Clinton Says We Are Living Through 'George Bush's Recession'
April 06, 2008 3:29 PM
ABC News' Eloise Harper Reports: For the first time, Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., said that she belives the U.S. economy is in a recession. Clinton, vying for her party's presidential nomination, has said in the past that the U.S. is slipping towards or sliding toward a recession – but had never said explicitly that the economy was in one.
Speaking on Sunday in Missoula, Montana, Clinton expalined what she will do as president to help ease economic hardship Wwe are going to come up with, as I have put on my website hillaryclinton.com, $100 billion dollars in middle class tax cuts. Money is going to go back in your pockets. Money you can use to ride through George Bush’s Recession."
Clinton also said, while defending her argument for her vote for the Iraq war that Saddam Hussein would be envious of Osama bin Laden. "We knew that psychologically the idea that Osama bin Laden would now be given the top spot so to speak among extremists, would be very hard for Saddam to take and would probably encourage him to do something."
Sen. Clinton also offered some humor when speaking about how long it takes her to get ready compared to her opponents. Speaking about the choice voters have to make in this election, she said, "You can vote for a person based on anything. You don’t like this issue, you don’t like that issue, you don’t like the way look or how they do their hair, you vote for or against somebody on any basis."
On an even lighter note, Clinton paused and thanked someone in the crowd who complimented her hair. "Thank you I appreciate that, it was done by somebody here in Missoula," Clinton said,"That’s another thing, do you realize how much longer it takes me to get ready than my two opponents. I think I should get points for working as hard as I do for spending so much time getting ready, anyway, back to hiring a president," Clinton continued, as she got back on track and finished her closing argument.

But then, Hillary Clinton will say anything. Amazingly, there are some who still believe her. Go figure!

Surelock Homes-So what recession are you living in? Hope your gas tank needs to be filled. Maybe you even eat? No price increase there due to fuel, Wright?

The potential economic recession is a WBush-Cheney-McCain recession. Hill the Bosnian General does not need time to make her hair, the bullets from snipers in the hills will do that for her. This time around, judgement, policies and values are real facts when voting and recruting a president and not lobbysts politics, not the Q street experience and not the self proclaimed 35 years of experience. Hill the snipers'brigade is waiting for you in Bosnia. God bless America and God bless Obama. OBAMA08.

It will take a Clinton to clean up the GWB mess. Again!

Hillary finally used the "R" word. Before this only Obama has used that word on the campaign trail.
Very interesting...

....and while we argue amongst ourselves, the political hacks are stealing money right from under our noses. Whether it be Enron or bank/ mortgage lender bailouts, the system is corrupt. The political small play you (we) are are consumed with, is keeping us distracted from more important things. It just how our political and media machine want it to be. You do know they are one in the same right?
We aren'tthe greatest nation in the world anymore. we haven't been for quite some time. We aren't even second best. Who in the hell knows what the criteria for "best nation in th world" is any way. I don't remember getting to vote on it either. So tomorrow brings another day of distractions and red herrings...Not for me,how about you?

The war is killing the economy. Nobody wants to hire with the demand of energy and labor costs outta control. Add to that predatory lending, the housing crisis, endless speculation and malfeasance on Wall St., plus the fed's desire to "stimulate" the economy with short term gains and long term pains, with their constant cutting of interest rates (creating more debt) and causing inflation for those on lower and fixed incomes, while boosting the profits of the already profitable investor class. (been to the grocery recently???) I just don't see how electing Hilliary, or Obama, or especially McCain is going to solve anybody's personal misfortune. Although, you'll be hard pressed to find ANY one of them so willing to tell this (as in the TRUTH) to the American people. Lies are far more effective in election years. You get in office by telling the people that you will take care of them; But you STAY in office taking care of those in power who you are obligated to reward for putting you in. Until this realization sinks in, and you realize your fighting, parsing and engaging in endless personal attacks upon each other, (over packaging on the outside, and not any real content on the inside) Instead of those in congress who have FAR more inflence over what happens in your own backyard. (Believe me) You and your influence is forever doomed to irrelivance by your own elected officals. That is, of course, until the next election. Wake up, grow up, DO SOMETHING!!! No excuses!

Such nonsense. Vote Nader for real change. These two candidates are quacks. They're too beholding to money hungry kingpins to ever change!

I know. I know. Just words? And that garbage Obama likes to sprout. Look,I know that reading comic books is considered literature in the Obama camp.

Good for Hillary - she keeps fighting and will more than likely have a great victory in PA.
And then Obama will need to explain why he cannot win the states that are critical to democrats in November.
And her hair does look great!

That was cute. I like it when she lightens the mood up and doesn't make her stump speech just policy, policy, policy.
It doesn't matter if we're in a recession or not, who cares what we call it. All that matters is that it is almost $4/gallon to fill up our tanks. It matters that interest rates on home loans are skyrocketing. And man can that list go on and on.

I would rather have Hillary during a recession than the windbag OBAMA, the apprentice.

And setting on a personal fortune, they are living better than MOST. Give me a break. Oh, I share your pain. Please.
I don't have a problem with someone having money, but I do when they try to make themself come across as another suffering victim. And, she has being trying to convince people that she is just another Joe! That is the reason she didn't want to release her ta returns, she even admitted it.

