Gov. Jindal Flattered by V.P. Rumors

April 29, 2008 2:12 AM

ABC News' Kate McCarthy Reports: Gov. Bobby Jindal, R-La., appeared on NBC's "The Tonight Show" with host Jay Leno and said while he is flattered by the rumors Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., could choose him as a running mate, he is happy in Louisiana.

"I've got the job I want," Jindal, the Republican Governor of Louisiana, said. "I told the people of Louisiana this is a historic opportunity to fix our state. I want to be involved in doing that."

At age 36 Jindal is the youngest governor in the United States. A son of immigrants, he is also the nation's first Indian-American governor and would bring diversity to the Republican ticket.

But Jindal told Leno it would be presumptuous to comment on a possible vice presidential nomination.

"It would be like saying I'm not going with that pretty girl to the prom before she asks you," Jindal explained. "I want to be Governor of Louisiana. If they let me, I'd like to run for re-election."

Last week Jindal accompanied McCain on a tour of New Orleans. McCain said he will "rely on Governor Jindal for many, many things in the future," but McCain would not comment on the selection process of a running mate.

Could it be that Gov. Jindal actually means what he says and wants to stay in Louisiana to fix the problems that we have had to suffer year after year due to paltry mismanagement and the unabashed "entitlement culture" lifestyle propatated by the backroom dealers and much political back-scratching?

A good deal of what we suffered in recent years has come at the hands of city, parish, and state government and Gov. Jindal (who had to win the hearts and minds of people who wondered what "tribe" he was from) has truly earned his position. I think he'll stay at least one whole term with us, hopefully two, fix what he can, give us real "hope", and then he will have paid his dues and will be free to go where his aspirations take him; with the blessings of the people of the State of Louisiana.

If he can fix the problems of Louisiana, show the rest of the country-if not the world-that we are all not Brittney Spears, that majority of us have all of our teeth, and that this state has been a vital component of what helps this country to run for many years, he will have earned his stripes and will have a ticket to go wherever he wishes.

Forgive me, I mistyped "propagated". It's early here and I'm not awake yet. There is no preview option for posting here and I didn't catch it till I saw it posted.

They should wonder Karen, because his pastor was his personal spiritual advisor for twenty years. What was he advising? I think we all know.

A pastor is your spirit advisor. A person who guides you through life. Teaches you how to love your neighbor and to forgive their trespasses. A person who have an impact on ones life. A pastor tries to mold you into the image of Christ.

Your baby sitter is a person who performs a service for which she gets paid. Maybe she'll teach your children something. Will it be good or bad? But she will have an effect on your children!

Is the Jay Leno show a good place to get good political info? I don't think so. Next Jay will be doing a skit about the election process. Let Jay Leno be vice president with Obama. He can keep the press busy and off Obama's back.

No. Because when a Republican legislator tried to suggest a bill that would have increased transparency on the Jindal Administration, he balked. He had Jimmy Faircloth (his executive council) make a statement that basically said the legislation would make it possible for the administration to meet in private with businesses wanting to locate to Louisiana. Seems like Jindal wanted to keep his ability to get backroom deals. You know the kind where over $100K is donated via bundling to Jindal reelection campaign and then the state awards a nice grant to that company?

If you look at the real Jindal record, his gold standard is more like Pyrite. Take a little time to do your own research on Jindal and a little less time reading his press releases. You might learn something.

Daniel, no offense but find me a person in office anywhere at any level who has not done anything wrong or offensive to someone. NO SUCH THING! Much of Louisiana could care less if Bobby wants to make backroom deals. Living in a state where the majority of office holders for the past 150 years are just plain outright corrupt gives a different perspective of what corruption really is.

Wow the ignorant comment on Jindal and BinLaden was amzing! Jindal is going to be a power in the Republican party BUT it is too early in his career to be talking of the V.P. position JUST LIKE it is too early for Sen.Obama to be asking to be President as he has too little experience. We usually elect former Governors for the reason that they have had the experience. THC

Jindal is an up-and-comer. Why would he risk a bright future on the mediocre candidacy of McCain? The one caveat to this would be if Clinton gets the nomination or the Dem nomination is not resolved by the time of the convention. While that may be a long time to wait to pick a running mate, McCain would be in no hurry should the nomination fight carry on throughout the summer.

I think Jindal will make an excellent VP for McCain - he would energize all the Asian Americans and get most of Asian American votes.. that would definitely make a difference... and nuetralize the fact that Barrack would get 90% of Black vote !!

Jindal would perform CPR on the McCain candidacy, energize the GOP, and bring crossovers and first-timers into the game for November. The only question is whether Jindal would be willing to leave La. so soon after becoming its new reformist Governor.

While the Clintons drag out their inevitable losing campaign, damaging Obama as they hang around too long, the Republicans would emerge with a new rising star if they settle on Jindal.

the comments of Johnny Boy are indicative of the ignorance of some, who do not know where India is located, confuse Indians with Native Americans! and how on earth id he come to assume that Jindals relatives , who probably hail from the State of Punjab in India would have an inkling where Osama Bin Laden is beats me

Tim: "Daniel, no offense but find me a person in office anywhere at any level who has not done anything wrong or offensive to someone."

Jindal ran on an ethics platform, saying that he wanted an increase in transparency and stronger ethics laws. He had everyone in the media hoodwinked and pulled the wool over many people's eyes. I am merely exposing Jindal's hypocrisy to those who treat his as if he was the second coming.

"Much of Louisiana could care less if Bobby wants to make backroom deals."

Unfortunately, that may be true. See, whenever I bring criticism of Jindal up to a Jindal supporter they will typically say one of two things.

1) "Oh, but he's so smart"
or
2) "You must not want ethics reform if you are against Bobby"

The bottom line is that Jindal claims to have brought meaningful ethics reform to Louisiana but all he did was put lipstick on a pig.

Gotta love when dems use the "he served in the armed services" arguement for the likes of Kerry and now Rev. Wright when the most popular (and only) dem pres of the last 20 years was a draft dodger. Funny how that seems to matter now (at least the air national guard is better than toking your way through Canada). Now we may have Slick Willy's wife against a POW. Let's see how that plays out.

Jindal is no different from any other young ambitious young politician. As a Republican he swayed European American voters with his jingoistic self help, self reliant way to improve society, in other words less government programs, more help to business via less regulations and red tape, blah blah blah blah blah. The old help make one man rich and he might drop some penneys on the way to the bank for poor people to pick up.There is no more cloistered culture than Indian society which fosters Patriarchal and rigid caste like social strata assigned to people based on their birth and social position. This flies in the face of every American value.I witness it in practice when I go to a business owned by Indians or where they work. They smile and bend to European Americans but are grim faced and cold toward American Minority citizens, and don't try to deny it because it's a dirty little secret and true. They are keenly aware who occupies the top rung (caste) of American society.
