008 1:08:36 PM
I have to call BS, in every one of her policy initiatives there is a huge benefit to one of the lobbyist groups that back her campaign. exactly whose back will she have? Her Health insurance initiative alone is going to net the insurance companies an additional $13billion a year. that is assuming that they will keep the current level of payouts for care, and with mandatory insurance why should they. not to mention that there is no legislation to keep the larger insurance companies from buying up the smaller ones. So at some point you'll have 3 or 4 to choose from.

WHY I AM NOT SUPPORTING SEN CLINTON’S CALL+++++++
During the PA debate, Sen Clinton declared that after the debate the Democratic Party will rally behind one democratic presidential candidate and win the general election.++++++++
I am a registered Democrat and has been voting Democrat for 2 decades now. However, I am an American citizen first. Democrat second. I love my country and I am willing to bear arms, fight and ready to die for the United States of America. I am not like some stupid Americans who wear blinders like a lot of Democrats or Republicans are. Although personality is important, I am not a stupid American who will vote based on personalities alone. Being cool is nothing to me. Unlike some stupid Americans, I will not vote based on race, age or sex. Although the Democrat platform is where I am more comfortable with, I am not like some stupid Americans who will vote based on Party affiliation. Unlike some stupid Americans, I will not let my vote be influenced by the media. Unlike most stupid Americans, I will not vote for a candidate with extremist views. As like other SMART Americans, I will vote for whoever is the best for the country.++++++
After careful consideration, I believe that the best person who can best serve our country is Sen Clinton. She has the experience to lead and the vision on how progress in our country can be attained. She is tenacious, courageous and has unabashed and unwavering sense of patriotism. I like her platform of Universal Healthcare, responsible withdrawal out of Iraq and plan to fix the economy.++++++++++
If Sen Clinton loses the nomination to Sen Obama, I will be voting for Sen McCain who likewise has unabashed and unwavering sense of patriotism and experience to lead.++++++++
I don’t really doubt the patriotism of Sen Obama but there are a lot of unknown about him. The unfortunate thing is the more I get to know him the more controversy about him comes out. Taking chances on somebody you don’t really know is like gambling your own money. I have gambled some money in Las Vegas and lost. I don’t intend to gamble my country to the care of Sen Obama.++++++++
If God forbids she loses the nomination and decides to support Sen Obama, I will respect her decision however painful it will be for me. I just hope that she realizes that she is likewise gambling the country in the hands of an unknown person. That is when her loyalty to the Country ends and the loyalty to the Party begin.++++++++
Again, I love my country and my loyalty belongs to our country not to any political party. I know that 30% feel the same way too and I hope that Sen Clinton understands this.++++++++++

I think the main reason some people support Obama is they like the idea of him. Sure, the idea of his politics are great, but that is NOT the reality of Obama. The reality of Obama is completely different, as we see more and more now.
People continue to amaze me. Even with overwhelming evidence, people still turn a blind eye. Remember people dancing in the street when OJ was not convicted for brutally murdering two people? Is this the same mentality we are dealing with now?
Posted by: Sarah | Apr 21, 2008 2:19:58 PM
Obama will be credited with the demise of the democratic party.
Posted by: dem process is toast | Apr 21, 2008 2:20:00 PM
Cynics have been numb'd up and zombied out by Bush so bad that that can't tell when a fresh sense of change for America is hitting them right dead in the face.
It's like comparing someone who only eats beans and only gets beans to eat when now there's a nice filet of Salmon or Rib Eye and they say, OH NO!!! There are too many unanswered questions about the steak and fish.
What morons. Can't blame them though. They are the true lost Americans in this country.
While you continue to ponder and think about what your future MIGHT be like, America will be moving forward under the leadership of Barack Obama POTUS.

Let's Frank and Merry. I am a Veteran. I turned down a position in Naval Satellite Weapons Targeting some years before Sept. 11, 2001. People who have integrity jumped in to serve our country. Commander in Chief HRC did that on Ground Zero. I read a personal story from a medical doctor who travelled from Canada as a First Responder. She was so impressed that Sen. Clinton walked around asking the teams what she could do for them. After all these years, I would be honored to serve under such a President. I have been a registered Democrat, who voted for Jesse Jackson in the name of Civil Rights. Now, I am voting for National Security and Universal Health Care for Everyone. (I have my VA Medical!)

and "dem process is toast" -
Obama will be the demise of the democratic party in the form that was created from this usurping Clinton legacy ...I agree.
The democratic party has not been in a good situation since the Clintons...you know why? oh I don't know...maybe the Clintons where we had out butts handed to us the next election because the republicans took over the congress while he was in office and then got the American people to believe that values were the sole property of the republicans because of the shenanigans with the Clintons putting their own financial and personal power legacy ahead of anything.
...and here we go again.
Posted by: dl | Apr 21, 2008 4:18:02 PM
Obama can't attack Hillary because she is a woman. He has to deflect her punches, because she can always play the victim.
Once he wins, he can be more aggressive against McCain.
His problem of attacking Hillary too hard is equal to a man hitting his wife, "she may deserve it, but you can't do it!".. That's just how it goes today.

Hillary stands tall and strong. She is the one to lead the country to produce the change we really need. At least she knows what we need to change to and has the understanding and intelligence to get us there.
Obama = empty suit. When the curtain falls who will we find pulling the strings?