As for whose recession is whose, be realistic. The recession we are in today and the depression that is forthcoming if major changes do not occur to stop it is directly related to the policies of the Republican party and its lack of fiscal responsibility. In other words, the republican controlled and influenced Congress combined with the rubber stamp from Bush are what got us into this mess. The dems gained a technical majority in 2006 but not enough to get anything done... and well Reid and Pelosi appear worthless but they dont have the numbers they need anyway. The republicans still control Congress unless people get smart enough to give the dems a fillibuster proof Senate and a large majority in the House this year. People need to realize it is Congress that causes all this stuff. If the President is rubber stamping it is worse. This is what happened in Reaganomics, carried forward by Bush Sr., then stalled and repaired by B. Clinton. The last 4 years of his Presidency is the only 4 of the last 35 years that the Federal Government had a balanced budget and a surplus. Bush and his cronies in Congress spent that in 3 months then plunged us into a recession while they padded their pockets with billions (not exaggerated - check the CEO and major stockholder earnings). There are a lot of reasons why we are in a recession and yes it is complex... but the buck stops with Congress and a President who signs off on bills that benefit themselves and their cronies. We need a centrist President and fiscally responsible Congress... that can only happen with an increase in dem power in Congress (9% is projected) and a centrist President. Clinton being in the same party is the obvious centrist choice but at least the dems would keep McCain in check on the war front while he agrees with much of Clinton's platform. A liberal in the WH is totally ineffective and Obama knows it. He has been telling people he wont implement anything as promised in the campaign but his financial backers and surrogates are all liberals, lobbyists, and energy company executives who will hold his feet to the fire. Obama's proposals will bankrupt this country and drive the world into a dark global depression with the exception of the Middle East. Always ask yourselves - Who Benefits?

Make no mistake... the Clinton years may have seemed good for the economy but they were the beginning of mass job lost and huge problems for our country. I worked very hard against NAFTA, GATT, and the WTO precisely because they were too imbalanced.
The Clintons spell BAD News for our economy. They are NOT what this country needs and I pray every day that the american people wake up the the lack of integrity and corruption the Clintons bring with their leadership. i have had enough of that kind of leadership!!!
I believe Senator Obama offers us a new kind of leadership than will include and involve the american people and the details to solutions being less laid out in my perception is precisely so that everyone can be heard and involved in the solutions which I think will lead to more creative and better solutions for HOW we get to universal healthcare (we can just do it overnight and I DO NOT THINK A MANDATE FOR HAVING A BODY IS A CONSTITUTIONAL WAY TO GET THERE), ending the war, restoring our economy, etc.
Change I DO Believe In!!!

Too little, too late.. the damage has been done and has become irriversible. Penn was incompetent, pure and simple. And Hilliary let it happen. If she had acted sooner, she could have been able to salvage her campaign, but then again, judgement was NEVER Hilliary's strongsuit. Be it personally (Bill), or professionally. (Um, that pesky war vote) If only Hilliary could just fire herself.

Obama is a puppet. He spends so much time 'clarifying' his statements that one wonders if he can even think.
There is a lot of money backing him up and they all expect their fair share in return dome day.
Say NO to Howdy Dudy!

We have recession-like conditions in some parts of the country and boom-like conditions in other parts. Home builders are suffering from an oversupply fueled by cheap money. Banks have tightened up on lending and only people that don't need money can borrow.Investment banks bought sub-prime loans and once defaults started no one can predict the eventual volume or assign value to the collateral (the house). Oddly, the sub-prime loan isn't limited to the U.S.; it exists throughout western Europe.
What is affecting the world is the bio-fuel boondoogle that is driving up food prices and actually creating a greater carbon problem. Corn, wheat and rice production for food purposes is falling below the world's needs. Now that is an issue that can be blamed on congress as well as that regarding the price of oil. Either ration oil-product consumption or allow more drilling in the U.S.

Scott - even the feds, Bernanke, and Wall Street agree we are in a recession and in danger of a depression without substantive changes. Traditional definitions are formed based on past conditions. We adjust definitions as things change, ie. measured responses.

Say no to people like Rev. Wright and Louis Farrakhan getting to spend the night in the Lincoln Bedroom. Those America haters do not deserve the honor. Nor does Obama deserve to be in the sacred Oval Office.

Is Hillary trying to say that when she gets that 3am phone call it is going to take her longer to get ready than her opponents. Another reason to vote for Obama I guess. Obama 2008!!!

We find it interesting that the Clinton's $109 Million income during the past seven years is the product of the "Bush recession". Imagine how well they would have really done had we not been in the depths of the recession they now attempt to peddle.

We are in a recession because of NAFTA , and our senator out sourcing our jobs for political and financial gains.
TAta Consultancy Services , Mark Penn and bill Colombian Trade deal and the list goes on...The War she voted on .

We didn't have a recession until the dems took over. Think about it. And think about how deep that recession is going to become when they withdraw the tax cuts and begin hiking taxes. Happy Days are here again. It took WW II and not FDR's economic sleight of hand to get out of a depression. Don't think we want a WW III.

Surplus was a real name for Americans during Clinton's presidency. Now, deficit replaces that. We need that surplus again by electing Clinton is the only choice with confidence.
For such purpose, we should boo Bush-McCain axis. And, "Obama?" is a big question mark. Is that a matter of experiences, stupid?

The Clinton brain is the one I trust to help us during a recession. Enough of Republican greed and rich corporate interests.
